Hi Matt

never worked on either of them. Used to be a medic in North Sea, also worked in Libya, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Qatar. Last job was medic on board MSV Tharos. I "retired" in 1989. Now I write books and fish!! How bad can that be

I won't mention the golf on this forum!!

Hi Jaffa

Yes it had the MDU (Mobile Dive Unit) Good piece of kit.

We were anchored 300mtrs away from Piper when it blew. Hard to believe its almost 20 years ago.

Who was it who said on here "inside every old man is a young man who wonders what the hell happened" I can relate to that one!

Look forward to meeting everyone on the 9th

Cheers

Dave

I beginning to understand the feeling only too well Dave :)

I'd love to have seen that MDU; I heard about it from a couple of Subsea guys on a dive course and thought they were winding me up at first! :D

After the Piper I heard that some of the Subsea divers were working down on the Pipers spider deck when it happened but managed to escape. I wondered if it was the same blokes.

Anyway, not a cheerful subject for a sports forum!

but I guess its not something that will ever leave you guys that were there.

Looking forward to the trip.

Chris

We used to buy bulk mussel from Joseph Johnstons in Montrose but I think they are out of business now. The skipper should have some or at least have a source of supply

Squid I dont know about

Cheers

What sort of quantity are we talking about here?

The fishmerchants down by the "Smugglers" pub used to sell boxes of squid. Dundee chinese supermarket had large packs of octopus and squid of various sizes.

Pretty sure the harbour Chandlers down at the old Fishermens association has frozen bait.

I usually just get packs of frozen shelled mussell from Anglers Choice up on the Kingsway.

I'l ask around for bulk mussel Matt.

Phone "Anglers Choice" ( as mentioned ) - on the Kingsway 01382 811211 - he does frozen bait - if you phone he may be able to get what you want if it's not in stock.

It might be worth taking some fresh worm if you can dig it .
