  1. After seeing the free disgorgers in Angers Mail this week i decided to buy it (just for the disgorgers honest!, i'm always losing them) I even decied to give it a read! Inside there was a small article on Nige's misdemeanor, it states that he has been dropped as a columnist for them. I wonder if Greys will now follow suit? I'm not sure what to think on this. He's obviously a great angler, but this boat thing and the smuggling incident last time have seriously cast doubt on his credibility imo. Paul.
  2. Didn't the Scottish Carp Group put lots of stockies in Danskine that went belly up and died? Just curious as to wheather the original wildies remain now or died off at the same time.
  3. I've fished there with the obligatory telescopic holiday fishing outfit that i always end up buying when away anywhere. As for fishing, well most of the fish i caught were small multi-coloured sea fish, most of which wouldn't look out of place in my tropical fish tank. I fished near the shore with tiny pieces of bread on the surface. Stalking each fish, great fun One thing though, take your own hooks as i've found it's hard to get them in a small enough size. Paul.
  4. Anything up to 10lbs i call a jack, over that it becomes a pike Well in my mind anyway
  5. Just in case anyone wants to read the new law on this, have a look at : http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/business...67s2-introd.pdf The relevant section about number of rods and fixed lines is in Part 3 section 21. The new legislation introduced allows coarse anglers to use up to 4 rods (at the discretion of the water) and they must be attended. If an angler is fishing for salmonids from the shore however, the angler can only use 1 rod and must be holding it. Lots of other interesting stuff in there, including the banning of pike gags and certain types of keepnet. Paul.
  6. What i don't understand is why knives like this or this are allowed to be sold through ebay for peanuts without any real checks being done. No wonder it's easy for kid to get hold of seriously dangerous weapons like these. Paul.
  7. I go to some local auctions and regularly pick up bulk lots of rods described as broken/damaged. I got another lot on monday with some interesting stuff in it, namely a couple of spliced rods. Now i've never come across a rod that isn't spigoted or overfit jointed, so i have absolutely no idea how these rods were fitted together. One of the spliced rods looks like it's home made, the other is a Sharpes of Aberdeen split cane fly rod which is really quite nice and in good condition. It looks like the auctioneer had maybe never seen a spliced rod either, and assumed it was broken. This is the spliced end. The rest if the rods are old glass/hollow glass sea rods mostly except a couple of old greenhart rods in terrible condition. Plus an old bamboo landing net/gaff handle (picture above) So can anyone tell me more about spliced rods? I asked google, but it just gave me hundreds of links for more modern rods with spliced tips.. Thanks Paul.
  8. I recognise that place I've fished Dunmore a couple of times myself, it's a really nice place to fish. The gaps in the weeds really are small and the lillies are pretty extensive with some meaty looking root systems. I fished worm and corn on a waggler rig. To be honest i wasn't really targeting the carp, more the perch on worm, but i had great fun days each time i fished with bags and bags of perch to about a pound. I never fancied the idea of hooking into a decent carp with little room to manouver them out of the weeds. I would have liked to hook a tench or two though, but on my visits they managed to elude me Paul.
  9. Can't wait to see a realtree version Oh.. and on a side note. Elton, i'm getting anti phishing warnings on that link again... Paul.
  10. I had a quick look in at the offers Aldi had today. Most of it wasn't really what i was looking for or would buy. The polaroids looked ok but the small bag/carryall looked great, so i bought one Great size for roving or even a lure bag. Very similar to the fox ones with the solid base that can be zipped off for storing items in. Good too for keeping the contents dry. The only difference? Fox one would be 30+ quid, this was £6.99 The tackle was flying out the shop so i doubt they'll have much left after the weekend as usual. Paul.
  11. I get a strange anti-phishing warning when i click on that link, could just be me though (just re-installed windows and IE7...) It doesn't do it on any other page from AN, just this one. Paul.
