Recommended Posts

Hi all,

well I have stoped smoking, I think, 25 hours since my last ciggy. Just come out of the aquapuncture and needed a smoke more than when I went in. :(

If anyone offered me a ciggy now I would take it

How long is it before the craving stops.

Hi Alan, Well done son, keep going. It took a few days for the "need" to go away for me, Geoff says the first couple of days are physical then after that it is phsycological. You know it makes sense. If you really get the urge give me a phone and I'll put you off. :D:D

All the best

Cheers you guys, I nearly cracked this evening but thanks to your tips will refrain from visiting my neibour for a fag.

Sonja is sticking with me on this although if she did'nt I could sneak the odd one.

So from 40+ a day to zero, I will never make it :(

Anyone else given up or tried to give up? All tips/help/advice/incentives welcome.

I stopped smoking cigars (5-10 per day), on 7th July 2001.

I had "withdrawal symptoms" for about 6 months.

I would recommend anyone giving up smoking, to do so with the support of their Doctor.

Whether its patches or pills, anything is better than "cold turkey".

Best tip, is to keep reminding yourself, how better you will feel, the money you are saving etc.

Once you have racked up a week or so, its your pride and the fear of failure, that will keep you going.

Don,t expect to lose the craving too quickly.

Whilst I no longer crave a cigar, I couldsmoke one if I wanted to.

The "revulsion" bit hasn,t kicked in even after 18 months+.

The very best of luck, you won,t regret it.

I packed up over 20 years ago, and what I did each morning was think to my self, I have gone 10 (or whatever) days since I last had a cigarette. If I have just one today, I have to go another 10 days before I can say that again. Once you are up to a couple of weeks, there is no way you will give in! It's not easy, but you will feel so much better within a year, it is well worth the effort.

Alan,

Stick with it mate. I gave up about 4 years ago and never looked back. My success? Started going out with an asthmatic, added third person guilt to the equation! The cigs are gone but she's still around so it worked out quite well in the long run.

Best of luck...

Neil.

Hi all,

Still hanging in there, I must admit that breathing seems a bit easier, the cough seems to have gone. At a conservative estimate we should save 1600 quid a year which pays for a holiday.

Should be fishing this weekend and Monday, its been a while.

Tight lines and thanks
