  1. Starvin, I've had thoughts of changing my project to a melonseed skiff since I think I can manage the dimensions in my garage. With that said I also thought I could manage the kayak as well. At 17.5 feet long and about 33 inches wide - it got interesting. My garage is 8' by 17' so if I were to point the bow and stern in the corners I could still manage to keep it out of the weather and work on it in relative warmth. (see the logic?)Once I built the stands and cut the forms I realized how massive it really was. The forms are still waiting to be mounted. Something to be said about building something yourself. Yakity, It takes about 300 hours to completely build one. This is supposedly by someone with absolutely no experience. The link I posted (if you were to search for specifics) has volumes of information. Everyone on the forum is extremely helpful. About the cost. Estimates around 700 pounds spring to mind. Then if you were to sell it you might get double that. Personally spending that much time on something I couldn't really assess a value to. I forgot to mention that you can get the lofting from Nick Schades book for three different sea kayaks. Buy them as a kit already cut or just the forms (plans already lofted). Redfish kayaks I think sell a few kits. If I remember correctly the epoxy and fiberglass come with it. I understand scratching them adds character I can't see building something I can't or won't use. Definitely beautiful. Chesters?? Why so glum? [ 07. October 2004, 10:07 PM: Message edited by: Jeff S ]
  2. Yakity, I've been watching a few of your threads on kayaking. Re your interest in expanding members to your association, there is a site here if you haven't already expressed interest there. I know a few members live here in the UK and may be interested. I have plans to build a strip built kayak for fishing but sadly I haven't the space at the moment.
  3. Simon, Some of the lures that are store bought come with over sized trebles which seem way over the top. That being the reason that I switched, with some persuasion from a few AN members. If I am reading your question correctly you suggest using a piece of deadbait added to a spoon or spinner that is already effective by itself. It may affect the action of the lure. I wouldn't myself but it is very effective for bass in the states with pork being used as a trailer. From my experience tossing your lure around your deadbait shouldn't make much difference. If you get a take on a spinner or spoon and miss, they are still likely to move to your deadbait if not back to your lure. So really you can't miss. I always let the swim get quiet and stop throwing the lure after catching but leave your deadbait where it is. Out of curiousity how deep is the canal you will be fishing in? Good luck!
  4. Simon, Stay mobile but the time spent is really up to you. Last year at this time I ended up with 5 fish 3 of which were doubles all out of the same swim. One was taken on a dead mackerel, the rest were taken at different intervals on the same mepps type spinner in less than 4 hours. A few nice perch as well. Try spinning with your extra rod. Spinners aren't that dear. It's the plugs that are more expensive, and don't seem to work all that well in my opinion. I've also changed all my trebles to single hooks. It's really all about the welfare of the fish isn't it? [ 06. October 2004, 10:42 AM: Message edited by: Jeff S ]
  5. A google of pikie turns up some interesting links. Most of which are fishing related. Never having heard the term before. I wouldn't have known it was a derogatory term.
  6. And here I was expecting Foghorn Leghorn, or Wylie Coyote Here's mine or
  7. Nah.. I enjoy standing in water waist deep with the water rushing by, ice around the riverbank and forming in your rod rings. Birds flitting in the trees, the occasional fox and mink, seeing absolutely nobody and catching fin-perfect grayling Czech style. Fantastic!

    CHRISTMAS

Why are they silly money? Nice looking boat Newt. You're already shelling out for the 115, why not go with the 200hp Merc??
  9. Leon, I'm finding this rather interesting. Are you going to give updates?
  10. Yep, wasn't thinking about the fingerprinting part. It would be nice to see them photographing and fingerprinting at every airport. Any idea if it's just foreign/international flights that are being checked? I would bet there would be an uproar over it if it were internal flights as well. Violation of civil liberties or something like it. A bit like the national ID cards? [ 03. October 2004, 08:39 PM: Message edited by: Jeff S ]
  11. Last year while trying to catch a connecting flight from Heathrow into Leeds my wife and I were photographed at security. It's being done, they are just not making as big a deal about it. And on another note, why don't they change the signs to UK residents and non-residents instead of foreign passports and UK passports?

    CHRISTMAS

Such a broad area Elton Here's mine... One of these and maybe a set of these. The chest waders I've got are 5mm neoprene and not very comfortable in July What werre you hoping for? [ 03. October 2004, 08:47 AM: Message edited by: Jeff S ]
  13. Alright Ken, these are sites that I use since my daughter lives in the states. I've used them for the past three years. I've not had a problem with them delivering and they give the option of gift wrapping. Not sure how it works as far as VAT and that though they are American sites. Try KB Toys and Amazon . Hope this helps.
  14. Well this thread blew up didn't it? Chesters I'm confused a bit by your terminology. Long gun? Brown Bess? What regs are you looking at? A single projectile fired from a shotgun we would call a slug and not very accurate either. Most firearms in the States are classed as a rimfire, or centerfire. Blackpowder and shotguns I think are classified differently. Course this is more than likely different here. You can buy firearms over the counter in the states with a waiting period and background check thanks to the Brady bill however, my local tackle shop sells pellet guns but if there are any stipulations I wouldn't know. The problem is that firearms/weapons are available to people that want the power but not the responsibility that goes with them. Anything can become a weapon in the right hands. It's how the weapons are used by the people behind them. [ 01. October 2004, 08:21 PM: Message edited by: Jeff S ]
  15. Not with the carp either. They did have some success with poison though. The problem with carp as it was explained to me is that they muddy the water by rooting at the vegetation thus destroying the habitat for native cut-throat trout. They were not indigenous to the area but reproduced and spread at an alarming rate. That is the case all over the world where a species is introduced with hope that it will help control another . Plants as well.
  16. Carp as well Peter. I've seen it first hand. You wouldn't by chance be speaking about the cull in California? Oh and whats a dwarf? It's a moral issue. Hunting for fun and hunting out of necessity. I wouldn't call it fun but it is a way of life. Schools in the states cater to it. However some of the issues brought up in this thread have merit. But keep in mind the majority of those barbaric acts are few and far between. Not every American carries a high powered rifle on his (or her ) shoulder, a pistol on their belt and a bow in the back window of their truck. [ 27. 17. Seems like it all works out. Why are you complaining? Oh Hi Chesters
  18. The definition 'Bravery' from the male species: True bravery is arriving home stinking drunk after a very late night out with the boys..... Then.....being assaulted by your wife with a broom, And still having the guts to ask: "Are you cleaning, or were you flying somewhere?"
  19. or at least whine and cheese.
  20. when you are logged into Anglersnet or rather what do you get on the web for? 107 visitors and hardly any posts. [ 12. September 2004, 09:33 PM: Message edited by: Jeff S ]
  21. This was off the Here comes Francis thread originally posted by Leon. Auto-updates cloud formation. Anyway I got tired of searching through the old thread to look at it.
