  1. I wonder if Gary Glitter will sign up?
  2. Word also has a kind of document called a 'Form' where users can only type in the fields you specify, which leaves the rest of the document unalterable. Which version of Word would be good for you?
  3. Hi Boldbear, Some expert advice here and Sipidan's post has got me thinking I need some of those lures (yet more lures!) From a novice's point of view, I have always favoured ABU Toby's in the past, but in recent years I have had a lot of success with Storm soft baits and Bulldawgs. The Bulldawgs seem ridiculously large at first but they certainly catch pike. These lures are avaialble on the Tacklebargains link on this site. Also, I remove the bottom treble hooks. Good luck.
  4. Hello and welcome, I have fished Lower Broadheath a few times, but never in the winter. I found the fishing pretty good, but it is a commercial after all. I fish a waggler rod, in very close, corn or meat on the hook over pellets thrown in by hand, just a tiny bit of float showing, bait hard on the bottom, keep the rod handle in your hand (front on a rest) because bites are very fast. I found that the last couple of hours of light were easily the best, by this time the fish are on the feed after a hard day's sunbathing and all of the other anglers have gone home for their tea! Keep any wind on your back so you have a nice calm spot in front of you. Had a lot of nice carp and the local bailliff guy was very helpful. It has to be said, although I am a rod and reel man, I once saw a much better fisherman than me totally hammering them on a pole. Good luck, but you might want to wait until the weather warms up a bit.

    Memory

I found this: Installing 4GBs of RAM onto PCs with Windows 32 bit Operating Systems is not advised since 32-bit operating systems do not support 4GBs of system memory. 4GBs of system memory it will not hurt but you will not be able to address it all. You probably will not be able to address much more than 3GB, and you might not be able to address more than 2GB. I assume this means XP and Vista 32 bit versions.
  6. This is a common problem, people buy a computer from their High Street store or from Dell and these computers never come with a Windows disk. The answer is to buy a barebones computer from Dabs or Novatech etc. and buy your own copy of Windows as well. I keep all my files in one folder (My Documents) then when I feel like a fresh install I just copy My Documents, Favourites and Desktop to my external USB drive, then format my drive, re-install Windows and then copy my files back. I only use Webmail these days so there is never an issue backing up my email. So, the moral is, don't buy a computer without a Windows disk, IMHO.
  7. Ken, I wish I lived near you so I could come round and help, but I don't. If it was my computer I would use a boot CD with an NTFS driver and XTG to recover your files, so long as your HD was actually not dead. Consider what I said earlier, if your data is critical, unplug your HD so it cannot be written to and maybe think about paying someone to recover your data. I have run out of other ideas mate. Ian
  8. Ken, What exactly is wrong with your old computer? Do you have a mate nearby with an XP desktop? You could set up your old drive as a slave on her machine and recover your data. How important is the data? You'd be surprised by how much you probably don't need it If your data is really, really important, there are companies who will recover it for you (for a fee, of course). Old computers should be allowed to die with dignity. Ian
  9. ken, I have Vista on my desktop and XP on my laptop. I prefer Vista, it seems faster to me and also it's forward looking rather than backward looking, who would go back to 98 now? It's not quite clear, have you formatted the hard drive on your new computer? I hope not. You seem to have two problems, data on an old drive and your TV card. Why not stick your old drive back in your old computer and burn your data to DVD or copy to an external USB stick or hard drive. This would leave you with only one problem, your TV card. try removing all TV card software and drivers and go to Haupage and download the latest Vista software and drivers.......or buy a new (made for Vista) TV card Don't forget installing an operating system means registering it with MS, not so easy if it has been installed on a different machine previously.
  10. Ken, I am a little confused, what hardware and software do you have in total and what exactly is it you are trying to acheive?
  11. Jeepster, I have one of those things from 3. Vodafone and T Mobile also do them. It cost me £50 to sign up for a 12 month contract at £25 a month for a 7GB a month download cap, which is OK. They also do a 1Gb cap for £10 a month and 3Gb cap for £15 a month. A 24 month contract is a fee free sign up (I think). I connect at 0.8mb which is OK. They tell me this will improve. All of their websites have maps showing their coverage which at the moment is mostly confined to major towns and cities. Mobile phone coverage is different to broadband coverage. Doutbtfull if any of them cover remote Scottish (or English) locations. Downside is if you have two or more computers in your house, only one can connect at a time. Upside is you can connect anywhere there is a signal.
