  1. The video clip file can be easily adjusted, so it can be embedded into a Flash file, that can then be easily put on a web for everyone on anglers net to see If you still dare to put it online, fire it over to me and I'll make up such Flash file and put it online, if no one else will. Gillies

    Sun Fish

They do look unqiue/special in the water, kind of like they have just returned from a day in the pub. Gillies

    Sun Fish

Does anyone had anyone know of Sun Fish been caught on rod and line in the past few years? and if so how are they caught? I was at sea yesterday with 2 friends, and we spotted 2 Sun fish both in the same area around 50 meters away from each other, one was what seemed to be "sun bathing" (a small one) the other (much larger) was just woddling through the water with its fin out like a "drunk" shark. We went up tide of the fish so we drifted into it's track, and got around 3 foot away from it before it slowly dived down. (of course it dives as Im trying to focus on it with camera - and the rough sea didnt help) Is the first one I have seen in around 10 years, really is a beautiful (and strange looking) fish. Gillies
  4. Ive been hit by it, on one of my e-mail accounts (an AOL one) I received about 10-15 emails from people with the virus attached to it (a pif file) which I just ignored, and erased. However Im getting mailer daemon failed returned e-mails for e-mails that I did not send, to addresses I have never even heard off. A server is e-mailing me saying I had it, but nothing is showing up in my sent mail box! I would love to get my hands on the people whom make those viruses and tie them to a fence in the wilds of the highlands, when the midges are bad! The Symmantec removal tool gets rid of it. Gillies
  5. Yes, Dentists !!!!!!!! I am there at 2pm tomorrow, and have been freaking out ever since I got the appointment. Oh, and also wasps ... I run a mile at the sight of them. Gillies
  6. Love it or hate it, the Mackerel is a superb fish, great fun on light line, nice to eat, great bait, and lovely to look at (except when you jab yourself on the wee spike at its anal duct) Like many whom have been sea angling since a youngster, the Mackerel brings back great memories of fishing from the shore for them! It is a shame really that they are so easily damaged, and they can prove to be a pest when targeting other species. Is also a real shame that people take the for granted so easily, and turn barbaric when catching them !!!!! More info about their lifecycle would be great to know Gillies
  7. I fish the bubble float most of the time on the lochs not just here on the Isle of Lewis but through out Scotland on "natural unstocked lochs", and have never had any problems what so ever. I am unsure if any stocking programmes were introduced on Loch Ness at all. Hence if you are fishing waters that have "Frankenstein Fish" aka Rainbow Trout or reared Brown Trout the fishery or estate can ban floats, as you are fishing a stocked water. There is no problem with using bubble floats, unless the estate you are fishing on explicitly states so. I may be wrong, but as far as I know the law in Scotland states that since Wild Brown Trout are native to Scotland, and since the tresspass law differs here in Scotland for fishing lochs/rivers, that an angler can fish for Brown Trout on "any" loch that has not been stocked with Trout in the last 2 or 3 years as long as they are using suitable and legal means. This leaves a very grey area where Salmon fishing is concerned as you can claim you are fishing for Brown Trout (supposedly) on any Salmon fishing estate that has not been stocked as long as you are using fishing tackle deemed suitable for Brown Trout and NOT Salmon. Someone correct me if Im wrong, but this arguement that I am led to believe is the law has held me well when ever I have had to argue with gamekeepers on estates I do not have access to readily. "Alledgedly" a quick change from 12 lbs line and size 2 hooks on a bubble float using worms on Salmon lochs you may not be supposed to be on, down to 2-3 lbs line and size 6-8 hooks when you need to if you think a confrontation is going to be had on a loch can be handy before they get to you Norries suggestions for fishing the fly with the bubble float are almost exactly what I use if Im struggling with wind to fly fish properly, and I also use that technique in the sea for Sea Trout. 8. Was great to see in the paper, very impressive photo Gillies
  9. This posting probably only applies to Scottish members, or anyone down south whom reads the Daily Record. Did I see an anglers net member in Fridays edition of the Daily Record in the fish of the week section with a lovely big fish???? which from the look of it was caught onboard another members boat? Haddock

The Haddock are abundant of the west side of Lewis, out from Loch Roag in the deeper water, but also are pretty plentiful closer in at the mouth of the loch. Of Ness, at the Butt of Lewis there are also loads to be caught, with a fair number of cod amongst them. Mussel or Mackerel baits will never go wrong for them. Gillies

