  1. Camping?...electronic ignition?...something not right there! What ever happened to rubbing two Girl Guides together (wasn't it?) to make heat?
  2. Going off at a slight tangent, my late (as of late last year) uncle trained with Bomber Command at RAF Waterbeach before coming a Lancaster Flight Engineer. He completed one less mission than a full tour (end of European war), and his regular aircraft one less mission than 100.
  3. Surely it's in the lakes owners best interests to ensure all anglers are licensed? What kind of angler would an owner prefer, one who doesn't abide by the rules, or one that does?
  4. I'm always very suprised that the industry hasn't, for it's own good (positive PR and suchlike), introduced licence checking at commercial venues. I understand that they feel A. it isn't their job B. attendance figures may fall, but is that really a responsible stance on the issue?
  5. You think? As beautiful as Marsh Farm is, and as pleasant and helpful the staff are (A+++), I can't help but think the have their own wind machine! Regardless of the weather elsewhere in the area, every time I've been to Marsh Farm it's been blustery!
  6. That's OK Budgie, I blank so often that fish holding ability is right down on my list of requirements for line!
  7. Look forward to your findings. I use Powerline currently, and was just about to order some more sizes, but I'll hold off until you publish your comprehensive fully illustrated 4-page shoot-out results Budgie.
  8. No hinge required Rich, just a sheet of appropriate thickness platicard (from modelling outlet) say two inches wide and then however long your 'chain' needs to be. The plastic card can flex up and down when mounted, but won't move much side to side, and being only (e.g.) 0.5mm thick won't present much of a face to a side-wind anyway. Just an idea. Check it out with thin card first (cereal packet type card). I could be talking rubbish.
  9. The ultimate bobbin 'chain' is of course linked at molecular level...think ribbon cable but instead a strip of plasticard of suitable thickness.
  10. I have lots in the freezer (can't stand to waste maggots), but I've heard they have a tendency to float once thawed, so need sorting before use?
  11. I think ANOVA is a bit old hat now, most users have switched to ACORSA I believe.
  12. You jammy bars Oh well done!
  13. You have to be careful where you source them from due to cost, but Lego Technics and other similar construction sets use plastic chain.
  14. I've got a cheap copy of that second design you linked to Anderoo, but the rear legs (unless locked by pins, or when they fall out nuts and bolts) have a tendency to fold in if one isn't careful. How does the original design get round this?
  15. I would have waited 6 months before posting this story, you probably got caught on speed camera too!

    Big bream

I can never remember which knot I use, I'll have to look...yup, palomar. In fact I think I now only use four knots: Palomar: line to eyes Knotless: line to some hooks (hair, middle treble etc.) 4-turn waterknot: Powergum stop knots, joining lines (paternoster etc.) Overhand knot: Loop making

Interesting. I actually got the size 14 idea from Martin Bowlers video with the inline feeder conversion for tench, but I guess hook-wise the larger the better as long as it doesn't reduce bites from the target species.

My previous notes on the subject with regards to braid show tangling as the only negative, any special knots required? Also, is a large hook mandatory? Would you not still match hook size to bait, so say a 14 for sweetcorn? Or does the fact that the bait will be hair-rigged change that old guideline? I actually had an idea for a new swimfeeder, I was going to call it the Trojan Feeder, maggot feeder on a flat method feeder...but it's almost been done (maggot feeder in the middle of a method feeder, Fox Maggot Method Feeder).
  19. Surely the point is that one person taking one eel for the pot may well be fine, but when you add all the other 'one person's together, that's a lot of eels, and eels are currently on the 'threatened (critically endangered)' conservation status. There is only one more conservation status before extinct!

That's what I wondered, especially with the reduced elasticity of typical low-diameter monos. However, if using a plain old mono mainline (in my case Sensor), then wouldn't the give in that compensate enough?
  21. I sympathise, the main commercial I fish has tackle busting carp in even the smallest lake, once they've found your swim you've had it. Some argue that it adds to the fun, trying to fish for (e.g) bream without attracting the carp. I just think it guarantees lots of carp swimming round trailing hooklengths. Marsh Farm have the right idea I think, they have a carp free lake (Crucians allowed), and if any are caught they are removed to another lake on the complex.
  22. Dare I say...(checks to see he's not being monitored)...accountants! You have a boat, you can afford to pay a fine! Bloke on bank, esp. if looking of foreign origin, might well be out of work...not worth spending the money to chase someone that can't pay. Not saying it's right, but that is how they work, even the Police work to a similar principle, fine those most likely to pay up.

Hmm, interesting, thanks for that Budgie. Even though I'm moving further away form Wingham soon, so unfortunately no point in me putting my name down for membership, still nice to keep up with SB techniques on the remote off-chance I get to an AN Fish-In there. Plus it's all good thought provoking stuff that comes in useful in other areas of angling.
