  1. If you haven't lost a cell you'll be fine, if its not a fully sealed top it up with demin and charge it overnight. Ideally if your charger has an inbuilt battery checker it will tell you its good. Next time if you leave the car for a while then take off the negative side of the battery (dc runs neg to pos) anything requiring a charge in your car will drain it over time (ECU, Radio, Clock, Dials etc). Go look up your corect battery rating and check you have the right starting amps and capacity for your car if you are not sure it's the right one and if it does it again have your alternator checked to be on the safe side
  2. Very much so Phone. I am still of the mind that the machine doesn't kill but the mind behind it does mentality. If all the guns on the planet vanished tommorow all that would happen is we would degenerate to knife crime and if they went it would be clubs. We can't help being the species we are. As for private gun ownership i'm not really all for or all against, perhaps more punitive penatlies for those guilty of gun crime, but if you are the point of armed robbery will you really care. On the other hand I do want to hear more about your katana Kirisute. If you can keep curved edged weapons now then that means they are pre 1950s blades iirc or are we talking older. Edo period swords are like the mona lisa but harder to find
  3. I know exactly where you are coming from, I sat on Stanwick yesterday and watched an entire lake catch absolutely nothing for 8 hours. While I was there I chatted with a few of the other anglers and one metioned he went to drayton a few weeks back and blanked. Considering apart from when its been extremely cold I have always caught at drayton, even my 10 year old pulled a 16lb common out last time I was there. Not sure if the freakish weather this year has pushed the spawn back but i will be over at drayton in the next week or so, if I get there before you I will give a report back
  4. Alot of anti cat sentiments here lol. I have a Korat (thai fighting cat) who has yet to destroy any local wildlife and actually comes back to use his litter tray in the utility room (much to my chagrin). Cats are as mentioned before a free roaming creature and not subject to any control, however there are a few ways to keep them out of the garden without shooting them with anything or causing them any harm. Cheap aftershave at nose height on posts will make them think there is something bigger and scarier around (hai karate will actually keep cats away as well as women) it is possible to get lion dung as well which has the same effect. also you could try something one of my neighbours did to a local cat that was frequenting his back garden, he caught it rubbed mustard on its ar5e and set it off on its way. It was probably the funniest thing i ever saw it wandered off like it was on stilts then every time it stopped to lick itself it was shaking its head too. Never came back mind
  5. Not specifically seen any deals together but are diawa mission x rods any good ? you could get 3 of them and a matching set of okuma baitrunners in that budget
  6. Best tip i ever got when i started was to dip the tip of the rod into the water and reel in sharply a couple of turns to sink the line to prevent the line bowing and the float drifting. Make sure the hook can pull through the bait before you start or you'll never hook anything. I personally prefer maggots and soft hooker pellets for general coarse fishing but its all very much a horses for courses discussion that. Try fishing around the margins just because you have a rod and reel doesn't mean you have to smash it out as far as possible unless you are looking for a particular feature or you can see serious fish activity. Fish the bottom to start with if you are struggling with that lay a few inches of line on No one groundbait or bait is best again horses for courses. I find on one pond i go to if i use maggot i get nothing but perch, if i use strawberry pellet the carp love it. Maybe start simple using maggots and throw a few maggots in occasionally as free offerings. Finally have a good read through the forums the guys on here are very experienced and you'll find the full range of answers to alot of questions from the science to the black art of it all
  7. Go have a chat with the OC PTI if no one else wants it then they should let it ride, plus its always good on annual appraisals. Couldn't have gotten that bad in the mob they'll let something wind down just because of rank. Hang on why did i leave again?
  8. Vacant Ic slot for fishing get that one under your belt soon as, fishing as a duty then. Seeing as i managed to avoid RAF Scotland like a case of the pox i have no contacts that way, doesn't suprise me that the PTIs are still useless unless it involves a beep test.
  9. Exactly how much do you have to drink to not realise you are on fire
  10. You should be able to go down to and see the PTI's who'll have a list of all the clubs etc on camp. Failing that and if you are brave enough the SWO will definately have a list of all the secondary duties and the contact details. As a heads up if you don't know and if its still going there is/used to be an annual trip to ascention island to go sea fishing as an exped
  11. That was pretty much the original idea but without alot of fitting and fettleing i don't think its plausible. This is now what i am going to try
  12. by the time you got throug the first bottle your ability to look for bite would have severly diminished XD after the second its not classed as fishing anymore its a cheese and wine party al fresco
  13. There are a few who make them but i have a set of not baitrunner type which i would like to have converted but it seems the conversion is a quick drag rather than a full baitrunner type
  14. A very good point i think i'll spool them up properly and give them a whirl on saturday however i have found a method of changing how fast the drag comes on. IF i change the spring in the caps to a solid olive (the mitchell caps are screw fitted as well) according to the write up i can go from free spool to full drag in a half turn of the cap. The proble i can see with this is that potentially I could end up winding on too much and lose sensitivity
  15. When I first got back into this fishing game again I originally bought myself some JRC carp rods and a pair of Mitchel avocarp big pit reels to get started, it didn't take long though before i invested in a set of baitrunners but i still have 2 big pit reels that have only been used a few times. Recently I have been wondering if its possible to convert these to a baitrunner type with a bit of jiggery pokery or if i should just leave well enough alone and stick with applying pressure to the spool while i wind up the clutch. As stupid as it sounds I have had much more joy fishing with the big pits than the baitrunners (my first high double was on them) and i'm wondering if this is due to any particular reason, maybe the fact its easier to haul the line in with the big pits or just the fact i have had more luck when with them and clearly the baitrunenrs have had a gypsy curse placed on them. So is there a method of converting and would you think its the best thing to do? Whats the general opinion
  16. Fake boilie with a natural bait in front? Not sure if thats going to contravene the rules but its one way
  17. I dunno Cory its similar to a what purpose does it serve kind of question and opens up a whole new chapter of discussion on either intelligent design or evolution. BTW the thermos flask keeps it hot keeps it cold, how does it know which one?
