  1. "The term "Hobson's choice" is often misused to mean a false illusion of choice, but it is not a choice between two equivalent options, which is a Morton's fork, nor is it a choice between two undesirable options, which is a dilemma. Hobson's choice is one between something or nothing." In that case, I guess we got ourselves a dilemma.
  2. The way IP addresses are assigned these days, it is certainly possible that two or three posters different posters could be assigned the same IP address at slightly different times. It is also possible that I could win the lottery more than once. Possible but HIGHLY UNLIKELY so that assuming two posters using the same IP is bogus and that they were the same person/computer using two different names is a pretty safe assumption. I'll be happy to go into detail about IP assignments using IP version 4 if you wish but it will be very boring for most folks. If we ever manage to switch over completely to IP version 6 which has enough IP addresses to permanently assign one to every person and device now in existence, it will move from "highly unlikely" to "damned near impossible". That would certainly make life a bit easier on us moderators.
  3. Just glad to have you with us. You'll get the hang of it soon enough. When I first started here I didn't even notice I was in the wrong country and on the wrong side of the pond where the fishing styles and even most of the fish were unfamiliar.
  4. Hi and welcome to Anglers' Net. Sorry, I don't know the area but there are almost certainly others on here who do and can offer suggestions. I tweaked your title a little and moved the post to the Coarse section where it will get more looks.
  5. Moved from the New section to a more appropriate location.
  6. I sometimes wonder if the top level theoretical physicists are still human. I almost hope not since if they are, I'm afraid I class as sub-human.
  7. Hi Martin. When you start a topic there is an option on the right side to "follow this topic" you can check. It is unchecked by default and the name isn't particularly informative but it will do what you want.
  8. Might be a bit cool to make for a comfortable holiday. In any event, the trip there would be quite expensive. So No - I won't try it.
  9. Hi Lee and welcome to Anglers' Net. Hopefully someone will come along soon who is familiar with that water. I'm way too far west of there to have ever fished it.
  10. Hi and welcome to Anglers' Net. If you'd like to participate in the forum then welcome. If you only came to advertise (spam if not solicited) then this isn't the place for you.
  11. Nutcases come in many different flavours and some are quite pleasant. This particular fellows reminds me more of durian.
  12. 15 it apparently is (based on my having to approve Martin's 13th). I may be getting senile and its always remained 15 or else its raised back to that number. That could be the forum software's default and an upgrade reset it back to the high number. Elton and Si do the software work so I'll just plead ignorance.
  13. LOL. For me these days, fishing is pretty much the best fun I can have with clothes on OR off.
  14. Good info Martin and thanks. I just spotted your post and approved it so yes, everyone can see it now.
  15. Hi and welcome to Anglers' Net (or welcome back - not sure which applies here). You'll be able to add a sig along with using other forum features after 15 approved posts. Annoying but necessary as a way to deal with spammers.
  16. Yup - well, pretty close but not enough to consider it actual plagiarism.
  17. It may be that some sports have age limits but as far as I can tell, most of them do not.
  18. Now that's some impressive weather photos. Thanks for the link.
  19. LOL - very most excellent.
  20. I really enjoy televised sports - at least some of them - and happily watched those of the US qualification events that were shown. Then the actual Olympics started and WOW - overload. NBC (National Broadcasting Company), has exclusive US rights to the initial broadcasts of all the events and will accumulate over 6700 hours of televised Olympic events from opening to closing.
  21. Note to all: Many of us have strong opinions on this situation and should be allowed to express those opinions. If you disagree with someone feel free to express that but please avoid attacking the one who made the comment.
  22. PM won't function until after his 15th post.

    Hillary?

Get rid of him in favour of Ms Clinton? Sorry but I, at least, don't think so. Almost anyone else and I'd agree but since its him or her, I just can't do that.
  24. Best of luck to you and I'd love to hear how you get on. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_bream
  25. Hi and welcome to Anglers' Net. If you are in the UK you are pretty much out of luck as far as keeping fish for the table. Mostly it isn't allowed other than on some very pricey trout streams. Also, "bream" is a totally different species of fish than the US sunfish and probably not fit to eat even if it were allowed. Same with the Wels catfish and there aren't any channel or blue cats over there. If your Durham is in the States (North Carolina for instance), you will be in pretty good shape. If its in the UK, I'll be happy to give you a quick overview of how the fresh water UK fishing rules differ from the US. Just post the question in the Coarse section of the forum. I'll leave the specific "how to" for fishing over there to the UK folks since its way too different from what I am used to and I doubt I would ever catch a fish in the UK without expert help.
