Anderoo,

Just curious, is the American system not compatible with what you want? Is the term "lipo" common for a lithium polymer battery. These guide services are in their boats 12 - 15 hrs a day. The entire packet weighs maybe 2 lbs.

Was my answer not helpful or germane to your question. Fish finders are a dime a dozen and NO ONE uses a heavy old lead acid battery.

Anderoo, Rusty

That's no fun - a calculator.

In the manual of your fishfinder you can find how much mAh your device needs per hour although who ever reads a manual.

The "standard is a 2200mAH "lipo" battery. About 8 bucks in the US. ( www.hobbyking.com ). Although most guides carry 4.

Thanks Phone, I had missed that - these are new to me. So these are what the US guys use to power DI fishfinders?

Conclusion is right, I think, units are wrong :)

At pharmacy school I remember a character by name of Blundell, who really struggled with analytical chemistry. We had (amongst other things) to complete a complicated volumetric analysis against a tight time schedule. Our instructor was a bow-tied dry-humoured Scot, one William Tatum, whose favorite phrase was "I want your volumetric results, I don't want any excuses" by which he meant you either submitted a result for assessment or you kept quiet and scored a "fail". Excuses - he had heard them all before.

Anyway, for once, Blundell had completed a volumetric analysis within the allotted time, and eagerly awaited William's judgment.

"Well, Mr Blundell, your figure is a bit on the low side.............................and your units are wrong,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and you have the decimal point in the wrong place. Apart from that, its pretty good!"

Ha ha!

I've taken the easy way out for now. The box that houses the battery is actually big enough for 3 side by side, so that's what I've done. Swapping the power lead to a fresh battery is then easy.

The trouble with the bigger capacity battery is that they're too tall for the box.