  18. Having been in this position about 2 years ago i would suggest the middy impact whips, a couple of the premade rigs a disgorger and a bait box. All of that should cost you under £30 for 2 sets and will be plenty to go down to a local pond and fish the margins. I found the whips the best for the kids as its alot easier for them to connect with the fish on the lift and prevents alot of time cutting line out of trees with a rod and reel, plus it requires alot less logistics to transport. I found with my two they were struggling to strike on rod and reel and missing alot of fish but with pole floats you see alot more indication and as long as they are catching they'll remain interested, although my daughter prefers other things now but my sons quite content to try and brain me with a method feeder and sit for hours on the bank. Finally the guys around here are extremely knowledgeable and helpful and will give you tons of good advice
  19. I'm impressed you've managed to go from theroies on the creation of the universe to global warming in a fairly short space thats quite a reduction in lightyears. I would suggest that the majority of people theorise on things they don't realise virtually daily, for instance an "educated guess" can be perceived as a theory as you are basing it on known facts. For instance if you calculate the area of a circle its not 100% accurate but its fairly close that doesn't mean that when you go to buy new tyres you can accuse the tyre fitter of selling you the wrong sized tyre based on the manufacturers calculations at the point of the creation of the moulds. Without theories there would be no new discoveries made. However i digress. The first law of thermodymanics is the conservation of energy which states energy can never be created or destroyed, only changed in state. Assuming that the totality of the universe is an isolated system then there can only be so much energy available within that system The second law of thermodynamics (entropy) means that any subsystems within the totality of the universe when interacting with each other are trying to reach a stable state or equilibrium To me this means that if there is still energy being exchanged in the system then the initial reaction from the stable state then something such as a phase shift must have started (or restarted) this process therefore the big bang theory still holds water. This thread has perked my interest to go and revisit some of the things i enjoyed reading a good few years ago now and the good thing about theories is they will all have changed or have been refined as more and more information and methods of measurement have been discovered. On the other hand if its the creationism thing that you believe I have two questions 1 Can you ask god for the rib back 2 what are you going to do if the jews are right
  20. As a beginner I still tend to use heavier lines than paticulary necessary. I have daiwa sensor spooled up in 5lbs for general float, 10lbs for carp and ledgering and 15lbs for where i expect bigger carp. I find due to the fact i'm still getting tangled in trees having a heavier line saves me alot in lost ledger weights and feeders . Also dependant on hooks if you buy hooks to nylon the line strength is usually paired to the hook, i.e the smaller the hook the lower the line strength, its also alot quicker to change a hook to nylon through the loop than tie on another spade end but then i have large sausage like fingers
  21. Well i headed up there yesterday from about 10am till 5pm and apart from a few liners had nothing at all, although a few of the more experienced regulars were wandering around the lake and commenting on the lack of action. I was on Mallard and fishing small pva mesh filled with crushed boilies from one rod and pellets squeezed onto a method from the other. From the chats i did have the lake is producing the peg i was on had seen bream to 10.5lbs and carp to 28lbs over the past few weeks and the fish seem to have been feeding from 6pm onwards (bloody typical). On the upside my casting is a damned sight more accurate now and doesn't leave those in the pegs either side wanting crash lids or in fear for their lives and it was fairly consistant too so it wasn't a total loss. From my impressions its a nice set of waters and looks like its going to be a new home for me in the warmer months, once i start getting some joy on mallard i'll have a go at elsons. I'll be taking my son up there over the weekend to fish the carpark lake and hopefully get him landing a few as he's put up with a few long sessions without joy on the carp lakes and i don't want to dim his enthusiasm too much.
  22. Its usually due to an accident of birth that involves some form of petrochemical getting too near the brain. We can usually be identified by looking around hardware and tool shops, we'll be the ones going ooooh at bearing pullers that could service a dc-10 and stating how much we need it when secretly we know we don't but its shiny and mechanical and and and i'm off for a lie down now as i jsut googled bearing pullers
  23. You may laugh but these in the desert http://vizresources.blogspot.com/2009/06/s...el-spiders.html looked too much like these http://www.flickr.com/photos/r-h/3301350440/ in my mind hated the buggers, mind you if you put a live one on could you pull the fish out like a comedy fairground claw machine
  24. Interesting read I should really have spent a bit more time reading the forums before I went out and bought more mainline but we'll see. Last year was my first year back fishing in 16 years due to my son wanting to go and after a few sessions I decided to get geared up and get back into it since then I have bought a good whack of reasonable carp gear and hit a few resevoirs. Obviously due to not being in the know I sought out this forum and read into different things via the usual sources and discovered the flouro argument. first outing I went with sensor mainline and a flouro hooklink whick promptly broke at the knot on the first decent take (since discovered the palomar which i think was the error) but after that i went straight onto coated braid for hooklengths and haven't bothered with flouro. Since then I have read a bit more and I have got a bulk spool of Yo Guri (yu gi oh yo sushi?) line on its way to try, apparently its a hybrid and the reviews I found on it seemed good so we'll see how it goes. Unfortunately it'll hardly be a fair test as i would expect my journey along the learning curve to go on (can't remain this duff forever ) so it'll hardly be a fair test or all that informed but it'll certainly be unbiased
