  1. Back to killing invertebrates....I do tend to be rather accepting of some that are not ordinarily regarded as pleasant (my job I suppose) but I do have one little affectivity...I kill Pholcus phalangioides (Daddy Longlegs spider)...they are not originally native to the UK and have the rather annoying habit of eating our native spiders, even big ones. They are disturbingly common in my house but I manage to keep the numbers down.
  2. I'm cautious about subscribing to the Araneus diadematus theory here, based on the pictures. There are a lot of characters that fit, the long first pair of legs, the banding on the legs and the eye distribution, not obvious from the picture but appears to be : :: : Very hairy and very small though, at that size the spiderlings are usually yellow with black markings! Also the third pair of legs is the shortest....getting closer to A. diadematus......
  3. A couple of corkers, well done!
  4. Most of the time it isn't .....but, last year and this year we've definitely had summer...
  5. I'm so upset I nearly stopped smiling!
  6. The question was presented as an ideological problem which, arguably, is not based on religion but has a political base...certainly the activities of the extremists are not based on any religions that I know about. Until the extremists are prepared to discuss their "problems" with other groups with different ideologies I can see no real option to physical deterrents....which will obviously go on for ever...unless the "peaceful majority" are seen to be more active in "controlling" the extremists that use the name of Islam for their own ends.
  7. How odd! I bought a Laurel and Hardy 4 disc set last month from a local junk set, 15 films (inc shorts) for a fiver!
  8. Horse, you don't know how lucky you were....we only had a badger!
  9. Ssssshhhhhhh! Steve, some bloody politician will link milk bottles and bTB to blue tits and then it'll be a whole new cull!

  11. He'll be out in three and it'll take longer than that to get the money out of him I guess!
  12. I think it may have been a Renault F1 car, I could be wrong but I seem to recall Mick Grant on a works Kwacker racing it on the Island about 30 years ago....bike was "properly whupped"....as Phone would say!
  13. 1275 engine, stage 2 tune, big bore pipe, MG Metro carb, Triumph Dolly single rail box with "J" type overdrive in 3rd and 4th, gas rear shocks, disc front brakes and front anti-roll bar......eventually John

  16. But of course, nettle was commonly used and I still make it occasionally too. Almost any herb can be used as can spices, fruit, bark etc.!
  17. Well, one should argue that we have heavily hopped beer...ale, traditionally doesn't use hops for flavour or preservative reasons....

  21. Most of my work photography (photos I take at work for my own records/interest) has been achieved using a Samsung Galaxy SII. I recently upgraded to an S5, after 2.5 years, they have amazing cameras for such tiny lenses. I hardly ever take my DSLR out now unless I'm specifically looking to take long shots. These were taken with the SII last year. Chinese Water Deer fawn. Ringed Plover chick. Marbled White. Same again... Common Blue Damselflies in "wheel" position.
