dog fish

hi all i've never cought a dog fish so wouldnt have a clue on how to catch them so heres a few questions about them

 

1: can you catch dog fish in shore

2:whens the best time to catch them

3: what sort time (night time, moring etc.)

4: whats the regular size

5: whats the best method

6:whats the best bait

 

all information would be very great

Have caught hundreds from the shore !!

 

Fish hard on the bottom with a big lump of Mackerel on a size 2/3 hook.

 

Mostly caught on night tides around harbours,jetties etc..

 

Can't think why you would want to catch one ... I throw them all back !!!

Favourite bait on south coast is sandeel, night time or after good onshore blow.

Expand that to the Whole of the West Coast of Scotland

 

I've even had them hooked perfectly in the mouth on a 12/0

You will wonder why You asked after the first Thousand !

 

 

But they can save the day will take just about anything but fish/Squid baits seem to be the most consitant.

i hate dogfish but good for removing dead skin as you will find out when you catch your first one ,i prefer pout to dogs anyday

Got 2 from the beach at Budleigh Salterton Devon yesterday, 20 yard out on Squid. When you catch one make sure you hold it with the head and tail or else it will climb up your arm..
