  1. Oh I can think of a few things to show em about alternative uses for a pole.........and until mine is sold I have one to demonstrate with too
  2. All best wishes and yes I will say it, my prayers, for you and your family for a successful outcome. SteveH
  3. (Quote) "We have no plans to campaign against shooting in the UK," says IFAW's Gill Sanders. "The RSPCA has no plans whatsoever to do any work on hunting or fishing," echoes David Bowles, the organisation's Head of Campaigns. "It's simply a myth that we're going to move on to shooting and fishing. It would be silly for us to open up a whole new area when there is no public and political support for it." The operative statements here are "We have no plans to campaign" however, no plans does not mean it isnt on the agenda. And, "It would be silly for us to open up a whole new area when there is no public and political support for it." However WHEN there is public and political support for it what do the RSPCA plan to do about it then. I have back in the 60's fished coarse fish for food. I think the suggestion that we set size limits for 'food' fish, that are unrealistically high is a sound one that negates many of the arguments of the antis, and without making ourselves into liars we can all then say we are fishing for food, which removes the aspect of fishing (for some read inflicting pain) for pleasure only. The other aspects of angling, ie being 'custodians' of the waterways, anti pollution patrollers etc. etc. all then underpin this approach. In the eyes of the majority this would sem reasonable. Organisations such as PETA do not even condone the keeping of pets, suggesting that this is exploitation. That doesnt even look at their stance on the less savoury practices we woul;d all find distateful that are often involved in raising animals for profit. This is a high profile organisation with professional organisation, high profile celebrity backers etc. etc. We as a group think they arent going to be coming for us? In my opinion thats just wishful thinking. The often quoted figures of how many of us go fishing don't matter, neither does the financial arguments (ask any miner about making a sound financial argument for protection of a way of life, if you can find one that is). PETA and others including the RSPCA will be coming for us. We are 'on notice' and NOW is the time to both realise this and prepare to take the ground from under their feet. Due to the emotive nature of the out of date (sometimes by over 20 years) research these people often quote, many none anglers will be swayed by their arguments without bothering to check these often flawed research works out for themselves. Wow where did all that come from? SteveH
  4. I wish Common, Im still looking for the gits (possibly smakhead gits) that burgled my home and took my fishing tackle making it so that I have to sell this pole to buy more of the rod and line stuff I prefer to use. Note I am not looking for the tackle thats long gone, but I have a long memory and I just know one day i will find out who took it, I did last time I had my tackle nicked and boy was meeting the lad that took it satisfying
  5. Yes Norrie it was recalling that thread that tipped me off so to speak, when it all comes out I bet these people are operating from either eastern europe, holland or east africa as most of these operations seem to.
  6. Ok Guys and guyesses, as you can see I have a Maver Pole advertised here for sale. I have advertised the same pole on other forums too. Today I got a likely sounding email, enquiring about it. The english wasnt perfect, but then again neither is mine. The person using what I now assume to be a false name (Bill Moore), asked for more details about the pole and my address. I replied asking for his, as he claimed to have a 'certified cashiers cheque ready and waiting. What I got in return was a promise to pay £4000 into my bank and that a 'shipping agent' would be sent to pick up the pole. This second email was written in English so broken a fracture clinic couldnt help it.I have informed this person that no way do I want them to send any sort of payment (I will certainly not be releasing my bank details to them anyway), that I am also forwarding their email to the police, and my local Trading Standards Office and I will certainly do this. This has all the hall marks of an Identity theft scam, and possible cleaning out of bank accounts, tho to be honest mine is so overdrawn they couldnt damage it. Just a heads up not to release your details without some thought. SteveH
  7. Maybe you then find out that you want a better one and have to fork oput again? This reply has nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that I am trying to sell a brand new £800 pole for half price ovno. (Much) lol.
  8. Tony, I have never ben fly fishing but maybe we could meet up one day and you can show me the ropes a little, I used to live in Hemsworth so know the area even though I now live in Doncaster.
