  1. Just curious Darren, what makes you think that?
  2. Hello Colin, Nick is definitely your man, but in the meantime....your friend needs to contact the webmaster and find out three things: 1. Who hosted the site 2. The username 3. The password But the domain name may have been taken by someone else if it has lapsed. If the webmaster cannot be contacted then your friend is in a tricky position and could perhaps consider a different domain name. Others here have tons more knowledge than me and will hopefully reply soon. Ian
  3. ....I nearly forgot, if you really want to take control of year email accounts, get yourself a domain name. Involves a small monthly fee though.
  4. I have found that using the email address supplied by your ISP to be a pain. If it gets compromised by the spammers you are stuffed because ISPs won't let you change it. Also, if you change ISP you lose that address. I now use Hotmail and very good it is too. For £15 a year to upgrade you get to use your own email client (such as Outlook Express) or you can just use the Webmail, and the beauty is you keep the same email address if you change ISP. Also, if your Hotmail address does get found by the spammers you just create a new account and send an email to all in your 'Contacts' and tell them your new address. As Yorkio says you need to also update all the sites like ebay, paypal etc. where you have registered your email address. Changing ISPs is not difficult but it means being off-line for 2-3 weeks.
  5. Steve, Changing ISP is not a simple thing, first you have to phone Bulldog and tell them you want to close your account and ask for a Migration Access Code (MAC). Once you have that you have to contact your new ISP, tell them you want to open an account with them and give them the MAC. The whole process takes 2-3 weeks, but some people have horror stories where it has taken much longer. If you only surf and upload pictures and you cannot be without a connection, you could consider a dial-up ISP for the transition period. Madasafish.com costs £13.99 a month for unlimited dial-up and has a one month notice to quit policy, so do many others, like BT for example, who offer the first month free. A free hard drive is no biggie, they are very cheap nowadays. My son is with Bulldog and it works seamlessly, why not give them a call and tell them exactly what kind of deal you are looking for? Much easier than changing ISP IMHO. Also, if you move house you have to go through the whole MAC process anyway, even if you stay with Bulldog. So a dial-up account during the house move stage can be a big help. Ian
  6. Si - thanks mate, you have a PM. Elton - more than generous offer mate, thanks. But he has already bought himself a domain name and hosting.
  7. Anyone willing to create a one page website (and possibly promote it) for my son's business? I am prepared to pay a (modest) fee. Just don't have the time (read skills) to do it myself.
  8. Hey Budgie, If you ever catch one of these that turns out to be a 'record', can I recommend a good coating of lemon juice, butter and black pepper, wrapped in aluminium foil and chucked on the barbie
  9. Guys, guys, guys, You are getting all your trouts and tadpoles and bridges confused. There is a Trout Inn on a bridge (NEAR Lechlade Rabbit!) Lechlade Trout Inn A few miles downstream there is another Trout Inn near Faringdon, this is next to Tadpole bridge. Other Trout Inn The Riverside Inn in Lechlade is right next to a distinctly humped back bride (Halfpenny Bridge), I can't find a website for it but this place is in the same yard: Riverside
  10. Thinking about the original question, which British dishes are good and which bad? Good: Roast beef Sunday lunch Traditional full English breakfast Christmas roast turkey dinner with stuffing Fish and chips (got to be from a good chippie on the coast) Mushy peas Shepherds pie British pork sausages Bacon and eggs Bacon sandwich on white bread with brown sauce or tomato ketchup Steak and kidney pie Chicken tikka masala, half rice, half chips, nan bread Donner kebab, (the last two are adopted dishes) Sardines on toast Melton Mowbray pork pies with English mustard Pickled onions A pickled egg in a bag of Walker's plain crisps Kippers and scrambled eggs Fresh crusty bloomer Beans on toast Liver and bacon with onion gravy Quality Cornish pasties Scotch pies Lamb chops with mint sauce Scottish square sausage Oxtail soup Scottish smoked salmon with dill sauce Double egg and chips Scottish bread rolls Irish potato bread (not actually British) Heinz spaghetti on toast Devon cream teas Cornish clotted cream Spotted dick and custard Sherry trifle Welsh cakes Victoria sponge Strawberries and cream Stilton cheese and crackers with port Scotch whisky Real ale Tea Ginger beer Bad: Black pudding (congealed pig's blood and fat} Tripe (cow's stomach lining) Chitlins (God knows, some part of a cow's intestines) Kidneys Haggis (barf) Vegetables (especially cabbage) boiled to death Brawn (boiled pig's head pieces in jelly) Lumpy mashed potatoes, no cream or butter or salt and pepper added Sweetbreads...don't even think about it Steak and kidney pudding British 'pizza' Cockles, whelks and all those other nasty shellfish Jellied eels Cod roe Tapioca pudding Suet pudding English 'mild' cheddar cheese British 'coffee'
  11. Yeah Ken, I just thought I'd kick off the Fireworks thread first this year instead of joining in towards the end PS surprised to hear Jesus is no longer considered to be part of Christmas though
  12. I really admire folks who have fled the UK to live in a (catholic) country like FRANCE, who have never banned anything, and then keep me up to date on what is wrong with the UK. I respect and welcome their opinions.
  13. Fair enough Ken but why do we sell fireworks in our supermarkets? Time it was banned.
  14. Negative rabbit, my furry friend. Steve Walker is the wise one, Lechlade
  15. Catholics are a "cult" are they? Interesting view. Fireworks/yobs the two go hand in hand.
  16. There is only one hump back bridge in Lechlade and that is Halfpenny Bridge, from Swindon you cross it and immediately turn left into a yard that has the Riverside cafe/pub if memory serves. Steve's picture with swans is on the opposite bank looking at cafe/pub patrons! The Trout Inn neither has a hump back bridge nor is it technically in Lechlade. I live 15 minutes away.
  17. Yahoo Why do we celebrate the torture, dismemberment and burning of Catholics? What other group would tolerate this? Why do we have fireworks for sale in our shops? Worst thing Marco Polo ever did was introduce fireworks to Europe. Discuss.
  18. If you guys are planning a get together at Lechlade then I'm up for it.
  19. Wireless networks can be strange things. First of all try connecting with your old USB Broadband modem (if you have one) or you could use an ethernet cable and make a wired network and try that. If the Internet still drops off all the time then you know it is BT's fault. I am now on my third router, a D-Link which works well. I had a Phillips that refused to connect to my ISP and a Netgear that said I was on-line but often would not open any websites, or if it did eventually work, you got half an hour max. If your old broadband modem works OK you could try asking BT for a replacement router.
  20. Lightened that image up a bit Steve. Thames2
  21. Loved that, wonderful pictures, I am off to see Mamma Mia! soon in bristol, can't wait!
