Fishing on a motorcycle

Recommended Posts

Well, not strictly fishing on a motorcycle, but does anybody use a bike to get to their venue? I qauite fancy the idea of combining a couple of passions but so far haven't been able to figure out safe and robust ways of carrying landing nets and longer rods.

when i was a kid a bloke used to fish where we fished and he used to turn up on hes motorbike with hes efgeeco box over one shoulder and hes rod bag over the other! being a biker myself i certainly would not advise that from a safety point of view (could end up in a right ol tangle  ) plus i dont think the police would be to impressed these days. I think the way to do it would be a decent rucksack and\or side panniers and telescopic rods and net poles. That is about the only way i reckon you could do it safely. hope this helps you a bit.

Fishing, the only rule is that there is no rule!

Other than a bike trailer or side car i'm not sure there is a 'safe' method for carrying tackle on a bike but maybe some pannier equipment could be modified or adapted for the task?

I used to use my bike to go fishing often a few (more than a few!) years ago - my bike had a small luggage carrier on the back. (Just a normal tubular, chromed steel type carrier)

I used to rest the holdall on the lh rear foot peg & secure it to the carrier with a couple of bungee straps, then 4 more bungee straps to secure it to the foot peg - 2 go through the bottom of the holdall strap & around the peg, to hold it down, & 2 more used in a figure of 8 fashion to fix it solidly to the foot peg.

Small rucksack & folding seat bungeed onto the platform of the carrier

The furthest I went using this method was a 400+ mile round trip, from to Yorkshire from Essex - no problems at all, it does catch the wind a bit tho.

Cheers

I've got a GSX-R 1000 sat in the garage. Don't really fancy slinging a holdall over that!

Don't think my two hobbies are gonna mix somehow. :wheelchair:

Mine's a ZRX1200. But you're right, I can't see a way the two hobbie scan mix. It's a shame. Would be great to combine a great ride with a great fishing trip.
