  1. Two TV's dumped in the Middle Level shallows where we'll be, and rubbish emptied in the car park...nice. Who does one call to get it sorted?
  2. Many people think our laws are decided by government, but more usually they are requested by the people, and enacted by government. Take the using a mobile phone whilst driving law, not needed because other laws cover dangerous driving and one can use a phone whilst driving safely (e.g. crawling in traffic jam); law bought in to appease the people. Photographs of fully clothed children in non-provocative poses being classed as pornographic; law bought in to appease the people. Current age of consent; law bought in to appease the people. Hangun ban; law bought in to appease the people. Need I go on? I think we should raise the age of consent to at least 30, and then only after males passing a test proving they don't feel the need to fill every available hole. Driving, age is fine, but driving test should be a lot harder.
  3. I've never understood why we are awarding people who, let's face it, work in the lower echelons of society...i.e. 'entertainers'. Hardly something to be celebrated I think. Why not award people that do an honest days work and actually earn their pay instead?
  4. I like to take the big picture, so for me the essentials in life are: roof over my head sufficient food and drink my health including peace of mind Anything over and above that is a luxury.
  5. I'm going to agree with KB on this one. In the UK, based on the broad (I think) sections of society I have mixed with over the years, I would say that's it's almost certain that the majority of fathers couldn't care less what their kids are doing. It also applies (again, in my experience) to a significant percentage of mothers too.
  6. Close call, glad to hear it turned out OK. I've had a similar close call with not checking tide times and heights and visiting exposed wrecks on beaches...beaches with known water covered man-swallowing deep soft sand holes (they have a fancy name I've forgotten), and with my partner and her 7 yo son too. I'm no stranger then to that feeling of mild panic turning to unbridled fear, and the eventually disgust at one's own stupidity (particularly as I'm normally so careful about safety related issues). Still, they do say that the best lessons are those learnt by experience.
  7. Happening for me too, but only on some posts. A rogue bit of scripting probably, though Elton might be able to increase the memory limit temporarily to get round it.
  8. In the big scheme of things, it was only raised from 12 to 16 relatively recently, and only then because of the hoards of 12 year old call girls frequenting the streets of London.

The printer is reminiscent of something I saw on Tomorrow's World many years ago. They shone a light (laser?) on a liquid (plastic?) in a tank which caused the liquid to solidify. There were able to construct complex 3D objects including a sphere trapped in a cage using this method.
  10. I've never caught pike or zander, think I could unhook without a problem having read up on the subject no end, but having a helping hand/guiding eye wouldn't go amiss. Particularly keen to get my hands on Budgies dead one (excuse me?) so that I can practice my gill raker avoidance technique.
  11. Lead is fine for weights of 1oz and over are they not? Does anyone actually cast anything smaller? And I hope antinomy isn't banned, all my weights have it in as the lead I sourced does too!
  12. I'm a Pike teach-in Defo too Anderoo. You still bringing a dead Pike for tuition Budgie? So looking forward to this, it'll be the first time I've ever fished with more experienced anglers...I'll put my L plates on! Drove past the Cut Off this evening, the lower banks all gone, water level about 6ft over that at a rough guess! Tried to drive through Welney Wash, but that was 3ft over the road! I've not quite got the hang of fen levels, as Middle Level looked about normal though. Weather a lot warmer up in Norfolk than it is down here which is nice!
  13. Whilst we're pushing the bounds of good taste... Say what you like about paedophiles, at least they drive slowly past schools!
  14. The shooting fraternity are a good source of new or used lead casting paraphernalia; many cast their own lead bullets.
  15. Looking at her makes me think we should ban alcohol. Poor lad.
  16. Thanks for the link Elton. I'm wondering, if someone can be barred because their 'views offend', will that apply to Tony Blair, or George Shrub (small Bush), next time they try to enter or re-enter the UK? I'm not sure exactly what percentage of the UK population finds Geert Wilders offensive, but I'm willing to bet that it's not quite as many as find Blair & Shrub offensive.
  17. Cow's urine...we already have that no? It's called lager.
  18. If you like turning your knives into saws, the range of Chantry sharpeners by Taylor's Eye Witness are OK. They'd be perfect were it not for the fact they leave a micro saw finish on the cutting edge.
  19. You can't post photos like Elton without a full explanation, it's the law you know.

Wow, with 9 years data and research, that's going to the daddy of all reviews...can't wait. Mind you which ever one Steve recommends, the owners will probably retire a short while later.
  21. Good point Chesters, plus they can carry offensive weapons (baton), firearms, assault people, wear clothing that you or I would be arrested for wearing, they can hold people against their will... It's just not right eh? I'm no great fan of the Police Service at all, but I think common sense has to prevail here.
  22. Or maybe is was some kind of Freudian slip?
  23. I have no issue with appropriately licenced and qualified drivers (Police or not) driving at very high speed if they consider it to be safe and relevant to the prevailing conditions. So 200mph on a stretch of deserted M40 with prefect visibility in a straight line not problem. But this Policeman made that judgement call, and got it very wrong. He should be banned from holding a licence for life (as should anyone else that takes that decision and gets it wrong). That's what would happen to a pilot. Were it an unexpected patch of oil, and no other vehicle or person was involved, I'll let him off scot free.
  24. Oh well found! Interesting that it's not a total solution, and they still need a starter motor some of the time. I imagine the first market will be in hybrids, does anyone else switch of the engine at the lights as mentioned?
