  1. Yes he is the Scottish guy who once said that he wanted “anyone except England” to win the 2006 World Cup. Won't be getting my support
  2. Great picture but it looks bloody dangerous to me How the hell do you get out there anyway, low tide ??
  3. Not covinced about the smelly hand theory!! My friend who is a mechanic and smokes cigars like they are going out of fashion, outfished all of us one night at Dengemarsh. He arrived at the venue straight from work, after having his hands imersed in diesel virtually all day, and proceeded to catch 6 good sized bass on consectutive casts, while the rest of us did not have one between us.
  4. Can you give me some more information on this possible road closure. I have fished there, on and off for something in the region of 30 years. It is one of my favourites, particularly Galloways, and about the only place I fish out of choice. i.e. not competiitions. I would gladly send a letter or email, but would like some background information first please. Cheers
  5. Each year the underwriting models become more and more sophisticated which is why you have to provide so much information when applying for quotations. This then allows the insurance companies to filter down to various groupings, and analyse which groups have the worst claims experience. These groups are then charged higher premiums than those with the more favourable experience. This may be because of where they live, their age, their profession and indeed their sex. Whether you can consider women better or safer drivers will always be open to discussion, but like it or not, they produce fewer claims, and are therefore charged cheaper premiums.
  6. You would not get me in one of those any further thatn 20 yards offshore. I think i can swim that far !!
  7. Sorry, was not trying to be to coy. Sailed from Rye, and went out 20-25 miles. Don't ask me in which direction, because you could hardly see your hand in front of your face
  8. With every trip since November cancelled due to bad weather, it was with great surprise I got that phone call Friday evening saying "It's on, pick you up at 7.15am". By 8.30am on Saturday the gear was stowed and we were heading out of the river and into the English Channel. As soon as we had passed couple of inshore fisherman that left just in front of us, the skipper opened her up, and we were flying towards the horizon at 20 plus knots (not that you could see it because of the fog). "Skip says tackle up with 4ft traces and Storm leadhead shads, and be ready for when we get there, as the best fishing will be the first hour or so", came the shout. After a few minutes of tackle box rummaging everybody seemed to be tackled up with some form of lure. Only two of us had the “Storm” lures with the built in leadhead, in our kit, I had two packets! I didn’t broadcast this, as you are never sure how many you are going to loose, but I quietly passed my friend one to rig up with. After about an hour or so of steaming the engines were cut, and the skipper located the wreck. Fist drift and “Bang” into a fish. A few minutes later and a nice plumb Cod of around 4lb came over the side. For the first few drifts the guy next to me had almost a fish a drift, whilst I only had one more. Changed lure to something similar to what he was using, but by now the tide had stopped running and they had gone off the feed. However, as the tide picked up we drifted over a different area of the wreck and I managed to pull in a further five fish, with two dropped on the way up, biggest being around the 8 to 9lb mark. After about three and a half hours fishing it was time to go, flat out, back to port, to beat the tide. All in all, a very good trip.
  9. Then read the thread here! http://www.network54.com/Forum/thread?foru...8&lp=1099132292
  10. Some cracking photo's here! http://www.btinternet.com/~kevin.l.j.knigh...oto-Gallery.htm
  11. Not knocking anybody, but I can never understand why people who are unfortunate enough to find themselves out of work refuse to claim benefits. These same people when employed are quite content to have paid umpteen thousands of pounds in taxation to support a vast army of people who have not worked and have no intention of working.
  12. quote: In October 2003 there were a record number of cod in the English Channel - in fact, there were so many I understand they were almost jumping into the boat. If they were there in October 2003, which I don't remember, they sure as hell are not there now, maybe someone netted them! On our last boat trip, back in November, 8 anglers fishing for 6 hours, NO cod.
  13. If all goes well, weather permitting, should be on a Charter Boat out of Rye, East Sussex on Saturday. Hopefully there are still some Cod out there!
  14. My Father and Brother are both keen Carp anglers, me I'm a "Salty". Now my Dad has retired, he has offered to take me and my Brother on a fishing holiday to France. By popular request it will be a Carping holiday. Gear is no problem, as they have plenty, but the venue must have accomadation, as no one fancies spending the whole week in a bivvy. Do any of you guys have any venues you could reccomend that would be within reasonable driving distance of the Ferry Ports. Cheers.
  15. Have recently purchased both the 20lb class and 50lb class Fladen Maxximus boat rods. Unfortunately due to the weather our last two trips have been blown off, so have yet to have a chance to use them, however they do look the "Muts Nuts". If all things go well should be out tommorrow, from Rye (East Sussex) after the Cod, so will let you now how I get on. If you are interested I got them mail order from http://www.jesseland.demon.co.uk/thetackle...sea_tackle.html which was the cheapest I could find at the time.
