Kentish river Stour

My first outing on the river this season at Grove Ferry on the outskirts of Canterbury on the tidal section. Fished from 6am to 10am packed up when the paddleboarders started to arrive, (will they ever go back to work? ).

Ran a stick float through approx 8ft of water on an ebbing tide using maggot and hemp catching a roach nearly every cast, they don't go very big sadly, if you can find one to a pound it's a goodun. I had a few perch, a bonus bream and numerous pike attacks!

Nice one John, looks like you had a good little sesh.

That peg looks like a living room, bit dofferent from the pegs I fish.  Must be nice having a few comforts 😎.

Yep, that's the OAP's peg.😂 I only do comfortable nowadays, the others are suicidal with steep muddy banks.

Many years ago when I was a teenager we had a caravan holiday at Monkton and I used to take the bus to Plucks Gutter every day. It was awesome watching the Ole Boys catching huge roach on hemp with a short piece of Peacock quill.

Plucks still has some better quality roach than Grove Ferry, sadly many of the swims are not so easily accessible.
