  3. With the vote beginning to see whom will be the Democrat challenger to George Bush going on, and John Kerry winning the first vote in Iowa - I wonder if he can win the vote to be the Democrat Challenger, and also if he has what it takes to topple George Bush and become US President? Have did quite a bit of reading up on Kerry, and he seems to be a very interesting and intellgent guy - a Vietnam war veteran, and also more importantly a very intelligent man with values - he has much much more credibility than the other Democrat candidates from what I can see. Going to be interesting to see how things turn out - and if he can sway the vote in the South. Gillies [ 20. January 2004, 12:02 PM: Message edited by: Gillies ]

    Shads

Have used them succesfully for Pollack, using a slow retrieve in shallow waters. Small 4" to 6" ones fished of a boom, and colours such as Orange, Pink, Dark Red and yellow have done the business for me in the past. Gillies
  5. A friend was telling me a funny one on Saturday night - he took a friend new to loch fishing, fishing last summer here on the Isle of Lewis, camping over night at a loch around 2 hours walk into the hills. On arrival they set up camp at the side of the loch, and built a small camp fire in the rocks at the waters edge, and made up a make shift stove. He turned to his friend and handed him the kettle, and asked him to fill it with water. His friends reply was: "where do I get the water?" LOL What made the day funnier though was that the guy new to fishing had 2 fresh run Salmon first thing in the morning - where as my friend was inundated by small trout all day. Made me laugh anyway Gillies
  6. On my pals computer, after some telephone calls to where she got the laptop from - it was found out that the laptop had been purchased by someone, and then returned to the store the same day. Thats how the virus got onto her "new" computer. Gillies
  7. My friend had same problem last weekend, got a bran new Sony Laptop - and when trying to connect to the web after a few mins the whole computer would shut down. She called her I.S.P and they told her what to do. Gillies

  10. Have tried sending you the Kazaa Lite install, and its failing as your i.s.p is moaning about it as its an executable file. I have uploaded it to my web site, and can send you the link to download it from ... Or failing that, if you have MSN Messenger, I can send the file to you directly through that. Gillies
  11. If no one has sent you it. I can send you v1.71 just now - and it can be updated on install, or when I get into office in morning can send you most recent one. Gillies
  12. I have no problems with Kazaa Lite, and it doesn't have the spyware rubbish that is in normal Kazaa - but Im finding to many dead files and slow download speeds with Kazaa. I've recently been using one called Direct Connect - is great for fast downloads of larger files, but can take a wee while to get used to. http://www.neo-modus.com/ Gillies

    rotk?

LOTR3 is fantastic, watched over and over and not tiring of it, it has everything! The extended version on DVD when out should bring things together so much better. I'm not a big reader, but am seriously thinking of reading the books - my ex-girfriend says they make the whole experiece of LOTR so so so much better!! Gollum is amazing in LOTR3 - (oh and the first scene will appeal to people on here ) Gillies
  15. Why download programs, when a simple select statement in SQL on a web page will give do? Once you have the table on the page, it can be saved as an HTML page and imported into Excel. Gillies
  16. to stop them do the following: Go into the 'Control Panel' Select 'Administrative Tools' Select 'Services' Go down to 'Messenger' (note this has nothing to do with MSN Messenger) Double Click on 'Messenger' Change Startup Type to 'Manual' Click on 'Stop' so Service Status is 'Stopped' Click on 'Apply' and 'OK' it. This should sort it. Gillies [ 09. January 2004, 01:46 PM: Message edited by: Gillies ]
  17. Hi Elton I'm guessing your using PHP? You could export the database column into an HTML table, save this as an HTML File and then import into Excel. Seems a quick and simple method. If you have problems doing this, you could use an admin program such as PHPMyAdmin http://www.phpmyadmin.net execute a query to display the column as a table, and save as an HTML file, and then import into Excel. Good Luck. Gillies
  18. A simple and free solution of the top of my head, could be the Sharing facility in Net Meeting, which comes as standard with XP. I used to use it do remote work on machines over NYC from here (slow but usuable on dial-up, pretty nippy over a LAN), but have moved onto PC Anywhere. Gillies
  19. Got sent this link, kind of made me laugh. http://digital-eel.com/sirl/flyplane.htm The more I looked into it on web, was surprised as people actually do this as a serious hobby !!! Gillies

    "poor" cod

We get quite a few Poor Cod of the Isle of Lewis, often anglers picking them up when fishing small baits over hard ground, such as when fishing for Cuckoo Wrasse during competition. Our club record is only a small 7 oz, I'll search about and see if I have a photo of one somewhere. They are often confused with small Pouting as Vagabond says. Gillies
  21. Yeah, I mean any fish caught in the sea, both shore and boat sorry for not putting myself across clearly Some great fish been caught in 2003 .... anymore? Gillies

    Braid

Hi In my opinion (for boat fishing) to answer your questions: 1. Yes, its fantastic and gives you much much better bite detection and does not drag in the tide anywhere near as much as mono of the same diameter. You feel in much more direct connection with a hooked fish, but due to the very little strech nature of braid you feel every tug of the fish, and if drag on reel is not set correctly hooks can come out of a fishes mouth slighly easier than with mono since there is no stretch. I throughly recommend it for boat fishing - unless you are only doing inshore fishing over reef in very shallow waters etc. 2. I know people whom just use 50lbs right through, and swear by it. 3. You can join them very easily, there was a posting on here a few weeks back regarding this. If you are talking about beach fishing, well I don't know - as I've never tried it. I do hear tales of anglers complaining that due to it's lightness that the wind easily catches onto it and leaves it wrapped around the tip after casting, which can be annoying. Some friends I have used to use it for inshore spinning, but since they were usually spinning for Pollack - and tackle losses over snaggy ground were high they stopped using it, as they were loosing so much line - and the stuff is not cheap. 23. Happy New Year Everyone, and thanks for a fun 2003 on AN, and I look forward to 2004 postings. My first totally sober New Year in years Hope we all have great fishing this year. Gillies

    Timing

All my fresh water fishing is done for Brownies, Sea Trout and Salmon from mid April through to early October, and I'm not a fan of fishing for Rainbow Trout. Though I do plan on "hopefully" doing some Sea Trout fishing in February with the fly in the sea, if the weather allows me. Gillies
