Coarse River Fishing In Cornwall

^^ this is what I was thinking, when mulling over the possibility of moving down there. You can fly to Gatwick reasonably cheaply from Newquay, too, so I would still be able to get to the smoke for occasional meetings.

Fails my requirement for living closer to family, but I doubt I would lack for visitors ;)

Count me in Steve!

You need to be in that strip between Padstow, Wadebridge, Bodmin, Lostwithiel, Fowey - that would put you in the best spot to exploit the best of the fishing!

Depends where you draw the borders of the South West - Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire are pretty well supplied. Devon and Cornwall, not a lot!

I think the thing with the remoteness of Cornwall is that people don't imagine that Devon is a particularly large place - it's actually the fourth largest county in England, 25% larger than the next largest (Norfolk), about the same size as Lincolnshire and Cumbria with only North Yorkshire substantially larger. If you're used to holidaying in the Exmouth to Torquay area, it's a bit of a shock to get off the M5 and realise you've still got hours to go.

Sorry, when I quoted the EA guide I should have said the entries for Cornwall. There is plenty of coarse river fishing in Dorset and Somerset.

Cornwall must have the most varied coastline for sea angling in the whole country and as already posted some good game fishing also.

If you really feel the need but don't want commercials there are some good natural and man made Stillwaters. http://coarse.swlakesfishing.co.uk/waters/

In a word "Mullet".

They respond well to trotting tactics and can be found in the lower stretches of almost every river.

The fight wont disappoint and you should be able to find somewhere that will allow you to use bread for bait - maggots will raise eyebrows though.
