  1. Bacon sarnie with brown sauce or rice pudding with a spoon of cinnamon in. Failing that, Pancakes! With sugar and lemon. Renrag
  2. Good on you mate. Not out Boxing Day but I might get out before the new year sometime if I get my 'kin bathroom finished! For 2012, I plan to get afloat a lot more and really explore the broads with my lures on my inflatable kayak. Still really enthusiastic about lure fishing and just can't get excited about baitfishing, even though it may well be the better option on the day. Luck to everyone who is venturing forth on Boxing Day, think of me having to cope with the family AND staying sober as I'm designated driver... Renrag
  3. I thought that might be the case but I'll give it a go regardless... Then I'll buy something better. Main thing I want to find out is if I can 'deal' with a baitcaster/multi having used mainly FS all my life. I'm sure I'll shortly start a thread like 'I've got a fantastic reel but my rod is naff', or something like that Tbh Budgie, cosmetic condition isn't something I worry about, as long as it's mechanically sound (which you ensure, I know) I'm happy. PM sent. Renrag
  4. Bank as in catch one or reel it in? On the first, you're on! On the second, no, I'll pass Not got a problem with summer deadbaiters, it just seems around here the pikers display all the bad attributes you've described. Personally I think summer Pike may be more prone to 'wolfing' but purely from a metabolic viewpoint. I can't say I've noticed a difference myself. Renrag
  5. They have guns, we don't Easy Targets? I could go on all day Renrag
  6. Make some Dave! Ewww... horrible thought- Davey Beans... Renrag
  7. I think it'd generally work better at the tail end of the season (don't shoot Emma!) on pressured waters but never found any benefit to it myself but only used them once or twice. Didn't catch from what I remember. Coloured or not. Could be more effective if wobbled though? Never tried it mind. Renrag
  8. I'm out tomorrow too Taking my little bro to see if I can win him over with luring. Thankfully he'll be too busy casting to whinge and whine. If he does, he becomes a mudweight... Renrag
  9. I started on singles only, livebaiting with my Dad. I've never known 'owt else. Used snaps and they felt alien and cumbersome to me. Not knocking it too much but I just don't like them and have no trouble hooking most runs on single hooks. No worse than people I've fished next to for sure. Found the circles offered better hookup than straight singles and I've never had to concern myself with deep hooking, except to remove others' traces. I've taken 5 snap traces out this year so far... all 12" traces and all from the same place too. Either the Jacks are super fast or the anglers are super negligent (12" trace, really?)... How fast can a Jack choke down a 12" snap and bait I wonder? Renrag
  10. That'd be very kind of you. What would you have me borrow or buy? Whatcha got? No offence to Wilko 09 but had a grope of the Abu Max range after being told they were rubbish elsewhere and felt that while they were a good enough reel for lighter use, I think they might struggle with repeated use at the top end of my weight range. You wouldn't have an Okuma Citrix that you want rid of would you Budgie? Had a grope of that and for the price, it felt the best the shop had. Renrag
  11. Agree with that Hawk. A carp or even pike deadbait rod is just a tool for chucking out heavy stuff and strong enough to haul in an even heavier fish. End of. No need for finesse. Anyway, I've rarely seen carpists holding their rods barring casting and reeling in so what difference does it make how light they are? Renrag
  12. I've been doing the exact same thing! New bog, bath and sink... Tiling... Painting... just the panelling and flooring to go... Oh, and the grouting... Deepest darkest joy... I remember fishing, its that thing you do with a stick innit? Honestly, try lure fishing. Hardly any kit, pick it up in a moments notice and 'have a quickie'!.. Then go fishing... Perfect for short sessions and good for the wily old Chub too Renrag
  13. Seem to be more than usual on here, now in every other thread I see mutilated handbags and handfuls of hair littered about the place! All good besides that ATS, you good? Renrag
  14. I have an old baitcasting rod that needs a reel. Rod itself is of doubtful use (South Bend Mr Big Fish, circa 2001, 3/4oz to 3oz) but I need a reel to try it out and I'll just replace the rod in due course if I deem it necessary. Recommend me something that'll happily chuck 15-20g up to 100g(ish) all day and won't break the bank. No price limit as yet but I'd like an idea of what you guys and laydeez believe is proven kit before I do any more research. Second-hand is fine, left-hand wind is essential. I have quite small hands if that makes any difference. (They make my Rod look bigger, ok?) Renrag
