  1. A rake! I'd rake the swim - scares off the carp and attracts in the tench. And don't think you've got to wait hours for the tench to turn up - I've OFTEN had them within minutes of raking - in fact will often throw the rake out 'mid-session' if things have gone a bit quiet!!! Chris
  2. Newt - I take it that's a meal for one!!! Chris
  3. There once was an angler from Stoke Who saw a huge carp from an oak He viewed it, agog, Thought 'I must get my rod' But then slipped, fell in, and got soaked! Chris [ 21. February 2003, 08:28 PM: Message edited by: Chris Plumb ]
  4. You need a licence (which is free) for catching them in Thames region. Tis illegal (ATM) elsewhere. Regulation of Fishing for Crayfish Chris
  5. No bloke's gonna fondle MY pin... Chris
  6. ARRRGGHHH!! - This is the third time in a fortnight we've had this... See here & here Chris
  7. By golly you're right Steve - It was recognized by the American Scientist Dr. Ted Fujita (who devised the F-Scale) that the UK has more tornadoes per unit area than any other country in the world. Apparently 'we' average 33 per year with the maximum recorded in recent years of 150 in 1982. Many more per square mile than the US - just thankful we don't get (m)any biggies!!!! Chris
  8. No, but I've just learnt that my Witcher is nearly finished. What's the betting I don't get my mits on it before the 14th March? Chris
  9. They're thankfully rare and nothing like the ones you get generated by the 'super cell' thunderstorms out on the plains. If someone lost a roof to one over here it would be news-worthy Chris
  10. Whenever I want a smile (belly laugh more like) I have another visit here - unintentionally hysterical. Chris
  11. I think Clive's stopped making them. A mate of mine had one from his last batch last year. Chris
  12. I expect you'll get a few replies to this! (Glen is probably tapping away as I type )Many pin users, of which I'm one, swear by them especially for trotting on the rivers. I love to fish this way adds to my enjoyment and to my catches! I guess there are a couple of options open - one is to get a cheapish reel like a Leeds and see if you like it another is to borrow a set up for a day. Be warned however Centre-pins themselves can be somewhat addictive. Chris
  13. The little buggers can now clone themselves... Nature Chris
  14. I use them a lot (1st choice bait) on the Kennet in the summer for barbel. Also catch a fair few chub and bream with 'em. So yes they work - have been using them for the last 2 or 3 seasons, now a bait I have complete confidence in.... Chris
  15. Don't look like much change in your neck of the woods... 5 Day Forecast for Norwich Chris
  16. Firstly a warm welcome to AN. I don't think you'll find many (any) who moan at youngsters purely because of their age. Treat folks with respect and you'll get treated similarly. As for learning - well you've come to no better place. I've almost certainly learnt more about angling from the 'net in the last 5 years than from 25 years of bankside experience. (I'm over 40 BTW ). So ask a good question and I guarantee you'll get a whole range of good answers. Welcome again - I hope you enjoy your stay (and your angling!) Chris
  17. Well everyone's gotta make a living - I reckon he thought he'd pick up a bit of business it being half term 'an all... Chris [ 18. February 2003, 08:08 AM: Message edited by: Chris Plumb ]
  18. Alas any fines are likely to be pathetically low. Look here for recent court cases. Chris
  19. Chris - MANY THANKS - your a star! Chris
  20. Yeah - pretty much agree with Spindle - I'm not into carp. Books are a good idea as are floats and bits of terminal tackle. Flys/nymphs for the fluff chuckers. What about day tickets for some fisheries (especially river ones!). Line (I'm looking for some cheap fireline in 4lb BS ATM!!!). Oh and my waders have just undergone their 4th repair - next leak and their history! Chris
  21. Well it IS Valentines Day... Love is in the Air Chris
  22. Got mine on line for the last two years - applied for a direct debit one this year.... Chris
