Wingham Fish-In 2008

I can never understand why the Fish-In is always undersubscribed either.

Is it the distance?

Are members put off because it's not as easy as the waters they're used to?

Any ideas? :g:

Is it because it often falls on Cup Final Day?

Would this put you footie fans off?

Rob - while age 2 mos is a bit young to start fishing, even by my standards, it is a fine age to begin camping.

Get a 3 person shelter and bring them along.

The Old Fellas right Rob (er as he often is) They love the camping bit at that age! Its a real good starter to get them into the idea of going fishing. At that young age both my Grandson and youngest Daughter were far more easily occupied whilst on the bank than they are now!

Just tie a bit of rope round them!

As for needing a bigger bivvy at that age they take up less room than my dog! Charlotte was once asked where she most liked living and sleeping and told her teachers the most marvelous home in the world was Daddy's "fishing house"! When asked where the "fishing house" was she really confused them by saying "by the side of the lake of course!","which one?", "all of them!"

LOl, believe me fellas nothing would give me greater pleasure but I think I've got a better chance of winning the lottery than persuading Stacy to come camping with the little one when he/she is only a couple of months old.

Only if Liverpool were playing!

What about if Steve gave Richard Capper a lifetime ban? :P

As for football etc., Richard almost didn't go last year because he had tickets to watch the cricket at Lords. If there's a choice, go to Wingham!

(In case you missed it, Richard - who'd never even seen the lake before - emptied it in style B) If it had been reported to the weeklies, possibly one of the catches of the season?)

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

Most definately! and probably up there with the catchs of all time!

Trouble is though I suppose that we all sit around chatting about 15lb bream,3lb perch and 8lb tench as if they are every day catchs! at Wingham catchs like this can be made but they are definately special and not to be so easily dissmissed.

Ive fallen for this my self at Wingham.Steve remember when we were all sat around comiserating with me as "all" I had managed to land was a 3lb 4ozs perch? When I first slid my current PB bream over the net myself and Andrew (both seen plenty of doubles) were bitterly dissapointed as it first looked to be "only a low double"! :o 8lb Tench become nusence fish when targeting the bream!

Big fish waters can do this to you but you really need to sit back and realise that these are truely enoumous fish, fish of a life time in fact, and the oportunity to have a go for them seized.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Steve, its been a couple of years since I went to your fish-in, but I'd love to go again. The date seems promising and if I get it onto the calendar early enough, I might manage it this year. Save me a provisional place please.

You meet all kinds of animal on the riverbank.

Unfortunately once again I will be in Cuba; I could only get a mid May trip to where I wanted to go.

I believe Wyknot, Meatball's brother will be going so if Meatball's swim dedication takes place he will be a better person than me to conduct a eulogy.

After a certain age, if you don't wake up aching in every joint, you are probably dead.

Very appropriate, Tony.

Plus an appropriate way to bump the thread to the top of the board. :D

I forgot about that! All my non fishing mates thought I was totally mental not going to watch the cricket to "sit by a lake"

Whilst I remember, don't worry if you're not very mobile. We run a taxi service of tractors/trailers and 4x4s on demand to/from your swim. I also ask on the questionnaire if you'd prefer to be near the entrance.

Budgie, many thanks for the offer. Hopefully you'll be fishing though!

nearly no 4x4 taxi ,blew the engine up :wallbash: , but now glad to say the barbie wagon has got a new engine :clap2:

hope to see you all soon

Sorry you're going to miss Wingham, Tony. Meatballs would have been honoured to have you and Sue there.

However, if it's OK with Steve, I do hope to be there to dish out the bacon sarnies on Saturday morning to welcome everyone and to help Peggy out with the barbeque each lunch time for those that enjoy the social.

See you all there!

Wyeknot.