  9. Last time I fished half moon was over 20 years ago, hows is it fishing these days?
  10. Yes the pub you mention is still there and so is the fishing, the pub is actually called the Rustic Arms and is a bit of a swine to find if you dont know the way, its down a lane straight opposite a large Quaker Bording School in a village called Ackworth. Sorry pangolin but all 5 venues mentioned here are around 8 to 10 miles from Wakefield. SteveH
  11. Knots that work are also tried and tested and more to the point trusted, plus I find it casts better, but I do love the instant response and feedback braid gives. SteveH
  12. Stubbs Hall lakes on the A638 between wakefield and doncaster is fishing well at the moment after about 10am, tactics taking even double figure carp and large bream are pineapple boilies fished anywhere, but usually within 20ft from the side. Two lakes here the first one nearest the carpark is trout only, C&R, or you can elect to fish as put and take with different limits costing different amounts. You might also consider Hemsworth water park, at Kinsley, the smaller of the two lakes is usually a good perch roach water during winter. Its cheap too. Both places tickets bought on the bank. Stubbs hall is commercial and you can take your car to your peg whilst you unload and load your tackle then take it back to the car park. Also in this area, but again not actually in wakefield are Nostell Priory but you would need a wakefield book (availablke from fred alexanders in the town) a top fishery for Carp and Pike in winter, and Sally Walshes dam (next door to Hemsworth Water Park, and the home of the largest carp caught in yorkshire, this water is run by Barnsley Blacks and tickets are available on the bank at both of these waters too. If ya want any more suggestions let me know but all of the four I have mentrioned have given me good winter sport. Tight Lines. SteveH
  13. Leeds m8y, can I also suggest you dont get too 'hung up' at this stage about hooks to nylon as opposed to tied directly to your mainline. I tend to use seperate hooklinks as a safety feature (ie if the line is going to break its almost certainly going to be the weaker hooklink that does so). Especially when ledgering or using the 'method' etc this means a fish wont end up tehered to vegtation etc. Another benefit you will find, if you stick to using seperate hooklinks is that a weaker line is usually going to present your bait more naturally and with less for the fish to see and so is less likely to spook them. Obviously theres more to it than this but as a beginner I would recommend that you also use hook lengths of a weker strength to your mainline by a ratio of 3/4 ie 3lb hook length to 4lb mainline and adjust according to the mainline you are using. All the best and tight lines. SteveH
  14. Hi all, Im a lifelong angler but only coarse fishing so far. This year I intend to learn a) fly fishing and Beach fishing. I have heard that sisnce the waters on the north east coast have cleared up (due to the demise of coal mining) and since the cod stocks seem to have diminished Bass have started to be caught from the surf using spinning tactics around Redcar. Wondering if this is true, and if so what tackle and places would any northeast anglers suggest i try, time of year etc etc etc. Hope I dont get laughed off the forum with this but I am a total novice when it comes to salt water fishing. SteveH
  15. I know you asked about a maggot based approach, but why not consider my Stainforth and Keadby canal approach for cold weather chubbing. And this has woked for me when the canal is practically iced over. Use premium quality steak on the hook, cut into slivers approximately 2 to 3 times the size of a maggot, try and ensure the steak is really fresh and really bloody. Losse feed either with small amounts of cheap minced beef, or maggots. Give it a try and let me know what happens I assure you I have had excellent results with this method.
  16. May your crotch be infested by hungry lice, and your arms be too short to scratch (anon)
  17. LOL budgie I guess Im a faggot if flavouring and coulring mashed bread means that, but hey I catch a lot with it so mince this way LMAO. Wolfy no I dont think Im the minnow basher you think I am. Im a pure pleasure angler form yorks, dont really do match fishing, if thats where you think you know me from. But hey Im a friendly guy so dont worry SteveH
  18. Brand new and unused, with holdall, 1x top 3 and 3xtop 2 power kits, dirt caps, and guarantee. Not cut back for bushes. Unused insurance supplied kit due to a burglary, My main love is rod and line angling and as I still need to replace tackle the insurance didnt supply I'm selling this pole. rrp is £800, discount prices are £500+ my price £400 (down from last time advertised here) ovno, buyer to collect or pay postage. This is a genuine offer, I will accept very near offers but unwilling to go much lower on price. I am willing to deliver within yorkshire but for cash sale only. This Pole is brand new so in excellent condition. I absolutely guarantee that this pole is not 'hookey' in any way and this is a genuine offer by the legal owner.
  19. Congratulations to you both.....26 years is a real achievement these days and shows a real committment to each other and the vows you took. It also says a great deal about your willingness to take the rough with the smooth and work at the relationship. It nust be love
  20. Are we allowed to readvertise here please?
  21. I have only one sticker on my box or I did till it got nicked (the box) it was a 'take friend fishing' sticker
  22. In support of the Illustrious Dr Bruno, theft is taking or holding another persons property or belongings and witholding there access to same, so if we catch a fish without the owners of fishing rights permission we are witholding their property from them technically thats theft even if we dont take the fish away.