  12. That's pretty funny rabbit, but no one (not even Newt) is pulling my strings. Smilie noted in your text. Remember, we may meet one day for a fishing trip
  13. Tend to agree with you there Newt, the Captain's list gets my vote as best list, but there are many other interesting ones. What is interesting is how so many folks have gone up and down (and up again) the ladder. Come on Rabbit, don't be a shy rabbit
  14. Update: I have just upgraded to Vista on this computer, I still have XP on my laptop. By the way I found out the hard way that you cannot upgrade from XP Pro to Vista Home Premium, nice one Microsoft. Vista has replaced Outlook Express with Windows Mail, Windows Mail does not support Webmail servers, not even Microsoft's own. So I have spent £15 on nothing, cheers Microsoft, nice one. Microsoft Livemail is not bad but on reflection it seems from what others have said here, Googlemail may be the way to go.
  15. Great pictures, we can build great stadia (sp?) and all of that but we just can't score enough goals, although I thought Croatia deserved to win. My own opinion, for what it's worth, is that we have to stop filling the premiership with foreign players. The answer is not to keep sacking the manager but to address the root of the problem...am I ranting? just bugs me, is all. Oh well, lots of time next summer for cutting the grass etc. ZZZZzzzzzz......
  16. I pinched the idea for this thread from another topic (thanks Newt) Here is a list of all the jobs I've ever had. I have been in full time employment since I was 15 years old. In fact, it's not until the fourth item on the list that I hit 15, imagine kids nowadays reading this. I am now in my fifties and I've never had a longer break from work than three weeks (leave). I've never been off sick for more than a week. My career through life has not exactly been exalted, but it has been interesting. I'd be interested to read other member's lists. Paperboy Window Cleaner Butcher's Boy Nursery Worker (plants) Builder's Labourer/Teaboy Royal Navy, Engine Room Branch (saw 'action' in the Cod War) Drawing Office Worker Betting Shop Worker Petrol Station Worker Machine Operator Kitchen Porter/Chef's Assistant Policeman (long time) Civil Servant (secondary role as an amateur computer breaker)
  17. Is that a fact Greg? Do you think that someone actually said that if you shoot at someone you must make sure you aim to kill them? Like a head shot or something? I thought that training was to target the central body mass? Gibralter was different (and I am not defending that). But is there any evidence to support that British soldiers or the RUC were trained to shoot in a manner that would make death a certainty? I am not saying this from any kind of political perspective and I am certainly far from anti-Irish but I am curious why Irish people might think that the British had a shoot to kill policy...Corporal Clegg excluded.
  18. 1) It's not unlimited, my inbox is 10GB which is pretty enormous. I believe Yahoo email is unlimited, not sure if you can use Outlook Express but their Yahoo email beta is supposed to work just like an email client, I think, I believe Hotmail Live Email is similar. Perhaps others here can tell us more. Yes, with the Hotmail upgrade for £15 a year you get a full POP and SMTP account. 2) Your emails from Hotmail will get through, regardless of your ISP. Yes, stop accessing your old email address, it has been compromised, get over it In Outlook Express go to 'Tools' then 'Accounts' then 'Mail' select your ISP email account then click on 'Remove' You will never be bothered with spam from your old email address ever again. To change ISp you need to contact your current ISP and tell them you want to close your account and ask them for your Migration Authority Code (MAC) then you need to contact your new ISP and give them the MAC code, it usually takes 2-3 weeks although some on this forum have managed this much sooner, some guys at work have told me of it having taken much longer, I think the system is getting better as more are doing it and ISPs are getting more with the program. But why bother? stop using your ISP for email and your problems are solved. 3) I have no idea what Orange mean by a pay-as-you-go email address - hotmail, yahoomail, Gmail are totally free. 4) www.hotmail.co.uk
  19. I wouldn't be without my USB hard drive, no power supply needed with this one, it's like a giant USB stick. Free Agent USB drive
  20. Hi John Have a look here, it is a snapshot of my Outlook Express. As you can see, you keep all your old Inbox, Sent Items etc. and Hotmail creates new ones just for Hotmail. I am very pleased with it and I never bother these days with ISP email accounts and phoning their un-help desks. Hope this helps, Ian
  21. Who is Laura Bell? Is she a virgin? Have you got her number?
  22. Disks in the post? Can you believe it? Anyway, the biggest risk (apparently) is if you are receiving child benefit and you have used any of your kid's names as passwords or their birthdays as pin numbers in any of your bank accounts (or any other accounts), you need to change them quickly.
  23. Tricky, does Orange provide webmail? Can you get your email that way? Does your SMTP (outgoing mail) work? have you tried a different email client, such as outlook Express?
  24. Try changing the pop server name in your email account settings, all of these should work: pop.freeserve.net pop.wanadoo.co.uk pop.orangehome.co.uk Remember, you must be connected to the Internet through Freeserve/Wanadoo/Orange to use their mailservers. If you recently changed ISP, you cannot use your old ISPs mail servers. Ian
