Bloomin heck Gareth I had to think hard there! I was in the Army then and 30 years would have seen me just leaving Aldershot and going to Maidstone. Also saw me starting to get more and more into carping.Yately,Tri Lakes,Holy Bush Lane whilst at the Shot and Johnsons whilst at Maidstone.

Wasted a lot of time carp fishing at Johnsons when in reflection I should have been targeting the Tench. But thats life!

Didnt fish abroad for carp untill the mid 80's though.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

And I was just doing the odd bit of maggot drowning on the local rivers or when we went away camping (to Billing aquadrome). For me carping started about 16 or 17 years ago.... (I'm feeling quite old as well now ! :( )

Read your blog with interest. Coincidently I have just completed on an established carp venue in Brittany. Wondered if you could share some advice on pellet suppliers, fish suppliers etc. Understand if not. www.heatherlakes.com

Cheers

All that time ago I'd just learn to drive and was allowed in pubs so there was a bit of a lull in my fishing activities. 35 years ago I was living in Welling Kent and venues within cycling distance were all I could get to. Danson Park in Welling, The Glade in Sidcup (great for Rudd), Dartford Lakes, Horton Kirby and Footscray Meadows were all within reach.

A little later I manged to blag my way into Darenth Lakes which at that time was owned by Leisure Sport. Hair rigs were new and boilies weren't readily available in tackle shops so you had to make your own. My first night at Darenth under a very makeshift shelter resulted in a 25lb 13oz Mirror called Stumpy (apparently).

I don't live there anymore but often wonder how those lakes are fishing now.

It's never a 'six', let's put it back

30 years ago i was 7 and had just started fishing the wensum for anything that swims and failing to catch just about all of them.Oddly i had this mad urge to fish at such a young age even though none of my family ever fished,i have no idea where i got the urge to angle from.

On another odd note,i fished heather lakes in brittany about 3 years ago as i remember, and gareth who started this post came and filmed us for the angling lines dvd, small internet innit!

it tastes like burning

Thirty years ago I would have been 48 and just coming into contact with Carp for the first time, A load of Carp had gotten into the Grand Union Canal from flooding a bit earlier and I used to fish the Canal from Tring reservoirs to Leighton Buzzard for those Carp
