  1. Found a couple of pics on the net after Budgie had been noodling
  2. Well if I have not got one of the twelve but I do have one of the eighteen with drag and check. Cracking reels and it is a pity that Cliff Adcock didn't make more 4" as to me they are a much nicer reel than the 41/2" but not at that price. Having said that the Lythe is due at the end of the month. Now over three years since it was ordered.
  3. That's fantastic Ian. Just think if you manage to get one on each pin you will be have to buy another freezer
  4. Hi John, as well as photobucket I use either one of two cameras set at the lowest resolution which produces pictures of around 150 kb which means that I can upload a couple direct onto Anglers net which has a limit of 300 kb unless you are a contributor where you get a bigger allowance. Mine is currently 500kb. You can also reduce the size of the image by scaling down/cropping and a good free programme to do this is Gimp see link below. http://uberdownloads.net/apps/free-downloa...ds}&pk=7042 It is not too difficult to use and enables you to upload more pictures. There is a good tutorial for Gimp and it is fun playing about.
  5. Just had the letter through myself but the thought of anything up the butt turns it into something akin to a length of re inforced anchor tube.
  6. Yep, there is a lot of truth in the saying "many a good tune is played on an old fiddle"
  7. I do not want to be contentious, but on this and many other forums for example fishing magic, there have been numerous excellent posts covering a vast range of how, why, when and where aspects of fishing. The problem is that it requires searching for but unfortunately and particularly for those with limited experience both in terms of fishing and knowledge of computers, putting in the right search query with the right phrasing can be daunting. Would it not be a benefit if an A-Z database could be established with easy click on links to any particular subject matter. This I am sure would be a great benefit to everyone whether experienced or not and would also give a good insight into the countless variables that exist. There isn't one right way otherwise there would be the master book instead of the numerous publications that have been generated since Isaac and the compleat angler. Angling can be as simple or as complicated as you want to make it however if you can obtain a good understanding of the basics then you will have a good solid base to work from and be able to experiment knowing what it is that you are trying to achieve. I can appreciate the comments made regarding input but if there were such a thing as a reference index I am sure it would go a long way to help.
  8. Yes I was trotting all the time. Starlights!!!! bloody hell Ian, the quiver rod is fitted with two expensive beta lights. No I always keep my hand on the rod, I have seen too many dissapear from being left in the rests. When I first started today it was nice and still but when a bit of wind got up the chill factor was very noticeable. I think I have tried every combination of gloves going. I have a couple of pairs of Gore wind stoppers so I am going to modify a pair and see if they are any better as I do like my hands to fairly free and most so called fishing gloves are too stiff. I had a pair of neoprene ones with me today but cannot get on with them.
  9. It is a pity that the original 3500 tritons have such a poor line lay which limits distance as to me the clutch is far superior to my 5000 and 6000 GTEs which are also very good for a rear clutch reel.. The build quality on the originals in my opinion has not been surpassed plus they are lighter and more compact than the 5000GTEs. A few of my mates who have the Epix Pros and Maver Tica Sporteras rate the reels very highly.
  10. Well, just got back after a a few hours and one thing for certain is that today was totally different than yesyerday. Found a nice little swim on a double bend with a nice deep[ eddy on the inside bank and decided to fish it just off the main flow. Managed half a dozen or so small Roach on maggot whilst feeding an undercut on the far bank with the intention of fishing into dark for a Chub but at around half past three my fingers were numb and starting to hurt so I called it a day. It was the first time that I used the 4" Stanton that I managed to aquire earlier in the year and it is a joy to use being much more comfortable to the hand than the 41/2". I can see why Tigger likes his. It was a shame having to leave as the river itself looked spot on with a good flow and a nice colour. The Aigle wellies worked well as did the sleepskin thermals. Need to sort something different out for the hands though.
  11. You are certainly right there John. The river can fish exceptionally well when it is fining down after rain but being so flat the water soon runs off and back to virtually no flow. The colour today was spot on but now it is snowing though having said that I caught my biggest Roach in a snow storm in a little river not dissimilar to the Gipping. All set up now ready to go with a float rod and quiver rod. Only job to do is to make some paste. There are a few spots where the pole could be the edge and I really should give it a go.
  12. Most of the river is controlled by G.A.P.S, with G.V.A.C and Munton & Fisons having a few small sretches but there are also some free fishing stretches. When I first moved to Suffolk, I commuted from the midlands for over 12 months so I had a lot of free time much of which was spent walking the Gipping and of course other interesting venues in the Suffolk/Essex area. In the past the river was navigable from Ipswich to Stowmarket and although it changed considerably since those times it is a very interesting little river. During the years I have been fishing the river it has thrown up a whole range of species that include Carp, Bream, Tench, Perch, Roach, Dace, Chub, Gudgeon, Rudd, Eels, Pike and Minnows plus a Terrapin. There are times when you could be static and bag up but I much prefer to be on the move.
  13. Hi John and yes it is the Gipping. I fish the river from Stowmarket right down to Ipswich and there are some lovely swims if you are prepared to do a bit of walking and research. At different times of the year and in particular stretches away from the more popular areas it can hold some very good fish. At this time of the year right through to March when the river is right there are some cracking Roach and Chub to be had if you know where to go. I often get my wife to drop me off at some point then walk the river and she picks me up later at some pre arranged point. In my opinion a very under rated river but you do need to be mobile to get the best from it.
  14. Just had a quick walk on the local little river and apart from the cold it looks in good nick unlike the little lake at the side of the river, so bought some maggots for a go tomorrow. Certainly beats staying at home and it's too nippy to mess about in the work shop.
  15. Came across this article by Paul Selman recently and thought it would be interesting to some of the forum members. As_it_really_was.doc.doc
  16. Thought I would just put a picture up which was taken around the end of September which always makes me feel good every time I look at it and wish I was there. It is a stunningly beautifull place with a great group of people and then of course there are the fish.
  17. Talking about Pike, a long standing fishing friend recently sent me a picture of a 40lb Pike which had been found dead then set up as shown below.
  18. Try a optonic with a 12 vane paddle. It will keep you awake all night On thequestion of sensitivity I think that if you are fishing at distance and especially with mono the line can stretch more than you may think before a positive indication is registered. I srarted with the 12 vane paddles at you know where and immediately replaced them with 8 vane which were nearly as bad. Unfortunately I had no 4 van with me or they woukd have gone in. I have not tried 6 vane ones as yet but will give them a try when I have made some. Obviously it would be far more convenient if the sensitivity could be electronically controlled.
  19. When you look at the width of the slot in the roller on the GF alarms it is very narrow and tapered and it may be that thicker lines could cause a bit of a problem although I have used Fireline up to 30lb without any issues. With the Optonic rollers, they are wide so thicknes of line should not present any issues. My own thoughts are that the GF alarms would greatly benefit from a re design of roller as in terms of value and reliability, I don't think you can beat them
  20. Thanks for that Jonh. I totally agree with the comments re total reliability and except for the problem associated with angled rods that is exactly what the GFs have given me and I have fished through some horrendous storms in France which is where my original Delkims failed miserably. The other big advantage of the GFs is that you can turn the sound right down which you cannot do with the Optonic XLs although the they have also been bomb proof apart from the battery connectors. With leads and a sounder box they work superbly but with the atts reciever it is either a beep or a single toner.
  21. Quick question John. I have the Gardner attx receiver v2 and dongles. Do the atts alarms give a true indication of beeps on the receiver as it is not the case with donkles in my alarms.
