is it goes right in then cut off 1/4" off the female end and re-whip all will again be well ,if its a straight spiggot spray it with joint build (or whatever its called) or matt varnish and it will give a bit more use

if you mean 1/2" thats right as the joint wears the gap gets smaller untill both bits meet then its worn out and the rod will rattle when wobbled,make sure you keep the joints sand free otherwise very rapid wearing occurs

if you mean 1 to 2 inches then theres a problem the wrong top may have been supplied as there all slightly different ,my carp rods cannot be assembled with each others tops ones too tight the other to loose ,in olden days when quality counted each section was numbered to ensure the correct parts

Right, seems i may have misjudged the gap, have put the rod together a few times etc and gap stays at 1.5cm which is about 1/2 inch so i take it thats correct and how it should be :) Honestly didnt realise it was not supposed to go right in, thank god there was no sandpaper etc in my tool box earlier! Thanks for the help.
