Um, Got things wrong last Sunday. Thought I would fish the Medway tide "down" in the morning but did not realise how high the tide had been and therefore the speed of the flow. It was like watching a spate river at full pelt! Turned round and managed a few hours Tenching instead !

Young chap fishing the "Civic" wall had had a 6lb Bass in the night.

I need to find a few more Medway Mullet haunts, I don't expect people to advertise to everyone but if anyone has some advice please feel free to PM me and I will keep any hard learned information to my self. Perhaps a joint trip out in September, I can provide transport.

Andrew, the known Medway spots around Gillinham, Chatham and Rochester are among the most consistent. They are best avoided during school holidays and weekends, though. I wouldn't recommend too much time be spent exploring much upriver of, say, the M2 bridge - lots of mullet in evidence at times (right up as far as Aylesford and beyond), but I'm convinced that most are thinlips. Having exhausted the aforementioned options, it's then down to exploration and identifying likely-looking locations. Most of us hardcore Medway mulleters are still doing just that - we've yet to find mullet heaven, though! Wherever we've tried, it remains hard work.

There are lots of spots in the Medway that just shriek mullet, but unfortunately there is no access to them from the land.

A keen Medway mullet fanatic with just a small boat could open up a whole now load of hotspots between (say) Gillingham and Rochester!

What I fear is the development of the riverside between Chatham and Rochester.

This usually means a tidy up of the actual bank, ie removing all useful fish holding features and sterilising/removing the transitional ecology that supports much of the river life, bringing species up to these reaches to feed.

Tight Lines - leon

(ps had a pugnacious 2lb 12oz fish at near low water from the Civic Centre yesterday whilst fishing with Matt, as the last of the depth retreated from the wall by the steps. Missed a cracking bite from off the old seaweed covered wall just before low tide)
