  1. wire links... i have had fuse wire bitten/broken during the take/fight,i know use 30lb easy twist to make wire links, tell ya what billy go gt a fox predator catolouge and have a look at mick browns excellent rig or try here at http://www.mickbrownangling.com i have been experimenting with using poppers actually on the trace. but for the most part i use a small wire link about 2-3 inches long with a crimp at one end and a bead behind it on goes popper, make a small loop at the free end and crimp it,then simply attach to th etop treble's eye with a small speed clip. easy! and it will always come back!
  2. excellent stuff well done, from lower lea valley! i see that article in CF looks good lots of info for any budding barbel angler.thats swim is tight,i love little swims like that! safe from cormarant threat i would have thought.. there being lots of cover

  5. its not worth my life sipadan! if i dont catch my target fish, the its a blank, that perch was a cracker gave a terrific scrap on light gear,a lovely fish and a cosilaion for staying up all night! ricey some of them chub are more like 6-7lb!i kid you not.

  7. well i blanked last nite, well 2 very quick runs both missed,i hate blanks,so inbetween the boredom of waiting for a zed i took some pics, the first is a pound plus stripey i hooked while getting zeds dinner, old zeds cousin stripey gave me a right run around on my light and stupidly soft rod(think winklepickers but softer!,and 1lb summit hooklength! a cracking little bugger, fresh out the mould, god i love predators! and the second is of an out of bounds pool, check out the size of some of these chub...guess anyone!i think they are saying "give it up daffy! we have you surrounded!!"
  8. paul he has a point. once is bad, three times means somethings very wrong,i'm not having ago mate as i said erlier it has happened to me and i sorted it. if you intend to fish for barbel again then you SHOULD learn to control yourself, its not fair on the fish mate.either that or try and analyse the situation more(you have already.. by coming here.-good on ya.) it may just be a snag there, if it is avoid the swim, no matter how temtpting.. if you know you cant land it.. it aint worth it. like i said i'm not having ago at ya [ 29. 10. if you see the size of my german sheperd mate you wouldnt worry either safer there than the shed .
  11. i too am puzzled! i think its you striking paul,i dont strike,90% of the time i have fished for barbel the wallop the rod tip round,i ignore the taps and rattles until it goes...just a case of picking up the rod,i have cat reactions,!yet i have managed to stop striking! the only other thing i can suggest is that theere is some sort of horrendous snag in your swim, but many dont know or wont beleive that 15lb mono is actaully more abraison resistant than most braids bar quicksilver etc-maybe you should try that!? i tell ya what i once got smashed twice in a row,it turned out that the swivels i was using had been used on my wire traces(tight git i know) and i had tied the mono to teh side the wire had been on,roughing up the eye of the swivel,result-instant break. never again!took a while to work out that one. 12. set up everytime! i know what im fishing for before i go,if i want to present a bait difrently to how its already rigged-no problem, just change it. preperation is everything with me,i set up and pack the night before i go.my lure and bait rods are always set up and ready to go.
  13. i admit to being a of an anorak,i tend to take pics of the swim i fished,my rods set up on the alarms etc, especially if i have caught a good fish from there or sometimes jsut because its a nice swim. love it! and they all go in the album to help preserve the memories.
  14. with the temps down/coloured water, now would be a better time to target them with baits,i' wont preach on about summer piking i'll just say this-dont mess about playing them get em in quick, and get back even quicker. oh and good luck fella.
  15. nice chevins fellas, good clear pics too.
  16. the arguments i have had on this one!! my gear goes in the porch, not the shed i hate the shed, its damp, full of basty critters etc my mum hates my gear being in the porch, but i a quick word-move it and break it-you pay for it!-works everytime! my other bits, like leads and my chubbing bits etc stay up stairs in my room in a big plastic bosx with a lid(cheap pound store ones) the porch!-soon to be home to some tasty drennans!
  17. fantastic!! well done matt and co bagging mini clarissa's! only one gudgeon! damn...i told you matt would get done like a kipper! lovely photos place looks very atmospheric, who is the nutter in red up in that tree!
  18. lol i was talking about these last night with a mate, funky float tubes, can see myself cruising down my local river/canal almost getting smashed by narrowboats every five minutes!
  19. nice one dude! i'm on the case the weekend, throwing lures tommorrow!nighting it sunday!
  20. i was lokking at the jrc and shimano bum buddies, they look good for roving for chub, but i fish on a canal like river so it wouldnt be much use if it was wet,or on a towpath etc so i carry my fox adjusta chair and minamal tackle, nice and light easy to move..easier to find chub!
  21. dont laugh dean i go fishing by train, underground and over,i carry a fair size realtree rucky, plus my quiver holdall,i got looks beofre all this went off now i dont bother i cage lifts saying that tho i went out the sat after the first attacks one the train...cant let the bastards grind you down.
  22. just woke up from me night shift, so they got one(if he is a bomber),well done to the old bill, you cannot mess about in that situation,if the suspect is told stop, lay down arms outstretch etc and they dont comply-shoot them, especially if theer is the very real possibilty he is carrying explosive and can detonate at will. police marksmen are taught to take out suspects with chest shots,a chest wound will put,you on your back, but it wont nessarcerry kill you.shoot to kill as said is-head shots. rounds differ too as mentioned,9mm ofr the H&K MP5(current police issue) unlike army 5.56mm(british SA80 rifle or yankee M16)rounds or the 7.62mm(AK47 rifle)round both of wich cause alot of damage, the 7.62 particuarly so,the 9mm is softer doesnt richochette as much either. hollow points are the one to put someone on ther back.
