I've heard that whiting are tasty when grilled with a knob of butter. There are the various "flatties" that you didn't mention.

For anyone wishing to be bigger....it has it's drawbacks you know. In the winter I have to tuck the end into my sock otherwise it gets pretty chilly!

Sounds like you all had a great time even though the fishing wasn't the best (apart from the 2lb mack ). What I would really like to know is.....did anyone chuck their guts up?

Rick Thanks for posting the picture and discription for Newt. Couldn't you "doctor" one so that it meets your needs, easy enough to add extra weight to get it to the bottom faster.

Newt, Rick It's a case of finding the depth and throwing in your freebies up stream at a distance which allows them to reach the bottom of the river bed at your swim. Otherwise a great gadget called a "bait-dropper" can be used to deposit hemp or whatever acurately.

I just have to share this with you guys and gals. Caught my first ever Chub this evening....4lb 15oz and believe it or not, caught on the local canal. The evening was topped off with a 10lb 8oz mirror carp which fought like it was much bigger. All in all, a fantastic night and i'm well chuffed.

My partner had an operation on her knee which involved sanding down the inside of the knee joint if that is any help.
