  1. Sounds like a much nicer day than the one i had! One of the gunsmiths at work is polish. Hes here alone and a bit odd, but we talk about fishing a lot and ive taken him out a couple times. Hes a very interesting person, very very clever and good company! Some people at work think hes a bit of a ****, but as long as your decent with him, he is with you and i think thats just how most of them are. He said he would only go fishing with me as iam a good person and good company!
  2. haha i keep imaging this movie style scene of large group of disgruntled anglers marching into the meeting hall while the aged commitee look menacingly over their square spectacles. I am definetly going to go for it, i was going to do something a few years ago but felt i was little young. Im still young-ish, but i feel very strongly about this and today has tipped me. Changes need to made or the club is lost. Huzzah! Peter, i dont like the idea of just walking away. I learnt to fish on these waters and hope my kids will fish them too. But they wont if things dont change. For example, Poynton Pool used to be 9-11ft deep water, but now has 6-7 ft of stinking horrible silt in places. The deepest part anywhere in this 5 acre lake is now only 5ft with parts about 2. There is even a silt trap, they just never empty it!
  3. I might just start walking the banks and asking people how they feel and see if i can get support that way. I know proabably 10 already that definetly will, including a baliff. I do note a bit of skepticism however, do you think this is a nigh on impossible task? If noone does anything, nothing changes! Do you think its a good idea to just go asking people on the bank though?
  4. 40 nesting pairs and their offspring have really damaged the place. its well known the damage they've done, its even been in local news. thanks though...
  5. Is anybody here a member of S&DAF? Are you pished off with the abuse, sorry i mean running, of this long established club? Lets make some noise! After being told today by a baliff that he kills pike and having a talk with a few members on the bank, im wondering, does something need to be done and how do we go about doin it? A few things the S&DAF have done or havent done. Compstall - They let it be decimated by cormorants, and i mean DECIMATED. Then put fish refuges in only to take them out again when the yacht club made an objection. They didnt fight, they just rolled over. Walkers, bird watchers, yachters etc all take priority yet only a small percentage of those pay for the priveledge of being there, unlike every angler. New House Farm - Tony Martin....another baliff and pike enthusiast..and i quote "if you catch one chuck it over that wall onto the train tracks" Nice... Poynton Pool - Where to start....3 ft deep, 6 ft of silt. Cormorants eating everything. Bouys being put in to restrict fishing because of the residents in the million pond houses are worried about ledgering. You need a 4oz beachcaster and hell of a lot of effort to come anywhere near to the houses..... Woodbank - 1000's of fish dead the last few years from oxygenation problems. Another few thousand netted and sold. Not baliffed for a long time. Left to rot really even though its full of decent fish. Thats just a very small portion of what they do/dont do. Points being, this a decent club, with a lack of support or interest from "the commitee". They are ruining and killing this club, and with a little effort, it could be very good again. I noticed in the members card today there are a few empty positions including chairman. I would like some advice from the older members, or anyone in the know really about what you would do, or how i should go about trying to make some change. Also, if there are any S&DAF members here would like to add anything, or support this, please, MAKE SOME NOISE!! Cheers Sean
  6. First had an argument with a baliff, who thought i was carp fishing and when i asked about pike he said he kills em (im gona make a seperate thread about this, i think i want to do something about it). RARRRRRRRRR Watched a Cormarant eat BIG silver fish all day. Got the coldest foot ever when my foot went under. Lost what i think was a pretty decent fish 2 dogs ****ed on my shelter and one ate a whole, but more importantly my last mackerel! Only caught one fish of about 9lb in 9 hours Hey, but at least i was out haha!
  7. you can band it onto a 10/12 but i would recommend you learn to tie a hair, you'll have a much better hook up ratio, you wont have to keep rebanding baits and presentation will be better. Plus, theres lots of baits now, not just for carp fishing, that need to be or are desgined to be hair rigged. Things like pellets, small boilies etc.
  8. MacWet gloves. Go an get a pair now. Ultra thin yet ultra warm and waterproof, PLUS when they get wet they grippy. I can tie hooks wearing the!
  9. Bob makes the best "plop" noises with a microphone. i remember him an john wilson giving a talk once at the masonic hall in stockport, best stand up comedy i ever watched!
  10. go for this Dan http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BRAND-NEW-Ron-Thomps...=item3a5dea3274 honestly id stay away from un branded stuff. probably just chinese made pap, or worse. i have a ron thompson spartan method feeder rod that i bought years ago for abour £40 and its not bad. Well made, nice action, good reel seat and eyes etc. see if anyone comes up with anything better, but i think you'll have fun, an some nice fish with this one.
  11. in the summer, its rods in, bivvy up, table out....rig making til the alarms go haha
  12. nice fish! ive not fished a canal for years or fished for perch for a while, might have to do some soon!
  13. how are you fishing? i'd hair rig a slightly larger piece or 2 smaller pieces on a size 10. had some nice carp on pepperami and some monster tench as well.
  14. good going, some nice fish there as well! had no big bag sessions like that this year, but my best ever session is 1 fish in 48 hours, an english 30, its not always quantity that counts! cant break the frickin 40 mark tho, so off the france next year haha
  15. or a v shaped twig! Personally Cooksta, id go for a bait runner. You can pick up some pretty decent ones quite cheap now so no need to go paying 100's for something. Free spooling, open bail arm etc can be quite "messy" if your new to this style of fishing.
  16. Chub S Plus Shelter. Goes up very quick, very sturdy, waterproof, bigger than most but still very light. Drys quickly! And you can pick them up for around £70. Also, you can get a second skin for it and turn it into a mini bivvy if needs be. I compared this against the Korum, and this won hands down in my mind.
  17. Unfortunatley we only have one of these left, but they are brilliant. I am looking at sourcing more now so we should have some ready for the freezing cold that is coming! First come first served, if anyone wants it call me (sean) on 0161 480 8222. I have one and a peacock (which we also sell) and they work amazingly together. Stick the warmer in it, clip it wound your waist and you have a hand warming oven good to go! http://www.cheshiregunroom.com/store/CLOTH...ggis-Handwarmer
  18. for some reason we dont have em on the website, i'll stick em on today and put the link on here. Ive got one and i dont go without it, or my 2 ft long neck warmer haha
  19. Certain stretches of it yeah, full of em. Lots of good sized trout as well as BIG barbel. I just thought of another that i may concentrate on next year, and thats a river carp!
  20. we sell these, you wana get a haggis (a wooly thing you put your hands in) to put it in. hand warming perfection!
  21. how are these in the wind? ive heard they fold like cheaper hooker who got hit the stomach by a fat guy with sores on his face.
  22. I think thats something to do with microsoft
  23. Nice fish, ive never really targeted perch. Do they fight as hard as they do at that size as they do when their a few oz's? Oh, an this made me laugh "John S ηβπ Species caught in 2010: Ash, beech, birch, elder, elm, gorse, mullberry, oak, rowan, sloe, willow, yew." Ive ad a few of them!
  24. Watch the carp, their addictive! I didnt see a float rod for years!
  25. I **** you not there was a woman in the summer wearing less than this in camo, carping! That was a nice change from the norm haha
