"specialist" rods.....

Phil Adams

Recommended Posts

Im looking to replace a rapidly aging (read: abused) john wilson avon rod with somthing new.

Ive pretty much narrowed my choice down to:

Shimano Antares specialist 1.5lb tc ish

Greys Prodigy barbel 1.5lb tc

Fox specialist

Does anyone here own any of these rods, or have any info regarding how good they are?

Im planning to use the rod for chub, barble, tench, smaller carp etc

Thanks for any help

I have the three piece version of the Greys rod and it is a good bit of kit I'm not too keen on the eyes but then I'm just being picky overall it's a fine bit of kit

Hi Phil Adams, we share the same name, hence my alias of Uncle Fester. I guess your parents weren't so uncool as to give you the middle name of Victor were they? Never thought of using my real name, you've beaten me to it! Back to the question, I use a Fox Barbel plus 2 piece 12foot which has an avon top and a quiver top and I find it excellent and beautifully finished, although I expect all rods in that category are well finished. Nothing I would change on the Fox.

Ive been reading about the Shimano, it seems to be a very nice rod indeed. Those Ray Waltons look very nice, food for thought!
