  1. only in America !! bit like the Aussies though isnt it.... and thats enough said
  2. Budgie i can see your point matey and mybe the posts werent explained properly. right then the know on the leader to main line is a very small and neat know (if tied correctly, sadly i have no diagrams) line passes through the rig tubing, now unless your rig tubing is super thin and im talking maybe 1mm in diameter, which to my reconning the thinnest diameter is 2-2.5mm any knot will pass throgu this What i would like to point out is that should the line break (whether that be main line or leader) there wont be any problems with the rig being pulled safely through the tubing. the chances of a 35lb leader snapping though is slim, unless your fishing over razor mussels! ive had 35lb quicksilver on my rigs for while now, to be used in areas of snags as a leadcore leader isnt up for the job! the whole safety issue can rage on for a long time, i think if you stick to a tried and trusted rig then there should be any problems or worries. personally i dont use rig tubing any more and use a running lead ontop of the leader. I have hoped its gone a way to explaining it. if not then i apologise now
  3. agreed with the above, the shockleader will be alotlonger than your tubing, as trying to wind 20ft of tubing onto your reel is a little bit dodgy lol you could even get away with using 6ft of quicksilver/flourocarbon and only 2ft of tubing !! eother way your tubing shouldnt be longer than your leader
  4. well said severn wolf! i fished Shatterford about 10 years ago and it was an up and coming water then especially for the cats, sadly the place is rammed every weekened, and during the week, featureless isnt the word!! The stuarts pool had a nice margin shelf i picked cats up on but apasrt from that i wouldnt bother! likewise with Larford lake, a pukka lake about 10 year ago 30acre now its a mere shadow of its former self
  5. straight from the tin (although not taking the tin to the bank bag it up before use) either cut into cubes and push the hook through the meat then turn the hook round on itself and press back in to the meat or roughly ripped apart place into a plastic freezer bag and a add a cap full of flavouring/additives and shake for a bit! casting meat with no hair rig is quitetricky as it doesnt stay on the hook very well, you can look to bag it up in PVA bags as the oil content wont melt the PVA (or at least thats what i am lead to believe )
  6. why use a corn flavoured boilie when Corn will do the job just as good ? it suprises me these bait companies come out with Sweetcorn flavoured boilies and luncheon meat flavoured boilies! WHY?? when the original stuff is just as effective ! might sound like a gripe but as they say the baits are there to catch the anglers, personally i wouldnt use a luncheon meat flavour boilie, prefer to bag up a few small cubes and free line it in the margins but again it comes down to personal preference and the sort of swim your fishing i suppose!
  7. nice one matey !! if you can get into them whacking great big commons then we will expect to see your mug shot in the angling press a great lake, but sadly i know nothing about the swims etc...
  8. have you thought of banksticks?? you can position the rods better with banksticks Ive got two Prodigys and they sit great on the Steve Neville alarms and stainless as they probably would with most bank sticks and alarms
  9. typical too latwe ! even for a MHL junkie like myself ! gutted !! can you popst again when you do the next MHL John ! you and the rest of the cast are legends !!! Chesh - North West MHL junkie !
