  1. I don't drink tap water (or any other water) but I drink both tea and coffee made from it. Would it not be simpler to just boil it and bottle it?
  2. A record breaking year for the *Death List*, 17 out of 50 gone. There's a couple of other centenarian coffin dodgers on there, Olivia de Havilland 101 and Herman Wouk 102. https://deathlist.net//
  3. Me too, if I'm in the inside lane going faster than some twit in the middle lane I just go on past. I used to go around the outside and make a point of going back to the inside but I just can't be arsed these days. I think the situation has improved a little since this was publicised a while back (it's not that new), but it still goes on far too much. Undertaking is not illegal, but you have to be careful how you do it, don't be in the outside lane and move to the middle lane to pass another vehicle in the outside lane, that is definitely illegal.

I had to do a bit of googling to learn something about fractals. I get the general idea, but I don't see how it explains the formation of this pattern. Fractals in plants I can understand, snowflakes too, but I'm seeing some representations of fractals (google images) that make no sense to me, a bit like my pic I suppose.

I really don't know how it's occurred Phone, I've had a couple of thoughts on it, but I've not even convinced myself yet. It wasn't very thick at all, less than a half inch, probably only a quarter inch at most.

There won't be any snow here this Xmas, so here's some strange ice from a couple of weeks back. From the pic of the approach shot, it almost looks like the water was welling up and then freezing, but it didn't look like that at the time, the surface was pretty flat, just like any other frozen puddle.
  7. We know you dislike TAT Barry: but even without taking into account today's PC world, they do have a point, it's quite blatantly racist. If the fishery has a problem with fish theft there must a be a better way of dealing with it. Landlords can no longer put signs in their windows saying "No Blacks or Irish", this is no different.
  8. Dippy: the famous I. o W. Humboldt Penguin. http://www.iwcp.co.uk/news/news/Dippy-the-famous-Isle-of-Wight-penguin-dies-317539.aspx
  9. A galley kitchen is the style/layout, whether small or large, (but usually relatively small): cupboards and worktops etc. just along two opposite sides with space to walk in between. At a guess it's the same design as on a boat (but I've never been in a boat kitchen).
  10. Was customers is now punters Was customers is now custards
  11. I've experienced that here thanks Chesters, It was probably about 1959, my parents left my sister and I on the beach at Westward Ho and pushed off elsewhere for a few hours. The back of the beach was huge pebbles the size of dinner plates, by midday the tide was in and the pebbles were the only place you could be and you couldn't stand on them for very long. I don't remember how we got through it as it was too long ago and I was only 9, but I've never forgotten it, all I remember is hopping from one foot to another, (no shoes).
  12. I've always heard it attributed to Norfolk; and it's correct. When the wind comes in from the East there it really does go through you.
  13. This afternoon, near Burley, New Forest. No snow in that sky.
  14. I've got a mute button on my remote for when the ads come on - and a timer in my head to know when the five minutes is up. I can do all sorts of stuff in those breaks. I don't have a problem with making contributions to charity but I won't sign up for a direct debit to do it - we get far too many of those calling round. ..........as for those bags that come through the letter box, if some-one were to put one through that didn't say "No bric-a-brac" they'd probably make a killing. My old clothes get used for rag, it's usually all they're fit for when I've finished with them.
  15. ....I'd settle for the Sir Geoff mentality. There's too much one day rubbish cricket played, 40 or 50 over games are bad enough, but a 20 over slog is always going to be nothing but a slog, and it gets into their psyche.
  16. I don't follow cricket as closely as I used to, but at one time I used to go to both Lords and The Oval to watch Test matches. One thing I don't understand is where Alastair Cook has got all his test runs from, whenever we need runs from him he gets out cheaply, he's definitely been worse than useless so far in this tour. I don't see us saving this one, but there's a couple of useful run scorers still to come, so you never know.
  17. I'm still here, but you already knew that. I'm happy enough to have "internet friends", I don't want (or need) to go fishing with you all, not my cup of tea at all, but I'll wish you well and follow your exploits with interest if it happens. I think I've noticed a slight increase in some returning members posting in the last few months. I fully agree that the Brexit topic is going nowhere and is overwhelmingly boring and repetitious, I often don't look at it for several days and then just check out the most recent couple of posts, not even sure why I do that to be honest.

    Its ?

......and just for some balance............. what do you call the fatty bit around the vagina? The woman.
  19. I sent one off a few days ago for the wife's Blue Badge: was wondering at the time when I'd last used one, so checking the stubs, it was the wife's Blue Badge three years earlier. I could have paid on-line when I applied but I thought I'd remembered paying for it when I picked it up at the Town Hall, but I must have been mistaken, (I may not even have had to pick it up) I'll pay on-line next time.
  20. I'm not interested in videos with music.

  22. As Steve says , the maths is easy, but the practical side doesn't work exactly as you want. Once you have your set up worked out, try using an open ended feeder filled with small polystyrene balls cast to the spot and see where they arrive on the surface. There may be some sort of current/undertow to allow for, (you can check the extent of that with a float set-up) but it should help put you closer to where you want to be.

    Salami

One day later for me, I'll make a note to stock up on cash, it costs me a small fortune in cheese etc.

    Salami

Thanks for the offer Cory, I'll decline for now as I'm sorted for the moment, (and we usually get a visiting French Market in town a couple of times a year when I can stock up a bit) but I'll keep it in mind if I ever get desperate. I'll be interested to hear how you get on if you do have a go at making some.
