  1. In the AT this week, there's a bit more about it. There were a couple of Pike matches recently in Ireland, were barrels were used, and the pike all died. So how can the organisers still be thinking of using them knowing that?
  2. I was about to buy a Windcheeta smock, but the tackle dealer very truthfully said it wasn't up to much, as others had complained about the stitching.
  3. 28 marshalls 14 boats Two pike tubes per boats Walkie-talkie for every boat How much was all this going to cost the organisers? NOTHING!!! The PAC offered to supply all this at their own expense. The organisers must have their heads rammed where the sun doesn't shine!!!
  4. Sundridge are the dogs hanging bits, but the TFG Sharkskin stuff is freakin' awesome, and it's on offer at fishtec.
  5. Why would they do that? Think it's about time everyone started getting their emails in.
  6. It's worse than I feared. I've just been talking to a guy who's in the PAC and he told me that the fish are put in these barrels and taken to be weighed which could be anything up to three miles! You should read the thread on the Pike & Predators website - http://www.totalcoarsefishing.com/cgi-bin/...3541095/120#120 what we really need now is for all concerned pike anglers to register their disgust at the use of the barrells. To that end can i suggest that everyone email their displeasure to the following addresses mark@polefloats.com - Mark Lichtenburg organiser dcalangling@dcalni.gov.uk - department of Culture Arts and leisure keith.collen@fermanagh.gov.uk - Organiser for Fermanagh District council info@nitb.com - NI Tourist board. It is important that these emails are kept polite and are not abusive in any way and just focus upon the fact that you will not be visiting NI or the Fermanagh area to fish whilst these barrels are still in use that you think the retention of pike in such a manner is uneccessary and unwise for the conservation of pike stocks. thanks in advance for your support
  7. Have you seen this? http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/News/pike_barrels.html Are they seriously going to be putting a pike in one of those barrels?
  8. Double handle is much smoother, as it resists wobble. As for the drag, yes a front drag is better in big game situations, but believe me, you'll never find the difference in freshwater. The drags on teh new Shimanos have much better start up inertia, which means you're less likely to be broken off when a fish runs, and the Fighting Drag?....I couldn't be without it now.
  9. Shimano Stradic or Twin Power. Both fit your rod, and balance perfectly too.
  10. I've tried them, but find them next to useless, as most types/thicknesses of weed will snag on them. Try weedless singles, which are altogether much easier to work with. Either a weedguard, or as I prefer, a cranked hook, with a soft plastic worm Texas rigged onto it.
  11. Try something heavier like a big weedless spoon, which will give off alot of flash, which can be seen through the weed, and vibration. Spinnerbaits are a much under used tool as well.
  12. If it was shallow water, and there were lots of fish in the area, they would have jumped to get clear. I've seen it in the few times I fished really shallow, and there is a huge head of fish. I've had them on the fly as well, and anyone that says they don't fight should try one on a fly rod. They do fight much harder is shallow water I find, seems they really only have one direction to travel.
  13. Try Shimano Technium, you'll never use anything else after it. I know hundreds of anglers that had changed over to it and say the same.
  14. Any of the Fox rods are good, but try this - www.dlst.co.uk. Hand built on British Harrison blanks, and for a custom rod, almost giving it away. Might add that he is a top bloke, and he will customise it to your requirements. Rods to last!!!
  15. http://www.fishtec.co.uk/ProductsInCounter...=23&cat=579 I'm "stumped" Just what every angler needs!!!
  16. You may find that some guarantees aren't worth the paper they are written on, besides, are you going to let that small point, possibly spoil your fishing? There are many good rods on the market. One thing I will warn you about though, is the reel seat size, as not all seats will take a centrepin foot. Go for a fast action style rod for the rivers, as it will pick up the line much quicker, but it must not be too fast, as this will only result in hook pulls. Go into a good shop and try them out, as it needs to balance with the reel also, as most rods are designed for use with (in this case heavier) fixed spool reels. Get this wrong, and it'll ruin the whole thing. Oh, and as you will be holding the rod at all times, pick one with a good comfortable handle. Have a look at some of the Shimano rods when you are at it, as some offer the benefit of being used at two lengths, 13' and 15', a real boon on rivers.
  17. If you try Shimano Technium line, you will simply never use any other line for that type of fishing. It is the best there is - period!!! It has half the stretch of normal mono, and the knot strength is unbelieveable. There is also a "camo" version should you require it.
  18. Figured it wouldn't be long, as Pace Megabait, who "made" them originally, have gone out of business. It is a shame if they aren't to be made, they are outstanding lures!!!!!!!!!
  19. Have always had decent rods and reels, but alarms are something I know nothing about. I just want to make sure I buy the right thing first time.
  20. Fox Chubby Shads, all sizes - Roach, Green Mackerel, and Redhead patterns favoured. Fished anyway you want, but vertically jigged is the most fun. They are simple, cheap, they last, and have saved me from so many blanks it's unreal. I have all colours in all sizes, and all have caught me fish.
  21. I am in need of a good bite alarm, mostly for Tench, Bream, Perch and Eel fishing. The way I see it, I have two choices, Fox or Delkim. Now I know everyone loves Delkims, but I want to know if they will be suitable for me. The Delkims, I'm told are extremely sensitive, and they go off at the slightest movement, but do I want to listen to bleeps and wailing sirens all the time? I also understand they are the only option for fishing slack lines(?) Will I need to fish slack lines much? Are there situations where the vibration function is a hindrance? The Fox alarms work on Roller wheels, and I'd like to know what the pros and cons of this system are. The Alarms I have been looking at so far, are the Delkim Plus, and the Fox Eos-X. As for bite indication, well I'm lost. The amount of indicators you can get seems insane. Basically what is the best system for the species mentioned? I've been told, light bobbins with Solar line clips, but do I want illuminated or not? Will the illuminated option add weight, and therefore resistance to the rig?
  22. I have hooks along the beams in my attic, which is a "cut" roof, with no joists, and the rods are placed on them horizontally. I always give my rod a good wipe down after it's been used, as I would be worried about ring damage from damp.
  23. Whip on a small piece of silicon to the tip and insert starlight.
