  1. Barbel in muddy ponds too Doesn't look to me like there is a 'best pond'!
  2. Yup caught chub on chilli powder covered spam cubes in a flooded winter river
  3. 5/8/13 I decided the rain we had yesterday should have put a bit of flow and colour into the river (very little as it happened) so I set off for a few hours on the Kennet. Using typical gear for trout catching on the Kennet (quivertip, pellet hookbait and a small pva of small pellet) it wasn't long until the first showed up at around 1.5lb, it did a very good job of behaving like a barbel hugging the bottom for a few seconds then became airborne and started the acrobatics, a second was unfortunately lost at the net of around the same weight. Despite sitting it out until it got dark no more showed up, neither did those pesky barbel
  4. Cheers Matthew, bit of colour was what I was hoping for, although it has just started peeing it down again so who knows what the river will be like when I get there!
  5. Has anyone driven over it today?(we all know you can't help but look at a river when you drive over) If so what is the level and flow like?
  6. I had the same thoughts when I first saw the pic and came across this http://rense.com/general95/airios.htm "When lightning struck the carbon composite test panel it blew a large hole in the panel several feet across, much to the surprise of engineers and scientists. This happened because carbon-composite materials have far electrical higher resistance than aluminum. It is the same property which causes electric heaters and light bulbs to become hot when electricity is applied. It will be the integrity of this material which keeps all such aircraft flying." Possibly the same as what has happened to those rods?
  7. I got one today, well worth the money imo!
  8. https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/specialbuys/sunday-specialbuys-4th-august/product-detail/ps/p/fishing-rod-bag Looks like it would be pretty handy for carrying rods/banksticks/net handles when fishing a peg with bit of a walk
  9. That is bullsh!t, if you bought a vehicle not knowing it is stolen and you get pulled over for whatever reason the vehicle gets siezed and returned to its rightful owner leaving you out of pocket so them saing 'they have no legal powers' is an out and out lie because they are scared of being branded as 'racist'.
  10. Shame we don't have that law round here!
  11. Definitely not Tescos, I despise being dragged round there once a week! Whichever supermarket puts in a bar to leave husbands and boyfriends at while the women do the shopping will get my vote
  12. The bag looks good as a roving bag, may have to invest in one the boilies and dips have got to be worth a try at that price!

    Eel Record

Seems to he plenty of people coming out slating and trying to rubbish the claim already, is this just part and parcel of catching a record (or near record for that matter) fish? See so much of it on various forums and fb whenever someone catches one!
  14. Wotnobivvy- its a Ron Thompson, they don't seem to do it anymore its an older one, very nice rod though and I would rate it as good as my fox warrior rod. Tigger its 1.5lb, I think half the problem was I only had 6lb line on whereas I would normally use 12 on that lake, the rod would have probably held up to more pressure but unfortunately the line didnt
  15. The tip ring and one more have been snapped off so quite a bit, will measure it when I get a chance
  16. One of my lovely in-laws has snapped the end off of one of my carp rods, I don't do enough carping now to replace it but I do enough that its an annoyance not having two for when I fancy sitting it out for an evening with them sat on alarms. My first thought was to just use my maver barbel rod in its place but I hooked what could have only been a carp the other evening while float fishing for tench and perch with it and it just didn't have the power to stop it (the rod was bent double with the tip ring in line with my 'pin). Is there a way to fix a carbon rod or am I just going to have to stump up for a new one? Back to the maver rod, I'm slightly concerned to hook a large barbel in flowing water with it!

    typical....

Session one and a blank managed to miss a few bites and had a few that I struck while the float sailed away but didn't connect with anything? Line bites? Undecided on this evening whether to have another crack at the same lake on the float again or give the kennet a go

    This weekend

So in other words you did some 'pukka' fishing, alarms and sit in the sun with a beer Steve? Can't blame you in this weather!
  23. Only had an hour in the end on Friday evening, blanked! Hastings is nothing like I remember it.... 10 year old me saw it as arcades and being great living by the sea, mid twenties me sees it as a sh*t hole full of druggies, bird crap everywhere, boarded up windows etc. We heard 28 sirens on the sea front in one day, was bit of a shame as its tarnished some childhood memories going back there
