its a jewish dish my ex employees mother used to moan about it not being stocked in sainsbury farnham ,her son now a buddist looked at her with new found horror and probably did a few more nam her-engay kyo's for her forgiveness (the "words" is a non buddists representation of the chanting which went on for hours with clangings and other strange doings over a bit of paper in a posh cabinet!) nice enough family though but unusual having a jewish buddist!

the older religeon popped to the fore when he moved back to america and the movers had to tip 8 gallons of petrol into my landy that he had tried to put in the container in 2 jerry cans ;):D

he once invited me to a buddist meet at a house i expect to convert me into the fold ,i went and was surrounded by strangers who implied my life wasent "full" ,i ofcourse went to insult mode (got no problem with others being silly) left early before the meat sarnies and beer appeared and wasent invited back ,he was ok and remarked at the astonishment of the more diehard that i refused their "help" ,i'm ok in believing nothing,i expect i led him to believe i was "interested" but interest is good for business and agreeing with everything the boss says keeps you employed ,i turned up as i said i would thus keeping my end of the bargain

i expect many a nam herengay kyo was said for my poor soul or whatever carries on to the next incarnation in buddism

puts me to mind of his dog a japanese kayeta (or words to that effect)

i was planting a very long hedge of miniture box and each one was carefully lined up with the string and exactly 3" apart ,about 2 thirds of the way along and looked back and saw the damned dog had pulled most out for the bonemeal beneath ,boy was that dog accidentally punished!!!

There's a nice recipe in Mrs Beeton's for gudgeon if anyone would like a go.

Gut the fish and remove gills, dip in egg and breadcrumbs and deep fry. Serve whole, 3-4 per person depending on size.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gefilte_fish

Especially in commercial varieties, traditionalists may prefer gefilte fish with a high content of the more richly (and "fishy") flavored carp, an inexpensive and prolific fresh-water fish ........ However, those who prefer a milder taste, even to the point of blandness, look for preparations high in pike and whitefish, with little or no carp.

Squirrel-shaped Mandarin Fish - often made with a Carp of about 4Lb

yummy!

The Chinese have a proverb for foody stuff, "If it moves - Cook it and Eat it, If it don't move - Just Eat it"

Would you eat sustainably farmed Dolphin or whale - now that's a goody?
