  1. Oi Trogg, never mind skulking around here worrying the locals - get back to work
  2. Ive fit several of these type units over time and what they're designed to do is reduce the pressure to the system after the valve to the pressure you set it at. However what the seller is saying is that if the inlet pressure is over 6bar it might fail as the pressure might force past the valve, in other words its only guaranteed to work correctly if the inwards pressure is 6 bar or less Most are the same unless you start looking at industrial type valves. Honeywell are a good reliable make though and I'd trust one of them more than a cheap imported ebay special: http://www.screwfix.com/p/honeywell-pressure-reducing-valve-with-gauge-15mm/69396 Turning down your stop cock will not control the presure, only the flow. Ideally what might be better is to fit a pressure reducing valve and an expansion tank into your inlet. This way the valve will control the inlet pressure and the expansion vessel will absorb any pressure spikes after the pressure reducing valve
  3. Why, I thank you kind Sir @Steve Walker, the top kits didn't break as a result of trying to keep the fish out of the tree, as written one broke as a Carp ran towards the bank I was siting on faster than I could ship back the pole and with an 18 rated elastic (not quite bungee cord) the top kit doubled over and reached the limit of it's flex and broke in two places as a result. The second kit broke in similar circumstances as I was parting it from the rest of the pole and the fish that was on tore off at right angles to the top kit. This kit looked as if the bung had pulled up the taper and damaged/stretched the carbon resulting in the section exploding into splinters. The pole was rated for a higher elastic than beng used, which was well balanced with the line in use @vagabond, where did I say that 50% of the tackle being used was left in the fish? I wrote that I lost as many fish as I landed. Any tackle lost was minimal and lost to the sunken branches and roots. At no time did I break off with a fish attached. 'sycophantic' - now there's a word for the word bank lol
  4. @ Viney - Using a rod and line in that situation/peg would have resulted in every fish being lost and perhaps even tethered as you would have had to try to get them out at an angle of 90degrees to the way that they went in, ie across the sunken branches. Using the pole mean't a very short line between the hook and the pole tip - less than 300mm when fishing below the surface, hence very little chance of leaving a fish tethered which would have been a greater risk with a mainline Anyway, we could go on all day debating the ins and outs; my offer however will stand for a long time
  5. Lol @ Elton - but did you catch owt? Just to clarify a few things, the number of fish lost equated to roughly the number that were landed, I can't remember the exact figure to be honest but my finishing weight was 21lb, two of the Carp were over 5lb and amongst the weigh there was also a few pound of silvers including a very nice Chub of approx 2lb I've never pulled for a break in my life knowing there was a fish on the other end and my match/coarse/carp/fly/speci/bleak bashing career stretches out over some forty years With regards to not owning a rod - obviously you've been listening to my missus too much as that is what I tell her everytime she questions my growing collection of them. In fact a few years ago I gave several away to clear some space (for new ones lol) Those that are concerned about my approach to fish handling and welfare in match fishing are more than welcome to join me for a day out at the same fishery or any other for that matter (bring your own tackle though) and I'll ensure that you have an enjoyable day out hopefully with a few fish to boot <~ whoops, don't take that litterally
  6. Just goes to show that people shouldn't judge others by what they read I did have a rod with me but if I had used it the fish will still have swum to the right into the tree and then I would have had to pull towards the bank dragging them through the sunken snags which would have resulted in a few issues re fish welfare. As it was I was pulling them back out the way they went in. Alas some seemed to shed the hook against the sunken branches, or slipped the hook My account was a lighthearted account of a frustrating day, more written for the reader than a full and accurate description of the day's events lol Thanks for the show of support Newt and Philocast Regards Dave aka Red Leader , maggotdrowning.com
  7. Chris, I've just had Trggy dragging me by the hair over here whilst barking some incomprehensible orders at me lol Send me an email with your problem: dave(at)maggotdrowning.com and I'll see if I can help you out Regards, Dave
  8. The problem with Maggotdrowners is that the moderators and myself are too tolerant of people who cannot make up their minds if they want to stay or leave and then watch as they have the audacity to discuss us on another forum It was only on the 24th January this year that 'Enter Sandman' posted the following: As with any forum the topics discussed rely soley on the members, so don't moan and winge to others when there's a lack of topics that interst you - post something yourself on a topic of YOUR chosing, whether here or elsewhere. As a matter of interest, did you post regarding 'venues in Suffolk'? Geesh some folk Dave
