Russ Evans, the tackle shop manager at Bury Hill Fisheries, has written an article on perch fishing one of their lakes. No idea of how much value it is to the more experienced anglers here, or how relevant to other waters it is, but I found it very interesting.

Very good. Yet another approach to perch fishing.

That was an interesting read, thanks.

It reminded me of an old clay pit I used to fish in Norfolk. That was like a commercial in that it was stuffed with stunted roach and rudd and perch were the only predator. We never caught any perch in the summer because something else always beat them to the bait but in the depths of winter we used to catch them on pole fished red maggot. We had lots of 2s with a biggest of 2lb 12oz. I never tried any other baits - I wish I could have another go!

Incidentally, this was a very deep pit, albeit small (about an acre). A pole meant we could fish a slowly sinking bait in the deep margins.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

Ive only ever targeted big perch on two commercials. Both very coloured in fact one that permenantly coloured that both the carp and perch were very pale.

Strange thing is that on the most coloured I had far more results on lives rather than deads! Couldnt catch on deads at all but could on lives, worms and occaisionaly by accident (whilst bait fishing) on maggots. In fact the other one (incidently Steve had several good fish from this water) was "clear" in comparrison and both of us have done well on deads there.

Im not going to add anymore as Steves excellent articles on this site sum it up other than the strange example I gave.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!
