Do yourself a forum search looking for sideplaners. They're an interesting way of fishing canals in winter when the water starts to clear.

Even if the method really isn'y for you, they are a usefull fishfinding toll.

TT,

What is it you really wish to know, from rods and reels, line, end tackle bait etc. or just somewhere to fish. could you be a little more clearer

Just for a start try www.pacgb.co.uk might help a little. On the top line have a good look at fishing tips and about pike. One thing I will tell you DO NOT go alone. Go with someone who knows how to handle pike. Pike have hundreds of very sharp teeth and are aggressive, they WILL bite you which are covered in anti coagulants (your blood will not clot and you will bleed , A LOT) they also have sharp and delicate gill rakers. You will need several items of specialist tackle. Do not be put off by this post but do not go in with your eyes shut.

A good book is the ' Fox Guide To Modern Pike Fishing' it will tell you an awfull lot and has very good photos

Any info you want to know just ask on here

Well intended Im sure but come on no one is going to bother to take the good advice you give if you include rubbish like this.

Yep, not aggresive in the slightest when out of the water, will not bite you or even be able to if handled correctly

Good link to pacb, definately worth a look if your planning on going.

Would use smallish lures/soft plastics on canals and stay mobile

Neil,

Thanks for the correction, reading back my post it is slightly misleading(i really should read them before i press enter :D ) with TT being a novice angler (not that I consider myself an expert) I was just trying to give some basic info, I'm slapping my wrist as I type :D

Just one big fish, PLEASE!!!!!!

I'm not knocking the bit about anti-coagulants because I heard that bloke on Predators mention it but do they really? I've looked good and hard on the net for evidence on anti-coagulants and I just don't believe it. Why would a strike predator with a mouth like a barbed-wire fence need something as pointless as an anti-coagulant? Why would they have saliva more to the point? Unless someone can show me the evidence and I mean proper evidence, I remain somewhat dubious about that piece of information.

Believe it!!!!!! I bled for about an hour after getting nipped by just one tooth while unhooking a 9 pounder at Wierwood Reservoir. If you've never unhooked a pike before then go with someone who knows what they're doing. Strongly suggest you use barbless hooks. This link might help http://www.pacgb.co.uk/video/piking90s.htm
