  1. Not a mis spelling but, I was in a sandwich shop a few years ago and a lady asked for a portion of cheese & onion quickie When she finally pointed at what she wanted we all realised that she actually wanted cheese & onion quiche Alan.
  2. Chicken Jalfrezi served with pilau rice and a variety of snacks Alan.
  3. http://www.pandora.com/?cmd=tuner You select the music it plays and no ads Alan.
  4. 2mm I have always left between 12 and 15mm between the bend of the hook and the bait and I have never noticed having more dropped runs or more hook pulls than anyone else, I have been fishing like this ever since the hair rig was publicised and not just for carp either! I have never really read up on the hair and how to fish it in any depth so I have probably being fishing it all wrong for years but it's certainly worked for me. My last 2 trips ( both just day sessions ) have seen me bank 18 carp between 13lb and 19lb 6oz and the following day I banked 20 between 7lb and 16lb and a 2lb1oz roach although I did lose a few due to snags and a couple of bad knots I will be fishing the same long hair this coming weekend but I might just try the shorter hair to see if it makes any difference. Alan.
  5. I totally agree with what you say but the police are not the slightest bit interested if you have someone committing burglary at your property so I can't see them being arsed to go to try and catch poachers! unless of course it was someone with some clout that was making the call Alan.
  6. After seeing your post re the e-book last night I also purchased it, A) To support this site Because I have decided to get back into carp fishing after a long brea and I needed some up to date info. Excellent piece of work Elton, well done to all that took part in putting this together. Alan.
  7. Ant, have you thought about a Austin Maxi the seats fold flat and it should be WELL within your budget Alan.
  8. I have watched it twice and I still can't believe what I saw Alan.
  9. Cometa rifles are ok but if I were you I would spend an extra £20 and buy a BSA Lightning or a Weihrauch HW57 which are both nice quality rifles at a very reasonable price and will last many years with a little care. Try and find a local airgun club where you will be able try before you buy, if you are struggling let me know and I will get some details of local clubs for you Alan.
  10. I do my best not handle fish at all if possible, I do not have a phobia but I seem to remember reading that the heat from a anglers hands can be uncomfortable for the fish as they are cold blooded ( I don't really know how true this is! ) but I now try and leave the fish in the net and hold the fish with the mesh between me and the fish when removing the hook and then I weigh the fish in the net if it's a specimen and then lower the net into the water to allow the fish to swim away. Alan.
  11. I seem to remember that some freelanders ( this could well be the 1.8 as the MG soft top which has the 1.8 engine also suffers with this!! ) suffer from the head gasket blowing due to it being made from steel with a silicone bead that lets go and is very costly to repair. It would have to be the TD Shogun for me Alan.
  12. Welcome to the forum mate, it looks as though you are doing something right with yhe catches that you have had so far Alan.
  13. As BUDGIE says, chick peas take most flavours and colours quite readily but I have always done well with red colouring and scopex flavouring. Alan.
  14. In the past I have had success with various bread, cheese and and meat based pastes but I have found that the boilie mix based pastes are by far the easiest and most successful as they are easy to make and they take flavours and colours without any trouble and are very easy to get to the right consistency every time. You can always boil a few samples too just in case small fish become a problem, I recently had a session where small roach ( 4 - 6oz ) were taking paste on a size 6 hook without trouble!! Alan.
  15. Have a look at the Okuma range of reels, they have a good selection of quality baitrunner type reels at very reasonable prices or maybe the Nash outlaw, I also believe that Shimano Aero RE reels now start at below £50 too! If you are wanting a big pit reel, take a look at the Wychwood Maximiser. Good luck Alan.
  16. A shop local to me is selling them for £12 or £10 if you buy 2 at the same time, says everything in my mind! you get what you pay for at the end of the day IF you are lucky that is They are neither a free spool ree ( baitrunner ) or a big pit reel, they are a cheap fixed spool reel which will do a basic workman like job, they are not suited to the Greys rods which are a nice quality tool. Alan.
  17. I think Peter is referirng to tiger nuts which have proved to be a superb bait for carp at the venues where I have used them. Alan.
  18. Have you tried here? http://www.portsmouthdas.co.uk/ Alan.
  19. I fish a few local club comps, in fact I have got one tomorrow A guy at work fished for the England youth team a few years ago in Portugal, I think he was spotted when he won a couple of big open comps, I pressume it's the same for the adult squad ie winning performances in big open comps gets you in to the team selection process. Alan.
  20. I don't know if these are too far away from you? I can recommend Gold Valley, good sized carp can be caught all day long. http://www.goldvalleylakes.com/index.htm http://www.broadlandslake.co.uk/ http://www.cadlandcarpwaters.co.uk/ Alan.
  21. I did just that and I am now looking for new carp gear at the moment I will never sell any more fishing gear unless it is to buy some new fishing gear Alan.
  22. I recently tried the Okuma Sheffield pin and I thought it was well worth the price of £99, it feels like a quality piece of kit and it just runs and runs with the slightest of nudges. I have got a couple of reels costing more than twice the price of the Okuma but had the Okuma been available when I was looking at buying them I would now have at least 1 Okuma Sheffield pin in my collection. I use a Tri-cast John Allerton 15' stick float rod, it just gives me that little bit extra control, not cheap but again it's a quality tool. Alan.
  23. Not Cumbria but just a little further north of the border is a lovely peaceful site with some superb fishing, http://www.lochkenholidaypark.freeserve.co.uk Alan.
