  1. Right here's the situation. There is a small gravel pit just down the road from me that is by no means an actual fishery. By this i mean people fish it but probably aren't supposed to (no-one seems to care anyway). its choked full of weed in the summer, and has ALOT of pike in there, as well as silverfish. Until a fishing session today, i never had proof of there being carp in there. But today i saw them...for myself. The thing is, i don't think they've ever been caught before, and not many people know they're in there. So....how can i catch them? or build it up to catching them if you know what i mean. What do you think?
  2. thanks mate yes i did get some photos however i dont know how to put them on here otherwise i would show you
  3. hi all, although i have not been on here for a long time, i thought id share my recent fishing trip with you all seeing as it was quite an achievement for me. ive just come back from norfolk after being there for a week and staying at a place which has a nice carp lake right outside the apartments. i fished all week, with the boilie and alarm approach and throughout the week had quite a few carp from about 10lb to 20lb with a 20lb common being the biggest (and subsequently my first 20 from that water) which i was very chuffed with. but what really got me buzzing was a couple of fish that weren't carp, but roach...and very big roach at that. i had two in a row, and ive never seen such big roach and i never will again as long as i live probably. for they were both 3lb'ers. the first was a 3 1/2 lb'er and the second slightly smaller at 3 1/4. although i cant gain much credit for the captures as they weren't caught on conventional roach tactics, i still am very pleased i caught them.
  4. i had a a great start to the season! i managed to get out for a couple of hours after my exams, and i started off by catching my biggest chub of 5lb 8oz!!! well chuffed with that
  5. never been there but heard its got some very big carp in
  6. on the subject of bait droppers, what is the furthest recommended distance for throwing one out?
  7. all my barbel fishing is done with a 1.25lb tc rod, which apparently is the traditional tc for a barbel rod and it can handle lines of up to 10lb, which is good enough for me. except in flood, when i will my 2lb tc carp rod
  8. well i live in the south east, and the river thames in my local area is very low and clear at the moment
  9. it is nearly spring but a couple of months can seem like a lifetime when you're waiting for it to come
  10. i havent had much experience of winter carp fishing, but that should work. and make sure the pellets are low oil ones
  11. or it could be the same as when people use boilies for catfish. maybe the pike like the fishy smell of certain flavoured boilies, but they cant see what they are eating, because it may be night time, or murky water
  12. or you could carry on float fishing and eventually you should get some luck, you've already caught one fish on it in there
  13. ive spoken to carpers on my local carp water who say they have had their spods attacked by monsters of the deep they never knew were in there!
  14. i think you just take out the wick from the middle and thread your line through it
  15. there are many carp anglers that may disagree with that. alot of people have alot of faith in what rigs they use in the different conditions
  16. would you still have to use snap tackle though?
  17. you could try float fishing a small dead or live bait such as a small bleak or minnow or rudd. or any small silver fish for that matter!
  18. apparently my great grandad used to use barbeque chicken in the 'olden days' to catch himself some very nice pike. he was also known to stick just about anything on his hook, including mars bars rolled into balls!!
  19. i think there's more than one brand of it. one's called sticky mag and the other one's called maggot fix i think
  20. a carp is a carp, no matter where it's from...
  21. here here well said. i dont think ill even bother putting my biggest carp on here because most people would have beaten it...... it's 21lb 8oz
  22. well seing as most people here are guessing a weight of 4 to 5lbs, then it would seem that i was wrong. i havent caught that many 4 to 5lb chub anyway, and its been a while since i have