  12. Doh! Your link seems to work better than mine, and you found them cheaper Paul.
  13. I use a set of Reuben Heaton Flyweight Mk2's. 40lbs in 1 oz increments, quite compact, and seem to take the knocks well. They're also quite cheap and you can usually get a set for under £25 delivered. I've had mine tested once (after a pb pike) and they were spot on. Paul. Oh and an Ebay linky to someone selling them. (Feel free to change it to an AN friendly link )
  14. Hehe, i signed up for Discovery's viewer research programme a few months ago. Since then every time they ask what would you prefer to see, fishing or more Tommy Walsh.. hmmm what do you think i put Oh and i have moaned at them for the lack of new fishing related programming on Discovery, but i wouldn't hold your breath on that one
  15. It's legit, it came through the "my ebay" message system (plus another reminding me to pay me fees ). It's just a voucher code to enter into paypal when you next buy something, so it's spent allready Paul.
  16. Ebay must be trying to sweeten up buyers to get them to come back, they just sent me an email giving me a free tenner(Paypal) to spend on anything i like on ebay. All those complain emails i sent to them seem to have worked Paul.
  17. This is a really interesting question that i've been asking myself recently. I fish a variety of waters, but many of them are deep large lochs. The thing i've noticed with my results in rainy/stormy (all the time then ) is that if the loch i'm fishing is deep and clear then generally deadbaits work great no matter what the weather is doing. In fact i've fished places which have really turned on in horrific weather and had some fantastic days fishing. However if the loch i'm fishing is one of the more typical lowland waters where they are shallower and prone to colouring up more (through peat staining mostly, some turn the colour of tea) then the results are usually terrible for me in rainy/stormy conditions. In fact usually i pull off this type of venue until the weather pattern has settled and the conditions are more what people would consider good piking conditions (clear and cold) So maybe it's more to do with water clarlty/depth when the weather is evil? These are just what i've observed over the years. Of course i've had exceptions, but this is the consistant pattern for me. Paul.
  18. I seem to remember my old sony camera's memory stick had a write protect switch underneath it. Just double check it's set so that you can write, otherwise it's possible that the camera was only storing the pictures in it's internal memory buffer and never saving to the card. When you switch the camera off all would have been lost. Paul.
  19. Certainly in Scotland it was fish movent, and i'm pretty sure Ireland was the same. See : http://news.scotsman.com/ViewArticle.aspx?articleid=3336411 Or : http://pacnews.blogspot.com/2007/02/scotti...ban-latest.html Paul.
  20. I'd like to point out to you that livebaiting was banned in Scotland and Ireland, not on ethical grounds, but to prevent fish movement and the spread of disease. Paul.
  21. I have a copy of the cat hulled plans in german if you want them Elton? I have no way of hosting them, they're just sitting here on my PC. I was going to post them before, but wasn't sure of the legalty of making them available for the public (as they're not mine obviouslty ) Paul.
  22. Sorry Codger you misunderstand me (Probably my way with words ) What i'm trying to say is, that if your not happy that you might foul hook, damage, or even kill fish accidentally (however unlikely) whilst in pursuit of fish, then maybe angling isn't a good choice of sport. Is there any difference between setting out to do it deliberately and doing it accidentally? Either way fish end up with hooks in them (Hopefully in their mouths though) I hope i've explained it better, i'm not stating this as fact its just my opinion of course Just a question, does this debate often rage in the sea angling forum? Do they have qualms about using live sandeels to catch bass etc?
  23. This subjct always seems to rear it's head on forums every now and then, like the good old "ban keepnets" issue. I have one question for the original poster, have you ever foul hooked a fish? Did you feel so guilty about having hooked the said fish in the fin or back? If the answer is yes, maybe you should, as has been said before sell you rods. This sport might not be for you. To me there is absolutely no difference between sticking hooks in a fishes mouth or it's back when livebaiting. And i have no qualms about doing so when i want to live bait. Also, to me, there is no moral difference between livebaiting and knocking a roach on the head to use as a deadbait later, either way the fish is going to end up dead. Paul.