  10. best way to fix a boilie would be via a simple hair rig matey !! best recipe? how longs a peice of string? various different manufacturers, base mixes, flavourings, additives etc.. How to fish with a boilie? again its what you feekl best doing, some people might adives to use a kilo of freebies some might not use any and use single high attract hookbaits. If i may be a little bit presumptious here but are you a newbie to carp fishing? what i would suggest is buy some pre-tied rigs from the local tackle shop, buy a bag of readymades off the shelf and go to the local lake and try out variousthinghs. when you become confident in your ability (not meaning to sound harsh) then maybe attempt to make your own rigs. took me 3 months before i tied my own rig etc.. keep everything simple ! this thread could go on for ages ! advice, as mentioned keep it simple and dont be afraid to asjk questions to other carp anglers, they wont bite

cheers for that Elton, I can see why heis raving about them now !!!! looks like an order is going to go in as soon as poss
  12. that program arbster was lake escapes and Matty was over in Le Mans but back to the business of the baiting campaign !! if all your getting in the hole is grassies and roach ten its time to move matey ! you could be piling in the feed there and its being scoffed by the afore mentioned grassies !! start baiting margin swims matey if its clear enough! if you can wade safely cut a small swim in the reeds maybe?? only if its extremelysafe to do so and a solid bottom, not silt!! maybe you ccould look at introducing partimix into a few swims, the thing with pellets and particled=s though is Bream love it and will happily sit on top of 5kilo of particles and wolf the lot down expensive way of fidning out too !! tough situation matey to be in and one that probably as no easy answer chick peas might be a good alterntive to boilies sort of same shape and size, might be an idea
  13. personally i would look at baiting margin spots and go stalking hook baited with a couple of worms if the margins are clear and you can get bait on regualr spots then why not? alternatively if you are doing the nights then my guess would be to use single hook baits, probably in the form of as mentioned meat and use big lumps maybe cover it in paste as well and bag it up with pellets. are particles allowed? i know you mention hemp but is it all seed baits?
  14. stoke on trent anglers matey isnt a syndicate but its got some pukka carp waters on its card capesthorne and redesmere to start with along bolesworth castle theres plenty to go at! or are you looking at a syndicate/club with one lake only ? as they are fairly hush hush uphere apart from Farmwood pool but if you can get on that your a luckier man than the rest of us
  15. speak to the locals prior to going down fella ! get an idea of what they are using then maybe have one rod using the bait they are on and then maybe a rod with a completely different bait i.e the fake stuff richworth Tuttis would be a sound bet for the winter though
  16. hello Mr Beef welcome to AN ive got an old (pre 98) Nash Titan which does the job for me and im 6ft 4" can set it at various hieights with the storm poles depending on what swim i am in etc.. most of the time its set just right so i have minimal back strain when i have to get out for one of them pesky carp
  17. what i have found is when tying a D-rig is that when about to heat the tag end of the line, i push it as far through the eye as possible, literally leaving the ring tight againt the shank of the hook then melt the end very gently until i can let the tight line with the ring on go to leave it hanging in the d shape, presentation wise it can have different effects on how much you want the ring to slide up and down the line effective? yes i would say it is, burnt fingers? nah not really

what has he said about them Elton?
  19. GR60 for me aswell although i do like the look of the GR80 as well always nice ESP hasnt done me very proud hence the change away from it, very prone to kinks which is naff for presentation
  20. Get yourself some Steve Nevilles a quality peice of kit if you like ya buzzers small and compact although the general view on buzzers would side with Fox or Delkims, all depends on ya budget really
  21. if thats Trevs of Wilmslow (which it looks liek it is) you wont go wrong at all the guy is a very knowledgable bloke and will point you in the right direction especially with his rods you tell him where your fishing and what you intend on catching and he will kit you out for your budget
  22. prawns over here tend to be used very little IMO unless your after chub using "fishy baits" if someone does use a prawn over here you can bet your bottom dollar it will be frozen and in a pack from sainsburys lol i do know though of some big carp captures using frozen prawns and stalking in the margins so if all else fails....
  23. A good tip is to use a braided main line as it feels the countours of the lake at lot more than normal mono line there are various braids available on the market with PowerPro being my preffered line.
  24. do they show themselves regularly at 9am? if they do then you have found a part of the patrol route try ang build up as much information as you can about fish and there routes, late spring early summer will give you a good idea especially when the water warms up and the fish move into the margins more confidently if you can spot fish in the margins on a regular basis then your onto a winner and you can start pre baiting a few likely looking spots prebaiting by using hemp, particles, crushed and whole boilies etc.. and keep and eye on them. (obviously abide by your club rules on the particle side of things). last summer i tried to visit my lake a few days a week to put bait in, and sure enough after a few weeks of baiting i managed to keep a spot clear and had my only run of the season on this spot Effort = Rewards
