Tench dont fight when hooked, your having a laugh either that or the tench your hooking are dead. I have been an avide tench fisher for a long time now and can tell you tench "ALL TENCH" yes even the little ones (1lb ish) fight like fury. If your fishing with carp gear (2 1/2 test curve rod, 15lb line and big baitrunner then they would be easier to land, but they will still fight.

Newt thanks for that, could have bin brought over by the vikings, old breed then. With the rat increasing in numbers in the UK perhaps a few over here would be a good idea.

Newt, we brought our children up much the way you seem to have with yours. Kids have got to be "STREET WISE" even more so these days and its our job to ensure that they are enlightened to both sides of everything. Not always possible i know but good communication and not ignoring it, (hoping it will go away) is always the best way i think. Good question though.

I think we have got to give John Wilson some credit for bringing fishing onto the TV. By the viewing figures the TV stations were shown that with the right person, we will watch it. This opened up the way for Matt. Both in my opinion bring something to fishing and the fishing population. Its surprising how many people that don't fish but actually are keen to watch fishing programmes!

Bet most young people today would not know where to start making a cake.(do they still do domestic science at school?) Used to be part of growing up, tasted better, my kids used to have great fun making cakes using all the food colouring we had in the cupboard, not only for the icing but the cake mix as well. looked horrible but tatsted great!