  9. Thanks for the hospitality Ladies, Gentlemen and Elton We've retreated back to our little place on the web as there's a turn on tonight with cheap bear and a few bytes Have a prosperous and healthy New Year and tight lines

  12. Hi Phil, I've just had this thread pointed out to me.. As far as I know there's no known issues with the payment processor (Paypal) unless there was a glitch on their server side of things. If your still interested in one, try again and if still unsuccessful, send me an email Regards, Dave Sales@maggotdrowning.com

  14. It looks like we've had a few problems with the registration lately so I've cleared all pending registrations and modified the code a little which should cure the problems <fingers crossed> You'll be met at the gate by Troggy who'll lead you by the hand past the willow tree on the right and over the rickety maple bridge to the member's pool - no live baits allowed any problems let me know and don't forget to put your empties in the bin provided lol Cheers, Dave
  15. Well blow me down with a feather, I didn't expect our issues to be disussed on ANother board For my response to your initial concern Peter, please follow this link: http://www.maggotdrowning.com/forum/topic....901&whichpage=2 Rome wasn't built in a day and webmasters do sleep occasionally lol (admittedly with one eye open ) Regards to all, Dave
  16. "Support the CA?" - as if Peter Seriously the aim of the register is not to tell people what to do, but to bring to their attention matters that concern us where our voices need to be heard. The decision to act then is purely a personal choice. The difference between it and a forum members list is that the register will be mainly of people who want to receive that 'call to arms' and by logging their details have taken the first step in doing something about it. Imagine: An issue arises that is felt that angler's support is required - one email is all that it'll take to call upon numerous actions from those that support it No spam, no newsletters, no chain mails - when the email lands in your inbox, you'll know it's because your voice is required (that's the theory anyway, just need something to put it into practice against now ) Anyone adding it to their website will help build the register as it all feeds the same database
  17. I've just been reading this thread with interest as it's not the first time I've seen debates regarding the CA's link with angling. I'm not a member of the Countryside Alliance, I don't support Fox hunting but I am an avid angler and much as though I would like to say, we as anglers do not have a truly representative voice who will jump to our defence at the drop of a hat. This is where the CA differs. The newsletters I receive from them, press releases, snippets of information, etc, are numerous and they don't delay in jumping into the affray to defend angling or to launch an attack when something that affects our sport hits the news-stands - I can't say I have seen this from any of our other supportive bodies, in fact it takes a virtual sport rocking bomb to prompt some of them to even consider standing above the parapet and voice their opinions, jumping to our defence. They'll always be the argument that the main bodies are not in that position due to lack of funding - how much does it cost to send a letter, an email or make a few phone calls? You don't need fancy offices in order to do so as proven by the posters of this and other sites; it only takes a minute to put the keyboard into action. The CA on the other hand doesn't wait until the proverbial has hit the fan, the dust has settled, and the damage has been done before coming to the conclusion that they should have said something. Like it or lump it they just seem to wade straight in and pack a few punches Yes there may be an alternative agenda in this but when your options are few and far between are they such a bad thing, do we need to stand by and take every battering that comes our way waiting for the 7th calvary to come over the hill to our rescue - it's too late when the damage has been done We at MD's recently started an anglers register 'The UK Angler's Register' as it became titled originated from a similar forum discussion where it was the general concensus that we as anglers needed a register of some kind whereas everyone could be be bought together regardless of which branch of angling they participated in with the common aim of becoming one voice. The aim was not to champion every argument but to use it as a rallying call to all anglers out there should the need arise so that not one, not two, but as many of us as possible could be prompted into sending that email, writing that letter, making the phonecall, should the need arise - that's where the one voice will come into it's own - when we as anglers collectively raise our heads above the parapet and shout out in defence of our sport Until such time arises the CA are the only voice that the media gets to hear on a regular basis regardless of whether or not the majority of anglers agree that they should be our spokespersons (The register is on the lower-left of our homepage if anyone wants to join it or add it to their website) All the best, Dave
  18. It's about time you got speeded up Elton, I can't believe you weren't on BB already For those that aren't in reach of an exchange or haven't as yet fallen into the installation areas/trigger levels, there is an alternative that's being feild tested at the moment - Broadband through your normal electricity cabling. Apparently it is possible to transmit data through the wiring in your house to and from an exchange similar to Cable and this may be the way to solve many connection issues. But this isn't new and has been extensively trialed in Japan at great expense before being shelved so don't get too giddy just yet Dave [ 23. September 2003, 09:51 AM: Message edited by: Webbo ]
