Medium Boat Reel ?

Ken Davison South Wales

Recommended Posts

Looking to purchase a good boat reel size wise similar to the ABU 6500, require a level wind and possibly line out, handy when having a cuppa :D

I don't want anything to bulky as it is for my 8' 10 to 20lb Maxximus SC and I am hoping to be holding it for a good few hours whilst drifting so weight is important.

I fish, I catches a few, I lose a few, BUT I enjoys. Anglers Trust PM

Ken,

For my money it would have to be a Penn 975 LD (220 quid)...not cheep...but then quality isn't cheep.

I just bought a shimano charter speciel at the other end of the price scale while I wait to see what santa brings. It works fine but the drag seems to be all or nothing when compared with the 975.

OKuma....leave em in the shop.

Cheers

Dave

:clap2: I'm pleased to hear that Norrie because I've got 2 of them. One brand new still in the box and the other used occasionally for pollock and smoothhounds, super reel loaded with 16lb braid. Can I retire on them? :clap2:

SL20SH. £59 from Alderney Angling, silky smooth drag, plenty of capacity and great reliability. If you must have a leverdrag then don't get an ABU 6600LD, either get the TLD5, or possibly the Penn 975LD, although I don't know what the drag's like on that.

Funny this should come up Ken

Was in my local tackle shop today looking for exactly the same type of reel and guess what I bought; yep an Abu 6501 C3

I already have one so know what they're like but that one lives permantly on my lure rod so now I have another to live on my light line set up

I did try a number of other makes and models on the rod itself but they were all right handed and they just did'nt feel right
