  1. Lead is impervious to X Rays (also discovered within the Victorian age) Maybe then, some rich Victorian families had a preconceived idea that they could hide valuable heirlooms within - to be later recovered?? Bear in mind - even some of the most affluent in the day - weren't the sharpest knives in the drawer!! OK - so you're asking "Why would a coffin be "X Rayed" - answer in the day was -"You Never Know". I was born in the day when a dose of castor oil & orange juice when in labour was thought to be beneficial.
  2. Phone & all - https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwi_uoHmlpjYAhUnIMAKHd-CDsIQyCkIKTAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DgDwCMxPwJ_4&usg=AOvVaw3ZH685Jcux6HoWin-WwWJe
  3. Yes Steve, your Dad is right about the guy in QC. I still am in Engineering QC & can very often tell when somethings wrong even before picking up Any measuring gear. It becomes like a kind of sixth sense ("I see dead components" lol) after a few years in the game.
  4. From what I'm seeing in the photo' - mouth looks upturned so could be Roach/Rudd cross??
  5. I'm NOT being PC, but the PC Brigade (re your "call a spade a spade" comment) would jump on YOU like a ton of bricks!! Moslem & Muslim are both correct, though the term Muslim is more frequently used these days. BTW, I have some very good friends who happen to be Muslim!!
  6. What other religions could be upset at calling Christmas, "Christmas"? I know loads of Sikhs that put up a Christmas tree at Christmas and have a traditional Christmas dinner. I know some Tunisian Moslems who put up Christmas trees at Christmas. PS What's wrong with Diwali? I like my Diwali me. There is Nothing wrong with Diwali & Nothing wrong with Christmas either - It's the PC brigade trying to preempt what people from differing cultures may or may not be offended by. Like the woman who was told to hide a Crucifix down her blouse as it MAY offend Muslim customers!! - Unless of coarse they were expecting Dracula as a surprise guest!! PS What's wrong with Diwali? I like my Diwali me.
  7. Trump will have had removed!!!
  8. Was Christmas - is now "The Festive Season", for fear of upsetting other religions. It's OK to have "Happy Diwali" bunting up in Asda though. (It's still Christmas at our house!!!)
  9. A single Caster with the hook buried inside it or double Caster will often pick out the better fish of most species - Especially big Roach. Size 16 or 18 - I'm talking the OLD hook sizes here not the Rig type hooks which are bigger. These are Ideal. https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwjqy7HZkf7XAhXKt-0KHTXzC6kYABAOGgJkZw&ohost=www.google.co.uk&cid=CAASEuRo06_sQmEusn3SCQ4XsQUj5Q&sig=AOD64_1Jz-W90IYXQHiQiPe0u-12jt1EXA&ctype=5&q=&ved=0ahUKEwjS2azZkf7XAhUBDMAKHaxsB-8Q9aACCDI&adurl= Also available in Ready Tied. And all sizes. Makes perfect sense to use Red hooks for Red baits IMO.
  10. Infamy - Infamy, they've got it infamy!! Stop messin' about.
  11. It was merely a passing comment Ken. Like I said - by a mate at the bus stop!!! I've tried watching Terry Pratchett's stuff, but none appeals.(money must have though for David Jason!) Give Me - A Touch OF Frost - Any day!! Now that's topical, as it 'appens - Jewellry Jewellry!! Tha' name of the band was Shawadde' Wadde'.
  12. Never knew this was Pratchett's material, was just something a workmate came out with at the bus stop years ago.
  13. oar !! - maybe one of Wayne Rooney's Old Oars might have made one in!!!
  14. West Yorkshire - Freezing with a Lazy Wind (can't be bothered to go round - blows straight through you!!)
  15. Yes Steve I know that - I'm just saying they could be from Wild North American ie Fertile stock. In other words - illegally stocked. (though turned out very well all the same)
  16. The only conclusion for me then, is they must have been sneaked in as wild fish or spawn from other shores!! There are some very resourceful people in this world.
  17. When I was still at secondary school, my mate (with whom I also fished) had an Intrepid Black Prince - paired up with a Sealey Blue Match rod. His family had NO angling background so he had to Busk it a bit from scratch. I however had the advantage of all the good (but not top notch) gear my Dad passed on to me. I was brought up with the "PIN" - a narrow drum "Speedia" & my Leger reel was a Grice & Young, the very same one which I'm still using today.
  18. Phone - you have migratory Rainbow Trout on your side of the pond known to all as "Steelheads". Don't think we get these in the UK as all the rainbows over here originate (at least) from fish farms & therefore the urge to migrate to the sea is curtailed. Not really sure if these "Stockies" (originally) have the ability to breed??
  19. These "Bullet Head" Flying "C's" should chuck quite a way!! https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwjbzfPlguXXAhWuvO0KHQGJAKkYABAMGgJkZw&ohost=www.google.co.uk&cid=CAASEuRo_9Mxqqj65oj4XSfNvgzf3w&sig=AOD64_0VUZ81f39cpcflrFVApLx5jprOBg&ctype=5&q=&ved=0ahUKEwi1ie_lguXXAhVpJsAKHSI5AlMQ9aACCDo&adurl=
  20. You could google "The Flying Condom" (The Flying "C" to keep it clean) A heavy Lure for Salmon & Trout as I remember from a TV Prog' a few years ago. Can't remember the guy who presented it!!
  21. ABU Droppen is also available in 4, 6 & 8g. Pound shops sometimes do a card full of 8 or 10 Bodied blade type spinners - "Guess how much they Cost" Lol. Trebles an' all. Not unlike the Droppen. No reason at all they wouldn't catch!! Could afford to lose them all in a single session at that price. 10 - 12 p each.
  22. Good shout Ken, one lesson I learned was to never again phone the airline on this type of issue - They're just out to make money. OK so I bought bigger cases, & needed them anyway - but they're lasting us for many more Hol's.
  23. Last time I inquired, they wanted £36 for taking "Sports Equipment". Needless to say I didn't take up their offer & just bought bigger cases & paid Nowt' extra. Cases were Dunlop from JD Sports & not dear at all, easily take 25 KG each & long enough for most Travel Rods - got My 12 foot Tele' Beach rods in!! If you're really stuck - can cut the Butt end down a bit!!
  24. This 12g ABU Droppen casts very well - see this Vid' (he doesn't catch - but does show how well it casts even with just an underhand Flick!! "https://www.youtube.com/embed/8ARPR3zKZ80" Can't understand a word though - Nowegian/Swedish?? Who cares - Just watch!!