  19. Here you go as released from the Countryside Alliance: ________________________________________________________ COUNTRYSIDE ALLIANCE Press Release Release: Immediate Date: 7th August 2003 Saboteurs attempt to disrupt kids angling day The Countryside Alliance's Campaign for Angling has condemned as "malicious and pathetic" the attempted sabotage by animal rights activists of the eighth annual children's angling day at Passies Ponds fishery in West Sussex. The event, organised annually by farmer and fisheries owner Trevor Passmore, in conjunction with the local council's sports development officer and the Environment Agency, introduces complete beginners to the sport. Today's event brought out 100 children, none of who had ever fished before and whose ages ranged from 8-16, to learn about angling and to "have a go". Saboteurs, who had advertised the event on their "Keep on Fighting" website as an "urgent action alert" spent an hour and a half at Mr Passmore's fishery, shouting, letting off sirens, throwing stones in the water and photographing the children taking part until the Police arrived to escort them off the property. Campaign for Angling Director Charles Jardine commented: "That these people are now out "sabbing" children is both malicious and pathetic and that the children involved went on to have a great day shows who possesses the greater maturity. The kids who turned out today had never fished before and could have been put off for life but for Mr Passmore's handling of the situation. Anglers everywhere should be aware that this has happened and must be under no illusions that these "sabs" will come after the angling community just as readily as they will the hunting and shooting community. This is not about animal welfare, but about hatred, and we must guard against it. "It is vital that we all continue, despite episodes like this one, to bring new people into the sport and foster their enthusiasm for angling - I am glad no one has been put off by the actions of these idiots and am even more delighted that, thanks to this event today, several new anglers can now enjoy this wonderful sport". Ends.. For further information call the press office on 0207 840 9220 or 07775 938792 __________________________________________________________ All the best, Dave
  20. Just had this thread pointed out to me, I am running the Intersite Challenge which basically is a mini series at three venues across the country, aiming at the North, Midlands and South. The nature of the challenge is purely to have some fun between the web based fishing sites and to allow members/visitors of each site to fish for 'their' site against others in teams of approx 6 anglers per venue. The teams can consist of different members per location as it would be totally unreasonable to expect just 6 to travel all over :-) We are looking into kicking off the first leg of the mini series sometime in April, the second leg in June/July and the third and final one in August/September. The first venue is looking to be Woodlands at Thirsk and we are aiming to submit teams of 6 (poss 7) for this one. The cost of the series is limited to the cost of the peg for each angler which would be paid by that angler. Once a team is agreed though the booking will be made and the cost will have to be met by that team. If you want to enter 3 teams please let me know asap as we are getting the ball rolling with regards to the first booking. If someone can contact me this week and let me know if ANet wants to enter, I'll hold off confirming the booking for the northern venue until the weekend Cheers, Dave (Dave@maggotdrowning.com)
  21. Latest on Zippy.. Trev is sitting up and talking to (or is that chatting up?) everyone and the nurses. Martin, one of our regulars went to see him today and printed the get well wishes that were posted then took them to the hospital, to say Trev was delighted is an understatement, so on behalf of Trev, via Martin - "Thanks for all get well wishes,, and see you all soon" - Trev I'll try to keep you uptodate as and when, Thanks for all your responses, and Gaffer spend 12p on another text to Elton and let him know Regards, Dave
  22. I'm not sure if you are aware but Trevor Manning known also as Ziptrev on Angler's Net and my site's forum was admitted to hospital on Friday last for an emergency operation as his medical condition has taken a turn for the worse. As I write he is in reasonably good shape considering. He is a popular poster/contributor on both forums albeit more on MD's but has made a lot of friends on both which is the reason I am posting this. There is a thread on my forum that I have asked people to use for sending their best wishes, etc, as I will be printing it off first thing in the morning and mailing it off to him: http://www.maggotdrowning.com/forum/topic....p?TOPIC_ID=2172 If you would like to add to it I am sure he will appreciate it and maybe it will cheer the old fella up a bit. I have set up a 'Guest' account on the forum so that you do not need to register as this is not the intention of this post. If you wish to use this account please email me and I will mail you back with the password Regards and best wishes, Dave Webster email: Dave@maggotdrowning.com [ 22.
