  1. My wife asked me for an example of an innuendo so I gave her one.
  2. Last time out I conducted a very short and unscientific experiment using fake corn and real corn fished on the feeder and the float. The result was 0 - 8 I gave up on the fake variant. Further fish were caught on real corn @nd real maggots .
  3. It's an illness Ian, an incurable one until all strength in my arms runs out. I wish I could be as minimalist as you and do try.
  4. Cracking fish Ian. Is that a Lythe pin?
  5. The likely numbers will barely scratch the surface of our stillwaters. They may take cormorants, coots and mallard which would be handy. They would also be welcome to a few carp. Let's face it the pest water fowl , including gulls have few natural predators so a small cull by a magnificent bird of prey would be worth club membership alone and I'd go just to watch.
  6. Thanks for all your comments. I will try the suggestions and report back eventually. I caught 3 tench yesterday on real corn.
  7. In this crazy world anything is possible but a second term of Trump would be beyond the pale even by US standards, worse than voting in Bush twice.
  8. I don't know who I'd vote for. The Tories led by a buffoon are unelectable, Corbin is a disgrace to the Labour Party in general and to politics in particular. The lib dems are the only option for me but the first past the post system works against them. I have never been political but the current paltry lot of MPs make one realise how low we've sunk.
  9. The Tory party makes the NF look like the WI. They are a disgrace and will damage this country irreparably. Mind you where is the alternative.
  10. Not as good by a long way but this cloud formation over the hills in Nice France foretold an impending storm and did it rain....
  11. ........ but he's a brexiteer and in charge of the Brexit process!! God help us.
  12. Tigger might recognise this venue!
  13. Just testing if my pics can be posted. A good day at a delightful venue with over 20 small fish and 12 carp like this to 10lb. I blanked yesterday on a different water so needed a result. imghost
  14. I am puzzled by the " worst case scenario" plans by Gove for after brexit. Surely he has confidence in the utopia, paradise, Valhalla that Brexit will bring ;seemingly not! If he isn't convinced why should I, and 17 million similarly minded people be so? A rhetorical question not requiring the usual leave camp drivel.
  15. Youth is wasted on the young. If you look at the history of The Uk over the last 2 thousand years we have been invaded by the Romans ( Italians), Saxons( Germans) vikings( Scandinavia generally) the Normans ( french) and our monarchs have married Spaniards, Dutch, German and Greek citizens. I speak french, have a home in France, my putative son in law is Swedish, my parents lived in Spain for 20 years and have a home there, my youngest daughter, a lawyer is french and Uk qualified so yes I do feel European . I cannot foresee a successful future ignoring the EU but I concede I might be wrong. By the way our country is ruled by regulations created here and in Europe and will remain so Brexit or not.
  16. Believe me the prospect of Brexit has my almost undivided attention. If there are people denying your children and colleagues a home, a job and easy access to their GP, they are either seasonal workers doing jobs brits do not want do not want to do or non Europeans . Most immigration to this country is of non Europeans. My experience and that of my entire family has been positive. I regard myself as a European and will remain one regardless. The leavers were lied to and swallowed all the lies, to make a piscatorial metaphor, hook line and sinker. Nothing you can say will ever persuade me that I am wrong but if I am , and still alive to tell the tale, I will apologise unreservedly but remain living in Europe.
  17. That is an amazing photo of a truly amazing cloud formation. It looks malevolent and scary like something out of the Wizard of Oz.
  18. As I've often said and had said to me, Tackle is designed to catch anglers not fish.
  19. John I appreciate the marriage breakdown analogy is flawed and , thankfully, it hasn't happened to me but I would have considered my children and the likely effect on them before being entirely selfish . Whatever I did and whatever the reasons the fall out would only affect a small number of people, maybe 10 and not 17 million plus in the UK alone, the people of Scotland and Northern Ireland and further afield. Brexit is fraught with dangers, unknown consequences and possible catastrophes. Then again it might not but that is my point NOBODY knows. I wouldn't leave my wife without knowing and planning for the consequences which a no deal Brexit patently does not. We will never agree as views are polarised.
  20. We are not run by Europe and never have been. I'm not aware of us importing coal from Europe and the demise of our industry( very sad) was largely due to the creation of the clean air act and smoke free zones and in no small way down to Scargill and his cronies thinking they ran the country. I accept fully that when we joined there were 6 countries and now there are 28. Some of the basic principles of membership just don't work with 28 countries of which at least half do not contribute much yet have an equal say. The EU will struggle without us and the likes of Malta, Cyprus, Slovakia, Croatia and many others cannot even collectively, make up the shortfall. I dislike the beurocrats in Brussels who just do not learn but on balance we are better off in than out . I would accept Brexit but only with a deal. See my analogy above. We are too inextricably mixed with Europe to just leave without any agreement on preserving many good aspects of membership- no roaming fees, health service support, freedom of movement, labour laws, double taxation treaties etc. We cannot even pull up a drawbridge; we don't have one.
  21. The 17+ million people who voted leave were never asked about the terms of any departure and not told about the probable consequences. The 17- million people who voted to remain will be disenfranchised by a no deal Brexit, lose jobs, and face a most uncertain future. Scotland and Northern Ireland voted to remain so will be most dischuffed when we do without a deal. You can leave your wife /husband quite easily by packing a bag and leaving. However you will have to deal with the family home, the custody and access to children, the division of assets, pensions as well as the emotional and financial turmoil you will cause. People do it but it often ends in tears with children badly affected for ever. This analogy only affects you and your immediate family and not millions of people, entire countries within the union and future generations. The risible comments of some about not giving a fig about leaving without a deal are beyond belief. The buffoon is in favour but then he has committed adultery, left his sick wife and doesn't know how many kids he has got. Some role model as a father let alone a PM. I hope the leavers can support the remainers when we sink without trace.
  22. I have never caught anything using fake maggots, corn, bread, casters or worm. I suspect that my lack of confidence in them and thus my impatience if I don't catch within an hour, plays a part. Yesterday I tried fake corn and left the bait out for at least 45 minutes without a nibble. The corn was of the floating variety and hair rigged. Exasperated I reeled in switched to a hybrid feeder with a pellet and immediately caught a carp. Are some better than others and do they require a different approach to the real version?
  23. This government doesn't know anything and make rash promises and sound bites . We might not notice any difference on 1st November and I hope that is the case. My concern is if we do as we can do nothing about it. As for the pound slipping to parity then that makes our imports dearer but our exports cheaper and as we all know we export far more than we import with our manufacturing base. I wish!!!!! Unemployment is not good and never was. Job shortages in car washes, nail bars and the like I couldn't care less about but skilled jobs in all areas of the economy are a concern. We welcome the wrong people.
  24. Remember whoever you vote for the Government always gets in.