    Laptop

Check out the Dell web site, some great deals on just now, for really good laptops. I use one of the new Samsungs,a great machine, let down heavily by its volume control though Gillies
  12. I have to use MSN Messenegr at work all day long to keep in touch with the idiots in our London office. The microphone facility is pretty good, and a bog standard microphone will do. Gillies
  13. whats Scad like to eat? Gillies
  14. Is best add Ive seen on TV since John West Salmon one :-) Sure is orignal and funny !!!! Gillies
  15. A nice piece of Cod will do me, or some fried Gurnard or Megrim. Oh and fresh Herring cooked any way at all (preferabily smoked) I'm getting hungry now. If you want some Haddock corydoras come up here to the Western Isles of Scotland and you will fill your freezer from the boat. I am sick of catching them, we have a limit of 15 of them in competitions, and this year there are just loads of them, nice ones in the 2lbs to 5lbs bracket. Carl, maybe take a small lobster pot or something with you and stick it out over night where you are not seen, and see what you get in the morning? Crabs, Prawns, Lobsters? you never know! Gillies
  16. If you can get ahold of one of those portable smokers, then Coalfish and Pollack done in it is lovely, especially the Pollack. Dogfish is surprisingly very nice, but if you any fish from the whitefish family you can get a very enjoyable meal I think, the same goes for flat fish ... and if you get them, Gurnards (skinned of course). 17. No, I'm not saying murder at all. "A person may use such force as is reasonable in the circumstances in the prevention of crime" What is deemed reasonable? In self-defence of your belongs to an intruder and you use force how to you deem what is reasonable force? Until the intruder has either ran away or you have used enough force to deter or detain the intruder. What happens if the intruder uses force to ensure that he/she deters you from stopping them robbing you and your life in at danger? This kind of thing has so many if's, and but's, it could be argued for ever. For every arguement, there seems to be a counter arguement. Again, I am not saying murder. I am saying use reasonable force to deter the intruder depending on the "circumstances". But circumstances can vary drastically, and again how do you deem what is reasonable force? A man breaks into your house, you push him away, punch him, and he falls to the ground banging his head fatally. Now, you have used what you deemed reasonable force to deter him, but the circumstances have caused his death. Are criminal charges brought in against you for manslaughter, or are you acting in self defence? I would say thats self-defence, but it could be argued my a smart lawyer in defence of the intruders family etc. that you murdered him by using excessive force. This is a legal mine field !!!!! Gillies
  18. Its a evil legal circile that seems no matter what way you look at it, the law can still favour the intruder  Gillies
  19. Hi Davy Just noticed your post on the contenious issue of people representing our country in boat matches, and I fully agree with you. This issue is always brought up in the discussion forum on that England Biased Sea Angling magazine web sites discussion board by us Scots Both the EFSA Scotland and SFSA should totally relook at how they select both their A & B teams. there also seems to be a central region bias towards the team selections ... possibly because these guys have better access to more matches, and to numerous "scratching" matches in the north of England. There are only two or three (Edinburgh & Dalgety Bay and one currently located in Northampton I think??? ... trying not to mention names ) out of the current regular team anglers would I say fish well around the rest of Scotland and UK, and can constantly push for a top 5-10 position in a match, and should be in the team. Some others, I would not say are there on merit, there are many more guys that should be in ahead of them ... are they getting in because they have the time and the money? Is it time for a "proper" change in team selection, to let some new or on the fringes anglers in? All the political stuff going on ... it seems to me that some peoples views on selection, is kind of wanting to tie up the team selection process to the team they want it to be, not what it should be, if they dont want to fish then they dont have to, no one is forcing them It really is a sad state of affairs, and when it gets to this level but I know there has been a number of circumstance involved so kind of understand some of there reasons for it, I guess things needs to be looked at for an overhall, but hopefully an overhall that will continue to have the best possible team resprsent our country, and continue to beat the other home nations I'll probably get crucified for this posting through e-mail, but what the h*ll. 20. It looks like if the law had its way ... if you were unlucky enough to be broken into by an intruder you should stand there and help him take your possesions  Duncan Ferguson the Everton footballer was also a good example, where he caught the intruder and beat him to a pulp to stop him, putting him in hospital ... and then their was an attempt to bring charges at Ferguson. Its crazy! A sign post with "Intruders Beware" like Little Feathers suggested is a good idea, with an image of a maimed intruder on it for the illiterate but then Im sure some smart lawyer would claim their client is partialy visually impaired or something. If someone illegally gains entry to your house for the purpose of criminal activity, it should be your right to restrain/hinder them in any way possible in order to refrain them, and if they get hurt during the process, no matter how badly then its their own fault. Breaking into someones house is a risk they are taking! I guess it could be likened to crossing a busy high street away from the pedestrain crossing, its a risk you are taking, and if you get hurt during the process then you only have yourself to blame.
