  1. I'm also disabled and not a member of the BDAA or the AT. I also disagree with you. In a lot of cases to build and maintain access for the disabled would be to disfigure the country side. My feelings are is that its down to the individual angler to make a choice. Chose venues that suit you. This attitude is already prevalent in every angler in the country. Fuelled by the cost of the fishing, cost of travel and time taken to get to that venue. No doubt others can give more reasons. My passion is river fishing, I have 3 venues 1 I can drive to all pegs on good third of that stretch. 2 This venue is actually run by a disabled club. 3 I have access to 2 stretches one where I can park by over 75% of the pegs. The other where I can access 4/5 pegs easily and still catch good fish.
  2. This is a good rod. A bit heavier action than the Fenwick. http://www.cheshirefishing.co.uk/shop/spidercast.htm
  3. I used a section of piano hinge to make some swingers. I cut up old umbrella ribs and soldered these to one side of the hinge. To connect to the thread of a buzzer an electrical earthing clip was used.
  4. I'm a disabled angler. My problem is walking any distance. Some clubs give a reduced cost to disabled anglers others dont. I cant say anything about commercial fisheries as I dont fish them. What I can say about clubs is this. I choose the club/s, day ticket waters etc., that suit my disability and chosen branch of the sport. To be honest I fail to see why ALL waters should have disabled facilities. Some would be ruined by having roads stages etc built. I also wonder how rivers can be provided with disabled facilities to. Unless the disabled pegs are positioned directly on any car parking area. Yes there provided BUT would they be worth fishing?
  5. Can some one explain to me why lock knives are so badly thought of by authority? I have 2 I use for fishing, the main reason being there safe so I cant cut my self on a self folding blade.
  6. I had some great neighbours. If we were in the garden he would be hiding behind the bedroom curtains spying on us. One evening we were visited by the local plod. Seems he had made a complaint of excessive noise from us. The cause of this noise was my wife cleaning out the rabbit hutch. The noise actually being caused by using a plastic brush and pan. The copper took less than 20 mins to arrive driving 8 miles from the station. It was 7pm when my wife cleaned out the hutch.
  7. I used to use a pair of neoprene fingerless gloves for fly fishing in March. My hands were constantly wet from stripping back the fly line. They still stayed warm. Neoprene is waterproof but its the very thin layer of water it traps next to the skin that is quickly heated by the body that provides the warmth. Thats the principle of a wet suit. A dry suit requires thermal under layers to work.
  8. I used some perspex sheet cut to size to pad out the octoplus fittings on my Shaky box. The stuff used was salvaged from old toffee display units.
  9. Before I retired I suffered severely from migraines. What you described was the sort of thing that could set off an attack. One of the other causes was the sun reflecting off ripples. Not a good thing for an angler. The best remedy I found was to wear poleroid sunglasses.

  11. We had similar problems. No problem getting the part needed BUT it needed to be programmed. I then found out that this was particularly tricky even by a professional. So the best and cheapest option a new machine.
  12. PVA mesh, do not hook it through the knot. Instead hook through the mesh twist and re insert hook. The knots will take a long time to dissolve. Braid is inherently buoyant. so a spit shot can be placed on the braid or better still a sinker can be used. Some braids are designed to sink, a lot depends exactly what you want it to do. As to the size and colour of the leger, I dont like the natural finish so use camo coated leads. Some go as far as stonz weights. Again a matter of preference.
  13. Will they be paid at a higher rate commiserate with a degree?
  14. My wife worked for a national chain of supermarkets, She witnessed on several occasions shop lifters being arrested. I'm talking here of special multi pocketed jackets being worn by them. full of spirits. They were not taken down the "nick" they were released at the store.
  15. What annoys me is the status given to immigrants. They jump council queue's for house's. They are allowed one full year of no tax, yes I know we would get the same benefit if we emigrated to an EU country. They get benefit's straight away. For some strange reason the police seem to treat them with kid gloves. Locally quite a few arrested for shop lifting have been released with out charge? Do we actually need them? We are a small island with very limited space for population. In fact would a reduction in population serve us better?
  16. Here you go http://www.wychwood-carp.co.uk/ Dont blame me on the quality of the site
  17. Thanks for the replies all sorted now.
  18. I dont know if its my settings or a change to the forum? Originally when I opened a topic I could just scroll down and read all the replies. Now I get the original post and in a box below is listed all the replies. I have to click each one and open it to read it. It obviously makes it longer and more annoying to do this. So much so its not worth the effort.
  19. Some tackle shops, most pet shops or animal feed stores will have it.

  21. A very similar recipe. One tube of anchovy essence Sainsbury's Ground up pellets Soya flour Semolina 3 eggs 1 teaspoon cooking oil. To the eggs add the oil and anchovy essence and beat. Then add the dry ingredients at a ratio of 2 tablespoons pellet to 1 of soya and 1 of semolina. Mix to a firm paste, roll and boil for up to 2 mins.
  22. I will stand corrected if wrong. My understanding of the law is that a statute is put on the books. It actually means nothing till its challenged in a court of law. The out come of this trial is called Case Law. Its what the lawyers then refer to when further cases come to trial
  23. As an ex canoeist, I can relate how other canoeists regarded the law. A "navigable" river was able to be used providing that public access to that river was available. i.e. a road or footpath. On a river not designated a navigation or above the upper limit. Written permission of the land owners was required. If caught by the landowner the shortest route to a public road was to be used to exit the river. Thats not to say that many rivers are run in the winter by canoeists without this permission. The term used for such runs is a bandit run. A term which speaks volumes I think.
  24. The Red Industries site is at Burslem, the sewage entered the river at Strongford Bridge. These two locations are miles apart in fact opposite sides of the city. So my question is are the two related or seperate incidents? If separate are STWA trying to hide a breach of discharge into the R Trent?
  25. I bought my last pair of "zingers" from Poundland. I use them to keep a pair of forceps handy. I have looked around a lot of tackle shops and quite a few keep at least one type in stock. Belt clip, safety pin and crocodile type clip fastening. I do like then having used one for over 30yrs, but I wouldnt pay the price you are asking.
