    Bird Flu

I guess I should have used the seach facility on the BBC site.
  3. This morning I logged onto the BBC news site and it was running a tickertape headline saying "Indonesia says current flu outbreak is an Epidemic - more soon". Strangely, more didn't appear on either the mainpage of the health page. Sky news ran a brief article on the birdflu outbreak in Jakarta that's apparently killed 6 since July but that's gone now as well. There are bit's and peices on the Reuters main page but not much. Lets just hope that nothing bad is about to happen..
  4. Scapanapper said "Who is going to care for you when you are sick? Someone elses children. Who is going to dispose of your body when you die? Some one elses children." Well it certanly won't be the children of the lazy, bone idle, dole lifestyle individuals that I was refering to. They'll be at home in there publicly funded council houses watching their publicly funded plasma tellies, rolling joints and spawning kids.
  5. Am I the only person who thinks that child benefit, working families tax credit, additions to income suport for people with kids, free school meals and a plethora of other benefits to encourage the unemployed and the low paid to have more kids is insaine ? I really do believe that if you can't afford kids, don't have them. I resent being told that I'll have to work till I'm 72 in order to pay the taxes to spawn yet another generation of chavs. Actually, where I'm currently living, that's more like Chavdul's and Chavanadabhai's. 6. As a solution to deep hooking, a bar that prevents the fish taking the bait deeply seems a bit extreme - although I'll conceed that it may be necessary. Out of interest, has anyone experimented with circle hooks to try to get jaw hookups ?
  7. What, you mean like this one ? http://www.bigpockets.co.uk/product.php?la...23c72d66f87b8e2
  8. If you have a pre-existing back injury, make sure you you keep it moving and do lots of low impact/low to medium strain exercises for your trunk and do them in all directions. Core excersises like balance boards are also very good. It's vital that you don't overstrain, but more important that you maintain a good strong and balanced muculature to keep the spine supported. I've had three nasty back and neck injuries (two of which resulted in temporary neurological impairement) and the only thing that I can't do with my back is run any distance - after about half a mile, the pounding starts to give me significant backpain.
  9. Release the maggots into the house, wait three weeks and then catch the resulting flies individually prior to use in polination.
  10. No weights, just pressups, situps and a bunch of other excersises using my own body weight. I gave up pumping iron in the eighties when I realised that: 1, it bored the pants off of me and 2, It was seriously slowing down my hand-speed when punching. I can still throw a couple of 18 and 19 stone blokes arround with no problems but I'm not sure about "dead weight" because they're always fighting back.

    Trout or......?

I'd probably go with a small mepps spinner but you need to be aware that you'll need a licence to fish for migratory trout, even if you're fishing the sea - and they ain't cheap.
  12. Remember the simpsons episode with the "Fugu". The trainee chief got out the fileting chart and read off "Poison, poison, poison, poison, tasty fish !" He probably got it wrong, there's way more poison than that.

    Acronyms

In Australia, if there's nothing wrong with an acronym, they keep changing the letters around until there is. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-paci...fic/4263952.stm [ 20. September 2005, 05:39 PM: Message edited by: Ken L ]
  14. I hope Yakerty Yak doesn't see page 9, he'll get ideas.

    Guinness

Guinness production in the UK appears to have stopped and it's now being imported from Dublin. The Irish stuff appears to be lighter bodied and distictly dark brown instead of black. I may be haled as a heretick for saying this but I reckon a well kept pint of English Guinness was better than the stuff we've been getting fron Ireland for the last couple of weeks.
  16. Had a couple of close calls whilst fly fishing on a little brook. Eventually, I gave up and went off to fish away from the nutty flying shrew.

    Crayfish

In Malaysia, there are regular magazines dedicated to catching giant prawns on rod and line and specialist tackle is readily available. They do use very odd shaped hooks for the job and it definatly works because I've seen it done. Try doing a search on malaysia prawn and fishing to see what you can find.
  18. I was going to say Bleak until I read the "12 Pounds" bit. Maybe a "Silver Carp" or a "Bighead Carp" ?
  19. Yes it's annoying to see easilly recognisable clips from "The Blue Planet" being rehashed as new material but it still makes good viweing. It's also MUCH, MUCH better than that dumbed down wildlife murder mystery piece of sh1+e that David Attenborough has got himself involved with recently. He may be old now, but ut's sad to see him sink this low.
  20. As a cycle riding, bus using none car owner, I say "Charge the silly cow with assault". Some idiots seem to think that because they have a "cause", they can attack people (like anglers) with impunity.
  21. This was re-launched recently after a lees than warm reception the first time around. The lack of initial interest wasn't suprising. When I looked at the links on the DirectGov that relare to the SS benefits that I administer, they'd got a bunch of information wrong and three months after I e-mailed them about the error, nothing had been done to put it right. Take anything you se on there with a large pinch of salt.
  22. Viagra (Sold as Senagra) is 104Rs (about £1.25) for 4 tablets in India. At those sort of prices for the raw material and internet sellers flogging the same box of pills for £20, there's no need to flog fake drugs. There is however a LOT of money being made.
  23. They need to drop the level, wait for a nice warm day and then pump in lots and lots cow muck. Oxygen levels will plumit and all the fish should die without the need for nasty chemicals. Alternativly, they could just get a bigger bomb.
  24. Day afta be obvious or I cor seeum.
  25. I had to find another site selling them after a link to John Norris of Penrith failed - hence the edit. A google search quickly came up with the goods but I didn't notice the URL. If I picked up those wellies and someone told me that they cost almost £300, I think my reaction would definatly be "Farkit"...
