  1. Very funny .... and not so far from the truth!
  2. Tissue samples are a different matter than whole organs. In the unfortunate case of an infant dying, there may be no choice in tissue samples being taken for the PM. However I believe it is quite wrong to take organs without permission and the hospitals in question have to suffer the consequences. That's assuming what we we are being told by the media is actually true!
  3. I was lucky enough to catch my first pike off a tiny island in a semi saltwater Archipelago in Sweden. The best fish was only 5lbs, but it was a fantastic place. We also caught perch and a few metres off shore we jigged for cod, catching them to about 7-8 lbs! I never knew where that place was. It was about two hour drive from Stockholm. It took us about 30 mins on a small boat to get to the island. Three youngsters of 14 in charge of a boat - doubt that would be allowed these days!
  4. So that's where Nashville is. Cheers Newt!
  5. I should have qualified my statement. What I meant was : "It doesn't usually cost any less if you are paying some-one else to build it." As Gillies pointed out, you need to watch your warranty and also if the person or company doing it is likely to remain trading. Mesh, which I posted a link to, are recognised as making very good PC's with quality components. Because they offer very flexible configuration, they are nearly offering a custom build service, although you don't get to select the make of most components. [ 25. 6. It doesn't usually cost any less. The main advantage is you can mix and match components exactly as you wish. However the better PC companies like Mesh and Evesham also allow you to do this, and even sell you a PC only without a monitor and keyboard, etc. See here. As to what spec you need and the cost, it's best to come at it from a different angle. Tell us everything you want to use the new PC for and we can suggest what spec and then the price falls out from there. Do you want to play top of the range games and edit high quality audio and video, or do you just want the Internet and a word processing. For most people it's in between. Consider any future plans too.
  7. quote: I was planning on fishing the Don at Sheffield I'm afraid that's nowhere near me, but I assume you know it has a good head of chub. If you don't, some-one on here must know. If it's only got a small head of chub, then it can be a bit disheartening if it's you first taste.

    Google

Yahoo search is currently powered by google, although I think yahoo are looking at building there own some time.
  9. Incredible!! Is that a real set of pics?
  10. If it's 'the right kind of river, then yes'. What rivers are you able to fish?
  11. I thought our Government was meant to represent us, not do what they like! What's wrong with them? Do they honestly think they are acting responsibly?
  12. That's because a PC doesn't connect to the Internet in a bivvy! [ 23. January 2004, 08:19 AM: Message edited by: Lid ]
  13. My condolences to all his family and friends.
  14. Done. What a bunch of misguided individuals.

    Chub record

The original question asks whether this chub is a proper record because it came from a lake and was caught ‘accidentally’. I apologise to Wordbender as I got a little confused with the different arguments being raised by different posters. I think Wordbender's own argument says it does not count as record simply because the tackle is too strong and no skill is used to lure it, nor land it, but not because it was accidentally caught. I already said what I think about chub in lakes and accidental capture. However personally I would be unlikely to claim any record because of the involved claim process and possible circus to follow. However ask me again when I've netted that record chub, lol.

    Chub record

quote: originally quoted by wordbender A 'record' roach on carp tackle? Nothing more than a statistic - and angling means more to me than that Tell that to the fish though. Perhaps carp anglers need to put a sign on their baits saying "Carp only". What happens if you catch a record carp on roach tackle then? Is this an 'unsporting' claim too because you weren't carp fishing?
  17. Can some-one please explain to the uninitiated what actually happened please?
  18. I find this is a real problem, especially since lead shot was replaced. I try to use silicone tube over the line for AAA and over. For smaller shot, I only just pinch them on hard enough to stay in place with my fingers. I have also found that there is one particular brand of shot that is superior to all the others I tried. It's not Dinsmore, I just can't remember what it is. I think it's by Middy. I have also had my line snap (4 lb b/s) at a plastic ledger stop that I had had put on a bit tighter than usual. I normally put them on so they only just hold a link ledger in place and I had meant to loosen this one, but forgot. Then I hooked a large river carp and after 2-3 mins of churning up the river, the line snapped right at the stop!!

    Chub record

So what if he was carp fishing. Chub are fish and they eat baits! As to chub in lakes, they seem to thrive in still waters, present either naturally through flooding, etc. or introduced. How many of these monster carp that people target are 'natural' wild fish I wonder? To be honest it's would be more appropriate not to claim the carp record if it gets broken by one of these reared fish.
  20. I don't feed my lobs with anything else but the tomato compost which seems to be fine. If you can't get them from your tackle shop, you can get them mail order from here.
  21. Can anyone tell me the best and cheapest way have mobile internet access on a laptop please. Presumably you need a mobile phone and service provider, some cables and a compatible PC card in the laptop. However how do you actually set it all up and how do you keep the call costs down? The laptop in question will be used to access the internet in a small boat around the British coast.
  22. I think one of the reasons the shop ones are so expensive is that they are imported from Canada where they are regarded as pests for some reason. Certainly the packs of 10 in my tackle shop have some French writing on the tubs. Kendo - what I do when I buy a tub of 50 worms is re-soil them. I use a 50/50 mix of garden soil and wetted and squeezed tomato compost. I then keep them in the top of the the fridge, where it's warmer, or in the garage if it's winter. They keep very well like this. If I've still got some left after about 6 weeks, then I re-soil them again.
  23. Lobworms can be collected relatively easily from large grassy areas like sports fields at night after a good rain. However personally I do not have time to collect them. It's much easier to buy 50 (£7). I find I can keep them for up to 8 weeks or more too.
  24. Did it go OK John? Have you eaten it yet?
