Over the years, eight or ten a year; that one in the aptly-titled photo being the biggest, at 20+ pounds. It was caught east of the Dogger Bank, in the Clay Deep - about 134 miles ENE of Whitby.

Its like anything else, some times nature plays some cruel tricks, I currently have a 40mm goldfish which was born without a tail, strangely it is bigger than the rest of the youngsters, maybe due to all the extra exercise it gets,

I've had a couple of deformed golden orfe in my pond. One just had some genetic problem that kinked its spine into a "Z" shape. The other was my fault I'm afraid. I'd dropped a small piece of garden netting in the pond and it had somehow managed to get it over its head and trapped behind its gills. I didn't notice for a couple of years, by which time it had grown much bigger than the mesh would allow. I cut it off but it never did grow back to its proper shape. It lived for another ten years, packing on as much weight as the rest, so, like that big cod, serious deformity doesn't seem to disadvantage fish as much as you'd think.