  15. Soman- Antique (Proof Mix) Rage Against the Machine- Killing in the Name of... Combichrist- Enjoy the Abuse ACDC- TNT ACDC- Big Balls They get me ready for the big family get togethers... In reality there is only one actual Christmas song I like - Fairytale of New York - The Pogues Renrag
  16. The Sakuma hooks are very good too, just choose a size or 2 higher than you usually would. They seem to be small for their stated size. Renrag
  17. I believe he meant EVER. Seriously Phone, it'd make you cringe how many muddy little pools we have over here, not even 1/4 an acre with 20-25 anglers sitting round them midsummer and even around 10 or so midwinter. This link is a puddle close to me that I abhor, it has about 20 or so pegs and is usually packed- http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&su...ved=0CB4Q8gEwAA Its slightly to the left of the 'A' point. Should see it if you zoom in a bit... Renrag
  18. Before I was a stalwart of the rod is just a tool, a lever if you will, believing that as long as a rod was strong enough for the task at hand, it'd do. Now I've started lure fishing I realise I need some measure of quality for the rod to do a decent job on my behalf like transmitting vibrations and making the lure dance for me like I want. Same was with reels but now I need something that can withstand heavy use. There is a limit as to where function reaches a ceiling for me though (weight, dexterity, strength etc all optimum) and all the rest is just bragging rights and bling. Alas, I don't know where that limit is as I will remain a tightarse and spend the minimum on a rod for it to do what I require, to my satisfaction at least. Renrag

  20. The raw data isn't solely from the Met Office. They do have many stations from ground stations and upper atmospheric weather balloons but also use 'non-met office' satellite data that they incorporate into their preferred programming. This might help http://www.realclimate.org/index.php/data-sources/ It all comes down to the programs each group use to convert the raw data. Even the programs themselves vary each cycle, going through several permutations and analysing each outcome, hundreds and hundreds of times. What we recieve as a forecast is the 'most likely' result. In effect the median of the less extreme/most likely 60%?(guess) and then re-run the program another few hundred times until it stabilises into something that matches or approaches the approximate best guesses of the 'old school' predictions from actual human analysis. Regarding the accuracy of each 'groups' programming sets, each will have its day. It also depends on its 'goal'. i.e. The Met office want to provide a balanced and accurate overall view of the coming weather, the BBC uses the processed data from TMO and plays with it a bit more using older but confirmed data (thats whythe BBC seem about 6 hours behind TMO). XCWeather focuses on wind patterns, strengths and the pressures that define them, the same with windguru. Metcheck just seem to be in it for a giggle etc... Well, thats how I'm led to believe it works...? It could just be MAGIC! Renrag
  21. I would say thats closer the mark Wilko. Never noticed a tendency for Pike to drop a run, until I picked up the rod that is and began my strike. Now I use circles and abruptly stop the baitrunner after 2-3 seconds, virtually bolt rigging them in the scissors. Don't even really strike now, just hold on and give the tip a small, sharp jerk when I feel the weight! Renrag
  22. As some of you may know, my Dad runs a wildlife rescue centre, so I've had a bit of contact with the RSPCA over the years. The RSPCA at ground level are great. Very helpful and committed to doing their best for all the animals and birds they come into contact with. The problem starts with the office bunnies who don't know a fox from a badger and (nearly) everyone above them has almost complete disregard for (wild) animals. IMO, save your donations to the RSPCA and give the money to your local wildlife rescue centres if you want to support wildlife. They do do a pretty good job with pet animals however. Suprisingly that's where the most money is... funny that... Tbh, I'm suprised the RSPCA give a sh!t about Swans. I guess they are the Queens pets though. I feel better now. Renrag
  23. Had a lil bit about 1500hrs. Didn't lay, just looked nice as it fell. So where'd that 'winter from hell' get to? Renrag
  24. Get your lures out Dave Pike are very active in summer. They race around burning lots of energy, chasing active prey in temperatures that raise their metabolism. Its a vicious circle for them. They'll wolf down a deadbait so damn quick that even the best, most sensitive bite detection may not be fast enough, resulting in deephooking. Not being funny but in summer, think of them as oversized 3" Perch and you'll get my drift Mr Waller, I know exactly what you mean. Renrag
