Crap Service.

How is this for crap service.

 

3 weeks ago today the fridge we bought breaks down 8 months after purchase from Comet. We phone them immediately. They cant send anyone out to look for 2 weeks. All the food goes off and we have to buy a second hand fridge to keep essential items such as milk, butter, etc. Two weeks later Comets engineer turns up, a real nice goerdie lad who says the fridge is broken (well we knew that when it stopped keeping things cold). Man says I don't know what to do - Repair or Replace ??? Ill have to talk to comet on Monday. I'll get back in touch. By Wednesday we here nothing. My partner Lisa has to Phone comet to ask what is happening and she is told the man will return on Friday (today) to repair the fridge. By this time I'm well peeved at Comets after sales service and phone to register my displeasure. They make excuses about not having enough repair men but say there is nothing they can do. I told them they should have sent a new fridge the day it broke down. They say its not our policy to replace goods. The phone call ends with me feeling we haven't got anywhere at all.

 

Today repair man comes. Looks at the fridge again and says "I can't fix it" its against company policy to repair this in the customers home and Im not aloud to take it outside - again its against their policy. The man phones his boss who tells him to write off the fridge.

 

Now we have to go online and find a new fridge. We have to place an order and we have to arrange delivery.

 

From the time of the fridge breaking to when we get a new one I estimate will be around a month.

 

I phoned Comet after sales department again to express my displeasure. I ask about what I was told the other day when I phoned about it not being company policy to replace. The lady replies we can either repair or replace within a month and also tells me the company insurance policy that comes with the garuntee only covers frozen foodstuffs and will not pay out for the fridge we had to buy as a replacement.

 

 

The Moral of the story is we should have shopped at Curreys and will do in future.

Company Policy does not affect your Statutary Rights Pay Thirty Quid for a solicitors letter, Claiming Dammages, costs and charging them storage for A fidge that was sold not fit for purpose, I have had more than one run in with comets they have allways backed down when push comes to shove , what ever you do though do not just settle for a new fidge after what they have put you through :thumbs:

Someone once said to me "Dont worry It could be worse." So I didn't, and It was!

we had good service from our fridge seller ,bought in 1974 for £8 and its still going strong! mind you it was only 15 years old then :thumbs:

not exactly A rated but its running costs easily countered by not having to buy a new one every 13 months,turned down to max it will freeze everything in it solid.

our freezer caught fire on getting it out of storage so we went looking for a new one ,not one had the same internal space in the same footprint as the old one ,they call it energy saving but in reality its thick walls and puny motors which probably couldnt freeze anything in ours,i fixed the old one for £13 :rolleyes:

Ha, Comet, absolute crap...I'm just waiting on the collection of my second gubbed TV....they have already changed the dish washer we bought, it lasted 4 washes..... AND the cordless phones !!!! they lasted a matter of weeks...

 

We spent an absolute fortune there last Xmas...and have had nothing but problems with EVERYTHING we bought from them !!!!!

I will never go back to COMET again !!!! I asked the manager if they specialised in selling 2nds..... :blink: :blink: I'm convinced they do !!!!

If its Comets policy not to repair the fridge then they will have to replace the goods. I find telephoning the 'service' line a total waste of time, better to go to the branch you purchased the 'fridge and get the manager to replace the fridge from stock. He / she can do it, they do not like complaining customers on their premises, so don't back down.

It is quite unreasonable of them to act this way with such an important item as a 'fridge. Push for compensation as well, perhaps a new LCD T V for the bedroom might help? If that does not work contact trading standards, you have got a strong case, but these take time to resolve. Keep all receipts, list all spoiled food, and claim for all out of pocket expenses. Good luck!!

contact trading standards glenn......i had simlar problems years ago.they backed down after they realized that i was prepared to go to small claims etc against them......and never shop there again! good luck dave :thumbs:

I no longer use them as a result of the decrepit service when we bought a new fridge.

 

The first fridge they tried to deliver, a week late, had a huge dent in the front door. I refused delivery.

 

The delivery man threatened to leave it it my front garden. I told him, in not very diplomatic language, that I would phone the local Scallys. It would shortly disappear and would be on his head. I had not signed for it. He left with the fridge and his lip trembling.

 

Next fridge arrived and was signed for. Being a large American type fridge with the ice maker and water disspenser it needed plumbed in. Lo and behold none of the ice making facilities worked.

 

To cut a long story short, many visits and 3 months later I finally recieved the fridge I ordered.

 

Oh by the way did I mention that Comet wanted me to pay the delivery charges for all 3 fridges!

 

I will never buy from them again and tell anyone who asks what a lousey service they provide after they get your money.

I ordered a stainless fridge / freezer from them, delivered when promised and left outside the house at my request. The delivery driver went back to the wagon I presumed to get the paperwork, wrong, he jumped in and drove off.

 

I unpacked it immediately and found 3 dents in the doors. Phoned Comet to be told to ring Smeg direct to organise the repair. I refused as it is their problem to rectify, my contract being with them and not Smeg. To cut a long story short after speaking to the manager who insisted I had to ring Smeg direct I put the fridge freezer on the trailer and went to Comet. Backed up to their doors and threw the fridge/ freezer off in their entrance completely blocking it.

 

I got my money back.

at least mine is what it says on the door ,prestcold ! its prest steel and it gets cold ,

perhaps yours was designed for fertility clinics :D;)

I seriously suggest avoiding COMET, it's their delivery policy and their delivery drivers that are the problem. The delivery driver's concerns are apparently more important than the customer's. But if you really want to see aftersales 'service' at its most hysterical, try buying (or renting) a brand new house.
